Michelle Schimel, town clerk of North Hempstead, clears her calendar of staff meetings, budget planning and sending memos for Feb. 14, Valentine's Day, to perform marriage ceremonies. Ceremonies for that day will be held in the town board room. Priority appointments will be given to town residents from noon until 5 p.m.

On this special day, couples will be feted with sweets, cookies and live music. Each bride will receive a special gift from Ms. Schimel.

The wedding ceremony for Town of North Hempstead residents is free. Please note that there is a 24-hour waiting period after issuance of the marriage license.
