Caruso Hair Styling Shop Yankees

The Cellini Lodge Braves had their game opener today against the Caruso Hair Styling Shop Yankees and what a game it was! Vinny Labruna had a big day with three hits and an unassisted double play! Nice going Vinny! Vinny was backed-up by great hitting from John L., Brian R. and Matt D. And let's not forget the great fielding by Brendan S., Paul L., James K., Stephen K., Anthony P., and Liam Q.. If this game is any indication of the Braves' season, it should be great!

April 8

T.F. OâBrien Cardinals 3 vs.

Nuzzi Fuel Twins 7

The T.F.OâBrien Cardinals opened their season with a 7 to 3 loss to the Nuzzi Fuel Twins.

On the mound for the Cardinals were Louis Simione, who made his pitching debut, while striking out 4, Robert Young, 2 innings and David Luchino, 1 inning. Louis had a pretty good day at the plate as well, with 1 double and all 3 RBIâs. Defensive stars for the Cardinals were, Christian Theodoropoulos, Johnny Mahon, Erik Schmid, Ace Goldstein, Andrew Goldstein, Eric Weinstein, Mike Ali. Nick Tornatore and Bradley Reider, played catcher for the first time in a game and were excellent behind the plate. Hats off to Nicky Clifford of the Nuzzi Fuel Twins for an excellent game both at the plate and on the mound. Go Cardinals!

April 10

City Line Florist Rockies vs.

LaVera Pizza Diamondbacks

The opening day game was well played by both teams. In a close game, the Diamondbacks came back to win the game in the last inning. Chris Kelly and Mike Ibrahim pitched very well for the Rockies. The hitting stars for the Rockies were David Leibell, Jonathon Livers, and Brian Voskerijian. Both teams played an excellent game.

NHP Elks Club Indians vs.

City Line Florist Rockies

This was a close game that had many lead changes. The game ended in a 15-15 tie. David Leibell, JD Delnevo, Chris Kelly, Patrick Nicolello, and Matt Magenheim provided the offense. Good defense by Brian, Mike, Anthony, Robbie, Matt F., and Sandy. Both teams played a great game.

April 9

Pace Pharmacy Blue Jays 11 vs.

Dr. Oronato Pirates 8

What a way to open the Merillon Spring Baseball season. This was a well played game by both teams. The Pace Pharmacy Blue Jays just edged out the hard hitting Dr. Oronato Pirates in a game that came down to the last inning. Michael Pucci and Neil Bisciello both pitched flawlessly for the Jays. Jake Zeller was outstanding behind the plate keeping the Pirate runners in check. Key defensive plays were turned in by Robert Carroll, Tom Fasano, Justin Weiss, Jordan Buff and Colin McPhilips. Tight defense sparked the Jays bats with timely hitting by Pat Rappa, Joe Weiss and Philip Ring. The big blows at the plate came off the bat of Anthony Zammit who crushed a grand slam to deep right center and another 2 run blast in the last inning to help seal a come from behind victory for the Blue Jays

April 11

Baxterâs Sport Shop Reds 3 vs.

Hair Debonnair Orioles 2

On Thursday the Reds made an amazing late inning comeback to beat the Orioles 3-2. Thanks to a homerun by A. Nicolelis and other offensive power given by J. Stein and a game-winning RBI for A. Prisco. Z. West had to leave the mound due to an injury. Great pitching by K. Gottleib and E. Doreste was backed-up by strong defense, lead by N. Tadero, S. Mangin & T. DeLuca. Great effort was given by J. Mehr, J. Gomez and M. Bartolni. Great job Reds!

NHP Funeral Home Astros 7 vs.

H. Edward Devil Rays 6

Terrific opening day for the NHP Funeral Home Astros in a thrilling 7-6 victory over the Devil Rays. Ryan Puglia (2 hits, 2 runs, 3 rbi), Robbie Ferlazzo (2 runs, 3 rbi), Danny Puglia (HR, rbi), and Frankie Tong (rbi) led the offense. Brett Spielberg (BB, SB), Richie Tarantola (BB, 2 SB, run), Matt Haray (run, SB) also contributed. The defense was led by Jon Paul DiMarco, Robert Butler, Tommy Graziano, Aneesh Sahni, and Chris Ambrosio. Pitchers Robbie Ferlazzo and Ryan Puglia were terrific. Great game Astros!

NHP Funeral Home Astros 19 vs.

Pace Pharmacy Blue Jays 2

Another great game by all the Astros in a convincing 19-2 victory over a tough Blue Jays team. The offense was led by Jon Paul DiMarco (6 rbi, 4 hits, 2 runs), Danny Puglia (3 rbi, 2 hits, 4 runs), Ryan Puglia (3 rbi, 2 hits, 3 runs), Tommy Graziano (3 hits, 3 runs, rbi), Robbie Ferlazzo (2 hits, 2 runs, rbi), Frankie Tong (3 hits, rbi, run), Aneesh Sahni (triple, 2 runs), Robert Butler (hit, rbi), Richie Tarantola (hit, 2 runs, rbi). Outstanding defense by Brett Spielberg, Matt Haray, and Chris Ambrosio. Pitchers Ryan Puglia and Robbie Ferlazzo completely shut down the tough Blue Jays offense. Solid game all around by the Astros!!

NHP Funeral Home Astros 19 vs.

Pace Pharmacy Blue Jays 2

It was a tough loss for the Pace Pharmacy Blue Jays. They fell to the slugging NHP Funeral Home Astros in a well played game by both teams. Robert Carroll, Jordan Buff and Neil Bisciello all had a big day at the plate. Tom Fasano had the big hit for the Jays ripping a shot to right center to knock in 2 runs. Pat Rappa made his pitching debut and did a fine job, as did Michael Pucci. The Jays also had big defensive plays turned in by Joe and Justin Weiss, Colin McPhilips, Anthony Zammit and Philip Ring. Good job Jays!

Delizia Restaurant Tigers 5 vs.

Dr. Joseph Onorato Pirates 4

In an exciting first game of the season the Delizia Restaurant Tigers won a close game against Dr. Joseph Onorato Pirates. In their final at bat the Tigers scored five runs. The key hit was a base-clearing triple by Scott Savell with two outs. Other Tigers with hits in the game were Andrew Levine, Peter Pecora, and Dylan Reid. Fayaz Ahmad had the Tigers first RIB of the game. Solid defensive play by Michael Marsigliano, Derek Clifford, Tony Citriniti, Jason Westfal and Michael Levine. Fine pitching performances by Andrew Levine and Christian Curran who got the win! Great game Pirates and Tigers!

April 7

Lazio Pizza Angels 10 vs.

Williston Park Team #2 1

The Lazio Pizza Angels opened the Merillon Little League season with a 10 - 1 win over Williston Park. Lazio Pizza was led by the power hitting of Jonathan Rivera, Ed Daly, DJ Gerowski and John Ferlazzo who all homered. Brian Spinner, Paul Cunningham and Steve Cialone all chipped in with timely hits. DJ Gerowski, Sean Rogers, Paul Cunningham and Steve Cialone shut down Williston Park with strong pitching. Robbie Ferlazzo was called up from the Minors and provided an offensive spark to start the 3rd inning Lazio Pizza rally, while Danny Graham made an early return from spring break and played flawless defense.

April 9, 2002

NHP Wireless Mariners 5 vs.

Williston Park Team #4 1

NHP Wireless Mariners opened their season with a comeback victory against a tough WP team. The Mariners put together 4 hits and 2 walks in the bottom of the 5th to score all their runs for the 5-1 victory. M. Uy got it started with an infield single, C. Murphy followed with a double and Z. Ricchutti drove home the tying run on a fielder's choice. P. Ambrosio (2rbis) had the game-winning hit and M Morana (2rbis) added the insurance runs. E Wendt pitched a solid 4innâs and E. Loosen threw out 2 of 3 attempted steals in a solid catching performance.

April 11

Fundamental Baseball Camp Red Sox 9

Williston Park Team #3 0

The Fundamental Baseball Camp Red Sox got off to a great start for the spring season opener with a 9 - 0 win over Williston Park Team # 2. A great game was pitched by Nick Lapinski giving up only 2 hits and a walk with 12 k's in a 6 inning complete game. Terrific game calling behind the plate by Tony Peveraro and Dan Lackner keeping the Williston park batters off balance. The F.B.C. Red Sox offense was led by Vishal Patel going 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Patience at the plate by Matt Simms, John Ganz, James Clark, and Mike Zissou help contribute to the Red Sox win. Flawless defense by Andrew Montoni and Jonathon Defelice kept the WP runners at bay helping Nick to a complete game.

April 13

NHP Wireless Mariners 14 vs.

Fundamental Baseball Red Sox 4

NHP Wireless Mariners won their 2nd game of the season. They opened the scoring with 3 runs in the 1st on 3 straight hits by E.Loosen, C.Ambrosio and M.Uy. They added 8 more runs in the 2nd capped off by C.Murphy bases clearing HR, P.Ambrosio pitched 3 solid inns and E.Wendt, M.Morana, S.Carton, N.Cusumano each added a hit.

Fundamental Baseball Camp Red Sox 4

NHP Wireless Mariners 14

The Fundamental Baseball Camp Red Sox dropped this game to a tough NHP Wireless Mariners team. Good pitching by Matt Simms and an all around effort by the entire F.B.C. Red Sox team could not contain the Mariners in a 14 -4 loss. Good try boys nothing to be ashamed about.

April 14

Lazio Pizza Angels 7 vs.

CDM Tire Expos 4

The Lazio Pizza Angels scored four runs in the last inning for an exciting come from behind 7 -4 win in Merillon Boys majors baseball action April 14. Lazio Pizza held a 3 -1 going into the fifth inning, but fell behind 4 -3. Five straight hits from Steve Cialone, Jonathan Rivera, DJ Gerowski, Sean Rogers and Leo Varghese erased the one run deficit and led to the victory. Paul Cunningham and Dan Graham each had hits to help Lazio Pizza build an early lead. Strong defensive play by Rob Maer, Brain Spinner and Ed Daly help preserve the win, and run Lazio Pizza's record to 2 and 0.

Merillon Little League to Hold April 27 Opening Parade

On April 27 Merillon Athletic Association will hold its annual "Opening Day Parade." This year Merillon will celebrate the 51st year of incorporation as a little league. The parade will assemble at 9:30 a.m. and step-off at Manor Oaks School at approximately 10:00 AM and proceed directly to Merillon Park on Marcus Ave for the formal ceremonies.

This year Merillon will dedicate its 2002 season to all the people who lost their lives as a result of the tragic events of September 11th. There will be a dedication plaque placed at the Merillon AA field house in their honor.
