Wildcats Parents vs. Parents Game
Saturday was the last home practice of the year, and also our "Parents vs. Players Game". Despite being on a 25 game losing streak, the Parents came out on the field with a positive attitude and shocked the world with a classy goal mid-way through the first half to take the lead.
However, things didn't take long to revert to form, as the Players tallied 3 times before the end of the half on goals by Mike Antonoff, Joe Andreani and Kevin Zeit assisted by Joey Bongiorno and Lauren Hyman. After some needed rest, the Parents seemed re-energized early in the second half, as they had several good chances to score, but they were turned back by the aggressive defense of Billy Russo and Dylan Dowdell. Unable to get their offense into gear the Parent's defense started to crumble against the Players
onslaught; first came Matt Saraiva with a blistering 20 yard goal and then
Joe Andreani with his second goal of the game to end the scoring. Final
Score Players-5, Parents-1.
Well the losing streak lives on, but in all fairness the Parents were at at a disadvantage this time around as they were missing the services of their
leader & NHP TOPSoccer Director, Rich Bletsch who is home recuperating from a broken ankle. (Rumor has it Rich was hurt while trying to get in shape for this game.) Anyway, everyone expresses get well wishes, but the Players contend that it wouldn't have made any difference if Rich had been on the field, and they're probably right!! The next 2 weeks the NHP TOPSoccer Team takes it on the road to tournaments
in Plainview & Smithtown against real competition!

Cougars game 6/1/02
The Cougars saved the best for last. Without John, Andy and Nima, the Cougars played rival Syosset in one of their best performances. Syosset, needing a victory for a share of first place with the Cougars, came out strong and took a 1 goal lead in the first half. The boys never gave up and kept the pressure on throughout the second half. Josh tied the score on a looping shot. The scored remained tied until the last play of the game. Jason placed a perfect corner in front of the goal mouth and Robbie skied above the pack to place home a beautiful header for the winner. Robert was brilliant in goal preserving our victory. I'd like to thank my assistant coaches Rob and Dave for their help and also the parents for their support throughout the season. I'd also like to thank our trainer Eric, for teaching the boys soccer skills, sportsmanship and discipline. I am very proud of this team for their effort and the continued improvements they have made. Coach John
Soccer Cats Win 2nd Place in Massapequa Memorial Day Tournament
Congratulations to all the GU10 Soccer Cats on a terrific tournament finish in Massapequa! We had stout-hearted goalkeeping by Christen Riekert and Danielle Restivo, while Hannah Edwards, Jaclyn Tripptree, and Maura Dillon provided strong support in defensive and midfield positions. Goals were scored by Jennifer Taglich (2), Melissa Nohilly (2), Mary Insinga (1), Laura Laucella (1), Clare Adams (1), Ashley Minda (1), Natalie Kelapire (1), and Alexis Davis (1). We played terrific teams from Hewlett/Lawrence, Brooklyn, New Jersey, and Syosset, and the Soccer Cats proved they are a very resilient and determined team. Thanks from coach Ted Adams to assistant coaches Danny Taglich and Richie Edwards for all your efforts.
Speedycats
June 1
Speedycats 4 - Garden City Shooting Stars 3
June 2
Speedycats 8 - Albertson Ambush 1
The Speedycats concluded their season with two very impressive wins. In the first game against Garden City the Cats came from behind for the win. Alicia DeMarco started things off with a goal followed by Lauren Marra with two goals and Marie LaMaida with the game winner. The second game the Speedycats saved their best for last. Alicia DeMarco again started things off with an early goal, followed by a goal by Cassie Green, a goal by Kim Grammas, two goals by Marylu Donovan, a goal by Janelle Reif and Colleen Holahan putting the icing on the Cannolli cake (thanks to the Montoni's) with two goals. The midfielders were impressive all season long, the aggressive play of Diane McCormack Jessica Galente, Nicole Thomas and Samantha Selvaggio were fun to watch. The defense of Denise Ingram, Marie LaMaida, Kim Grammas and Alicia Ezat were outstanding. The goaltending of Janelle Reif and Joanne Montoni all season long were a tough combination to beat. The Speedycats had a tremendous season with a 6-1-2 finish and gave us parents some great soccer, a lot of fun and many memorable moments. To coaches, Vinnie, Ed and Rich thank you. Great season Girls!!
Lady Panthers 3
Massapequa 1
The Lady Panthers got back on the winning track with a convincing win. Kelcey Zacarese had 2 goals, first putting in a rebound and then Kathy Gualotuna sent in a nice ball which she finished for her second. Tanya Shimon iced the game in the second half finding the net off a corner kick. Jackie Masci and Jenna Feibus had outstanding games helping out both on defense and midfield. Dominique DeFelice, Jessica Egre and Alison Grammas started many offensive charges with long clearing kicks and aggressive defensive play. Annmarie McHale and Stacey Wood did some good work up front and Brianna Coker had her usual excellent game in goal. Emily Domb put the pressure on the left side and got off several good shots. Olivia Peros played sparingly due to injury but made a big impact and inspired her teammates with her determination. Nice job, ladies. Let's end the season on a high note next Sunday.
