Herricks High School was chosen to take part in a statewide assessment project under the direction of the New York State Education Department.
The intent of the project is to develop assessments derived from the NYS Learning Standards for Physical Education that could be adopted as part of the state-mandated school reporting system (school report card).
Field testing is being conducted throughout the state during this school year. Herricks was one of the few schools chosen statewide and the only school selected locally to take part in this project.
A professional film crew filmed classes on Nov. 7 and 8 involving the topics: step aerobics, ballroom dancing, ultimate frisbee and soccer.
Herricks was chosen because of its exemplary Physical Education Program, self-directed student population, dedicated staff and supportive administration. Both the film crew and State Ed representatives remarked at how embracing the Herricks Community was to the project.
