Ireland vs. England
Nice game by both teams. Ireland had a lot of hustle from Joey Carbone, Matt Gitto and Shawn Matthew. Defensive strength came from Mike Marini and Kyle Triptree. Midfield support from Joey Randazzo and John Triptree. Great goaltending by Dominick Kaczor.
Good playing by England. Offensive pressure from Nick Perrone, Alex Montoni, and Doug Shunk. Matt Perno and Nick Diaz played marvelous on midfield. Defense was strong with Troy Driscoll and Yovan Kumar.
Galaxy vs. Roughriders
Another great game for the Galaxy team! Goals scored by Pratik Shah, Alex Winarski and Andy Diaz. Tough defense played by Joseph Mauro, Anthony Faller and Evan Miller. Midfield support by Anthony Obidienzo and Benjamin Tran. Super job in net by Luke Miller. Well done boys!
Goals by Kevin T. with passes from Joey R. and Dean A. Great goaltending by Joey I. And Steven S. Strong midfield by Mike G.
Clash vs. Titans
Great game by all players. Anthony Musachia and Michael Esposito were awesome at the net. Adam Preist, Kevin Towey and Billy Hannigan were unstoppable offense players. Brian Mollin, Jordan Yee and Joseph D'Amico were at midfield position. Jake Sutterlin was playing his best at midfield. Great playing by the Titans. Alex Chadli and Daniel Lorandini scored the goals, both terrific corner kicks. The defense was tremendous with plays from John Conte, Stephen Gadze and Nicholas Simeoli. The goalkeeping was shared by Matt Maino and Michael Ring. Great hustle by Michael Riccoboni and Nick Viviano.
Brazil vs. USA
Brazil gave it all they had this game. The first half was spent mostly trying to protect their goal. Michael Fink and Matthew Davang gave their best at the goalie position in the first half. Luke Georges played a great second half goalie. Christopher Kariotis and Traven Tong pushed the offense while Edward Krische and Paul Reo was endlessly challenged on defense. Thank you for not giving up! USA does it again. Great play all around by all players. Teamwork shined with Daniel passing to Steven and Patrick. Johnny and Christian held off the opposing team with their strong bodies and quick feet. Kevin and Brendan hustled all around. John and Chris were keeping the pressure forward. Paul had several amazing dribbles down the field, Keep it up guys.
Jamaica vs. Italy
Jamaica tried hard against tough competition. Goal scored by Joey. A lot of hard work by Mark, Sage, Steven, Gabriel and Thomas. Excellent goaltending by Erik.
Everyone played super! Nice job by our goalies, Mark and Joey, and defense, Matthew, Newton and Aseer. Wonderful goals by Peter, Ricky and Luke. Powerful blasts by midfielder Brian. Great game.
MicroSoccer
The MicroSoccer program run by Dom Marrano takes over at Denton Avenue School every Saturday morning. This program which began last spring has over 120 participants. The players consist of both boys and girls in either pre-K or kindergarten. It is a sight that brings a smile to faces of all ages and warms the heart. The most amazing thing to me is the fun-family atmosphere at the field. Each week I have witnessed the expert older brothers and sisters giving heartfelt advice to their younger sibling players. They cheer and coach with such enthusiasm it truly shows the meaning of team spirit.
Bob Willoughby, coach of the Kicks, said that the program really gives the kids a chance to develop their game and learn skills. This was echoed by Crush Coach Jim Carrick, who commented on how it teaches general skills and how to follow the ball. Tiny Tiger Coach Tom Nastasi added that it teaches the basic fundamentals while having fun. Scooby Doo Coach Carl Wood felt it was a real good program for the kids because they actually get to play games and not just do drills. Soccer Power Coach Mike Cavallaro thought the program was a great idea and was glad to see all the kids get involved. DinoRangers Coach David Fitzgerald liked that the program got the kids to have fun while playing especially since his players are all future World Cup stars. The Avengers coaching team of Jim Kennedy and Paul Rossi had a team of rough and tough players who seemed to like rugby but learned some soccer. The Panthers coaching team of Doug Bernardini and bill McTiernan praised the program as good place to start because all the kids get involved and play and the trainer was great with teaching the kids. Parents expressed many of these same sentiments. Cathy Cherson is new to soccer and was glad to see the parental involvement. Jay Campson, who is on his fifth Wildcat player, was glad the program had started because it teaches the kids a lot at an earlier age.
The Wildcat board thanks all the volunteers, congratulates the players and reminds everyone to remember to register early for next season. - Caryl Lorandini
Soccer Cats
10/27 and 11/3
Oct. 27: Watching this game, you would have found yourself shouting and cheering. This was one tough game to win, but our forwards didn't think so. They fired shot after shot at the goal, and Ashley Minda scored in the first half, giving the Soccer Cats a 1-0 lead. Laura Laucella saved the game by bodying the ball away from our goal. Excellent plays by Melissa Nohilly, Natalie Kelapire, and Nicol Eskenasi. Jackie Tripptree and Alexis Davis had a great game.
Nov. 3: The team pulled together for a 2-0 win. In the first half the game was played in front of the opposition's goal. Clare Adams assisted on a goal scored by Jennifer Taglich, who neatly put it in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Then Ashley Minda got a loose ball and banged it home for the second goal of the game. Wonderful defensive work by Hannah Edwards and Mary Insinga. A great job by goalies Danielle Restivo and Christen Riekert, who both contributed to the shutout. Awesome game by all the Soccer Cats!

Cougars 7 - Freeport 2
Another outstanding game by all the Cougars in a convincing 7-2 victory over a tough Freeport squad. Tommy Graziano scored the Cougars' first two goals, assisted by John Ganz and Robbie Ferlazzo. With the game tied 2-2 in the second half, the Cougars' offense exploded with five unanswered goals. John Weitzel blasted one in from the left corner for a 3-2 lead. Robbie Ferlazzo, Patrick Holahan, Andy Kalt, and Jon Paul DiMarco each scored a goal. Josh Blank, Jason Westfal and Mateuse Sulkowski each had an assist. The rock-solid wall of defense was anchored by Conor Kerrane, Robert Butler and Joe Myones. Nima Shahi was again brilliant in goal. And Stefanie Weitzel did a fine job with the flag. Great game, Cougars!
Nov. 3
Panthers 3 - Syosset Heat 2
The Panthers cooled down the Syosset Heat in a close match-up at Hillside Grade School. Syosset took the lead early but our defense, led by Frank Arland and Bobby Young, quickly settled down the pace of the game. Carmelo and Damien drove up the right wing and made a centering pass to Danny "Cat" who scored our first goal on a sliding kick. Stephen Philips and Greg Priest battled in the midfield with the strong Syosset line. Frankie Civitano's great saves, Chris Mercadante's speed and Stephen Palozzolo's tenacity kept the score tied until the half. Both teams gave it their all and it wasn't until late in the game when Chris Abikaram muscled his way through the defense and shot barely wide of the net while Ryan came flying in from the left to blast home the second goal. With minutes remaining, Syosset tied it up at two. The Panthers were not spent. Off a throw-in, Tyler lifted the ball across the box to Ryan who headed in the winning goal. The team was still cheering when the referee blew the final whistle. Good luck in your last game of the season.
Nov. 3
Lions 5 - Bayside Vipers 3
The Lions came out strong this game. Andrew opened the scoring with a nice goal assisted by Brandon and Stephen C. A few minutes later Andrew struck again putting the Lions up 2-0. Our defensive wall of A.J., Max, Thomas and Charlie was on the mark. Nothing got by and the first half ended with the Lions up by 2. The Vipers came out strong in the second half and Steve L. made an awesome save but the Vipers put in the rebound. The Vipers scored again to tie the game. The Lions didn't give up. Alex and Robert kept the pressure on and it paid off with a neat goal by Brandon off a pass from A.J. Brandon put the Lions up by two with a strong penalty kick. Tommy made some key saves in goal to preserve the lead. Drew finished off the scoring with a beautiful pass from Max. Great game Lions. Keep it going.
Nov. 4
Topcats 2 - Valley Stream 1
Down 1-0 at half time, the Topcats came roaring back with two unanswered goals led by Caroline Smolenski's powerful breakaway goal. The victory shot was sealed by Deanna Cannella drilling the ball into the upper right hand corner of the net. Outstanding midfield play by Melissa Montreiul, Deanna Cannella and Melissa Pastoressa who kept pressure on our opponents all game long. Top hats off to Joanna Dombal who made tremendous saves in her goaltending debut. Welcome back Mary Phelan, we missed you.
Nov. 4
Magic Cats 2 - Plainedge Power 1
Good all around play made for a great game. Shannon Flinn who scored within the first five minutes of the game started by Dolores Yovino on defense who passed up to midfielder Kelly Smolensky who then dished it to Shannon. Our second goal came again by a good team effort and Katelin Chiasera finishing with a beautiful shot in the Power basket. Our forward line Nicole Fertita, Shannon Kearney in the middle, Lora Carr, and Ali Fernandez made some really fine plays using their skills, just coming up short of scoring for the magic. They kept the pressure on the Power defense the entire game. Once again our defense unit Nicole Contrada, Ali Nilsen and Dolores Yovino along with Megan Favale who was awesome in goal, stopping every assault made by the power. Get well soon Ali Siciliano, we missed you. Great game. Go Magic!
Nov. 4
Snow Leopards 3 - RVC Fever 0
Another great game for the Snow Leopards! After a slow start and a 0-0 tie at the half, the Snow Leopards came out strong, dominating the last 30 minutes of play. Sending shot after shot on the RVC keeper the girls finally broke through when Jamie put in her second goal of the season with a touch pass neatly in the corner of the net. Tracie put another one in the net and Allison Z. closed out the scoring a few minutes later.
Super all around effort by Alison T., Gina M., Kim M., Jessica, Jenna, Amanda, Ellen, Marielena and Katie. Outstanding shut out goal keeping by Erin, starting for the second week in a row. Great job girls, keep up the hard work.
Nov. 3
Sabercats 2 - Garden City 1
Goalie Alicia had total control of this soccer game. She stopped shot after shot with her dynamic saves. The midfielders played with determination and drive. Jessica came through with her long and accurate throw-ins. She started an offensive push with a throw-in to Lauren who placed it to Kristen, she sent it to Erin. Erin put in the big goal. The defense of Lauren, Christina and Cristina kept the Garden City forwards stymied.
In the second half, Jessica put a beautiful corner in front of the net and Garden City helped put it in for the Sabercats. Garden City was able to score toward the end of the game but Courtney and Alison kept the pressure on and the Sabercats pulled out the win with their excellent defensive and offensive teamwork.
Nov. 4
Sabercats 4 - Auburndale 0
The Sabercats started the game with a quick goal from Stefanie with the assist from Maiken. The forwards barraged the Auburndale goalie with constant shots. Finally in the second half, Danielle connected with a blast from the left, followed by goals from Nicole R. and Nicole D. Kristin was the game's utility player playing all positions except goal.
Another great game from the midfielders and defenders and another shutout for Alicia. Great going Sabercats. Get rest this week, the big game is next Sunday!
Oct. 28
Sabercats 1 - Glen Cove 0
On a blustery day in October, the Sabercats' defense once again kept their opponents scoreless. Great job, Christina, Cristina, Lauren and Alicia. The forwards, Danielle, Kristin, Erin, RoseAnn and Nicole R. put the pressure on Glen Cove's defense. In the first half, Jessica started the offensive push and made a pass to Nicole D. who crossed it to Stephanie who gave the Sabercats their only goal. Alison and Courtney were splendid in midfield. Glen Cove had the wind in their favor in the second half but the Sabercats were able to hold them back and win the game.
Jungle Cats 0 -
Plainview-Old Bethpage Sharks 1
The Jungle Cats should all be proud of their efforts despite coming up on the short side of a 1-0 decision against Plainview-Old Bethpage. The Jungle Cat defense was stingy throughout the game. Jessica was outstanding, making numerous steals and clearances. Christina T. had a superb game, using her feet and head to keep things clear at the stopper position. Nicole, Andrea and Ann Marie were all solid at the defensive line. Goalies Lauren and Sarah easily handled the few shots that got through to goal. The mid-fielders played a good positional game. The forwards worked together to develop several good opportunities, especially in the second half. Nicole, Victoria and Christina S. made several probes into the Shark goal area. Shannon and Danielle showed impressive two-way performances. Kristina and Rhonda made a number of good passes. Melissa, Lauren and Sarah were sparkplugs at midfield. In spite of the scoring drought, the Jungle Cats played an improved brand of soccer.
Speedycats 0 - Oceanside Blaze 2
The Speedycats came out a little flat today. When the defense clicked the offense sputtered. When the offense was in sinc the defense broke down. Kim Grammas was again impressive at fullback, out of nowhere she came behind the goalie and cleared the ball out of the goal mouth to keep the score to only one goal at the half. Joanne Montoni made save after save to keep the score close. The midfielders played Oceanside tough today led by Colleen Holahan, Allison Ferrara, Samantha Selvaggio, Diane McCormack, Jessica Galante and Lauren Marra. The defense worked hard and did not give up against the Blaze attack and were led by Marie LaMaida, Alicia Ezat and Kim. The offensive charge was led by Alicia DeMarco, Nicole Thomas, Marylu Donvan and Janelle Reif.
Speedycats 3 - Auburndale NYC Slickers 1
The Speedycats came out ready to play and looked impressive. Alicia DeMarco started things off with a goal from a well placed pass from Marylu Donovan. The midfielders were able to control the middle of the field, led by the hustle of Colleen Holahan, Nicole Thomas, Ali Ferrara, Lauren Marra, Diane McCormack, Samantha Selvaggio and Jessica Galente. The defense was outstanding with Kim Grammas, Denise Ingram and Alicia Ezat shutting the Slickers down.
The second half the Cats came out firing with Marie LaMaida setting up Marylu for the second goal and then on a corner kick connecting with Janelle Reif for the third. Joanne Montoni and Janelle were again solid in goal.
Lady Panthers 3 - Albertson 1
The ladies played one of their best games against their North Hempstead rivals. Kathy Gualotuna started the scoring when she lofted one over the goalie's outstreched arms. It remained that way until the second half when Kathy again snuck one by on the right side. Brianna Coker was outstanding in goal frustrating Albertson time and again. Hard work on the wings by Kelcey Zacarese, Annmarie McHale and Tanya Shimon kept the pressure on. Alison Grammas and Jessica Egre found the open lanes and Jenna Feibus, Jackie Masci and Dominique DeFelice provided the strength needed up the middle to counter Albertson's big forwards. After Albertson closed the lead to one on a clearly offside goal, Olivia Peros provided a brilliant lead pass to spring Stacey Wood on a breakaway which she blasted into the back of the net to ice the game. Good job, ladies. Now let's end the season on a high note next week.
