Waldbaum Cups NHP Cougars - vs - Bohemia Bullets
NHP Cougars 3
Bohemia Bullets 2 (Penalty Kick)
The Cougars travelled to Bohemia and played an inspired game.
After falling behind early, the Cougars mounted a strong attack, finally breaking through. Andy Kalt rocketed home a rebound to knot the score. The Cougars dominated most of the game but were unable to score again. Nima in goal, made several outstanding saves in the first half. All the Cougars played well. The game ended tied at 1. Two 5 minute sudden death OT's did not produce a goal. It came down to penaly kicks. The Cougars drew first blood as John Weitzel rifled home a shot. The Bullets responded with a goal of their own. Conor Kerrane scored the second goal. Robert Butler, now playing goal was brilliant, turning aside shot after shot. With the PK's tied at 2, Robert powered home a shot that made it 3-2. He then calmly stopped the Bullets last PK and Cougars came away with a hard fought victory. Excellent first effort of the season boys.

NHP Magic Cats 3
The Magic Cats started out playing with indoor soccer in their heads. No score in the first half but they got their groove back in the second half. The magic came alive with teamwork being the key element. Our first goal played by Kelly S. to Katelyn C. into Shannon K., supported by Ally F. and put it in the back of the net. From our defensive center, Ali S. with the help of a Levittown foot, Nicole F. gained control and put number two in for the Magic. Levittown managed to get one passed our defensive wall which consisted of Ally N. and Nicole C. The icing on the cake came when Dolores Y. passed to Laura C. who got the ball through their defense and to Shannon K. for our third goal with about one minute left in the game. Our defense played flawlessly throughout the entire game. Megan F. was awesome in goal. Great job ... Go Magic! ......Missed ya Shannon F.
NHP Lady Lions 1
Elwood Doves 0
The Lady Lions came ready to play verse a tough opponent. Although the Lady lions kept enormous pressure on the Elwood defense they were only able to bury one in the back of the net. The lone goal was scored by a hungry Christine Cinelli in the second half, who received the rebound from the goalie who couldn't quite handle a shot from Alyssa Faller who launched one almost out of her reach. Jennifer LaMaida, Keriann Simon, Julianne Abel and Dayna Obidienzo helped keep the ball in the Elwood zone. The mids were led by Meagen Kennedy, Nicole Daly and Lauren Chiasera. The wall of defense was Brittany Schenke, Lisa Betty, Danielle Sawicki, Alyssa Fishman and Ariana DiCicco, which only allowed our goalie Sarah Mikhail to touch the ball but twice. Great job by all!

Stray Cats 5
West Babylon Nightmare 0
The Stray Cats issued a statement to the rest of the league by defeating division one opponent West Babylon Nightmare by a score of 5 to 0. The win moves the team to round two of the Waldbaum's Challenge and shows the Stray Cats are ready to defend last year's division one title. First half goals were registered by Jessie Busardo, Michele Galante and Alison Fliegel and the second half featured scores from Nicole Southern and Megan Stevens. The Stray Cats showed they will take advantage of opponents if they make mistakes as Megan and Ali's goals came off corner kicks. Keeper X'Ania Saldana registered the shutout making two big saves in the second half. Katie Mooney's fine passing and ability to be in every play was pivotal in today's match. Defensively Kathleen Flaherty and Lauren DeSimone gave the Nightmare nightmares, shutting down their offense. This was an overall good game by the entire team and a nice way to start the season.
Wildcats Top Cats Meet Mia Hamm's Former Coach
The New Hyde Park Wildcats Soccer team U10 Girls team the Top Cats were invited to Long Islands favorite soccer station WHPC 90.3FM at Nassau Community College on Sunday, Feb.4th. Their outstanding accomplishment of allowing only one goal in division play. Division Champs, and especially winning the LI Jr. Soccer League's Sportmanship Award afforded them the invitation to such a special event.
Waking up in the wee hours of the morning had no bearing on the excitement these girls felt. The girls were able to talk & ask questions to Anson Dorrance, Mia Hamm's former coach at the University of North Carolina, Ray Reid, men's coach at the University of Connecticut, and Christie Welsh, member of the US National team, Long Island native, and player on the Lady
Riders team. A great time was had by all. Top Cats included:
Jennifer Fox, Joanna Dombal, Caroline Smolenski, Meghan McCollough, Julianna Stalzer, Deanna Cannella, Dina Nicastro, Cara Rosario, Allison SHea, Michelle Vias, Brianna Coker, and Nicole Puma.
A special thank you to Tricia Rudd and to Larry Miller for their hospitality and friendliness.
