Topcats Go Undefeated to 1st Place Finish
Topcats-1 Albertson-0
Jennifer Fox got the Topcats going early in the game dribbling across midfield deep into our opponents zone, putting a line drive shot right on goal to a waiting Caroline Smolenski. With a perfect slide pass she fed Deanna Cannela the ball who drilled it into the left-hand corner of the net. That's all the Topcats needed to shut down Albertson. Great defensive performance by goalie Michelle Vias, Kimberly Kinch, DinaNicastro and Meghan McCullaugh.
Topcats-2 Jericho-1
Topcats won this very physical and emotional battle through sheer determination. Joanna Dombal played at an extremely high intensity level, fighting for all balls that came her way. Melissa Montreuil had another solid game at midfield sending a booming shot on goal which enabled our sniper Deanna Cannella to punch it into our opponent's net. Cara Rosario took on three defenders in front of their goal and was able to find the right-hand corner of the net for a very exciting and winning goal. Juliana Stalzer played a very aggressive and solid game at forward along with Michelle Wenz who had three shots on goal.
Topcats-3 RVC-0
After a scoreless first half the Topcats broke the ice within a textbook play. Joanna Dombal delivered a crossover pass to a streaking Caroline Smolenski who located leftwing Cara Rosario who calmly tapped it in. Caroline set up the second goal with a pinpoint pass to a waiting Joanna, who drove it high and hard into the net. Jennifer Fazolari closed out the scoring with a dazzling unassisted breakaway goal. Rock solid defensive performance by Mary Phelan, Dina Nicastro and goalie Michelle Vias.
Topcats-2 No. Shore Cyclones-0
Topcats ended the day with its most dominant effort yet. Jennifer Fox assisted Cara Rosario to open the scoring. Jennifer Fox finished the scoring on another electrifying breakaway goal. Melissa Pastoressa played an outstanding game at midfield.
Tournament Roundup
A stellar defensive performance by the Topcats who held opponents to only one goal in four games. Tophats off to North Hempstead for another successful tournament. Congratulations to coaches John Stalzer, Joe Dombal and Mike Vias.
Lady Lions Capture Second
At North Hempstead Cup Tournament
The Lady Lions came ready to play this weekend at Harbor Links fields. They faced East Meadow, Fairfield, Larchmont and Cold Spring Harbor. They came up one short only to East Meadow, which caused them to take second. The scores were:
East Meadow 1 NHP 0
Fairfield 1 NHP 3
Larchmont 0 NHP 2
CSH 0 NHP 1
The girls played excellently with great passing and controlling the games. The offense was led by Christina Cinelli, Jen LaMaida, Julianne Abel, Lauren Chiasera and Elana Jaroff. The mids, who with their tenacious fight kept feeding the front line, were Dana Obidienzo, Keriann Simon, Meagan Kennedy and Nicole Daly. Sweeper Alyssa Faller kept the defense alive with great communication and leadership. The brick wall of defense was Lisa Beatty, Brittany Schenke, Ariana Dicicco, Ayssa Fishman and Danielle Sawicki. Hats off to our keeper Sarah Mikhail for a job well done! Many of the girls played various positions and proved how versatile this team really is. The goal scorers were Christina Cinelli, Lauren Chiasera, Jen LaMaida, Alyssa Faller and Nicole Daly. All it takes is one to win, keep shooting and playing hard. Well done girls!

Snow Leopards-4
Bayshore Breakers-0
On a sloppy, cold, wet, and rainy afternoon the Snow Leopards came out to play and won their first round game against a determined Breakers team.
Showing that teamwork is what really counts, four different Snow Leopards scored! Amanda on a direct shot from in front of the net; Tracie on a penalty shot; Alison T. on a rebound after a perfect cross off a corner kick by Allison Z. and Gina A. on a left-footed screamer that caught everyone flat-footed.
Jessica was awesome on the wing, winning the ball and setting up Gina M. on offense. Jamie really kept the midfield in check and distributed the ball. Kim M. playing stopper for the first time, covered lots of ground to kill scoring threats. Katie, Erin and Marielena pushed up to clear anything that came through. While Ellen playing sweeper sent the ball out whenever it got through. Claire made an outstanding save on a penalty kick to keep the shutout. Good luck in the next round!

Cougars-3 Sachem-1
In their first ever Columbus weekend tournament, the NHP Cougars played extremely well in a convincing 3-1 victory over a tough Sachem team. The Cougars' first goal was scored by Tommy Graziano assisted by Robbie Ferlazzo. Andy Kalt scored the Cougars' second goal on a fine pass from Patrick Holahan. Robbie F. scored the final goal on a pass from Tommy G. Offense/midfielders John Ganz, Mateuse Sulkowski, Joshua Blank, Joe Myones and Jason Westfal kept the pressure on, controlling the game. The outstanding defense was led by Robert Butler, John Weitzel, Jon-Paul DiMarco and Conor Kerrane. Goalie Nima Shahi was nearly perfect in the nets. And, of course, Cosmo DiMarco did a fine job with the flag. Great tournament guys!

Panthers-7 NY Hota United-0
The U-10 Panthers opened up the first week of the season with a strong outing defeating Hota United. The defense and midfield performance by Frank A. and Danny daunted all efforts to challenge the Panthers' goalie Frank C. Tyler, Ryan, Danny, Steven Phillips and Damien combined to score seven goals. The Panthers were dominant and played keep away during the last 10 minutes of the game. What a great way to start the season.
Panthers-4 Lynbrook E. Rockaway Magic-1
Thanks to Damien Murray for his rendition of Amazing Grace and God Bless America on the bagpipes as we recognized a moment of silence after the recent tragedy at the World Trade Center. The Panthers were inspired by the moment as Ryan and Tyler quickly scored two goals in the early minutes of the game. Bobby, Carmelo and Chris Mercadante aggressively pressed their defensive line across midfield in support of the offense led by Damien, Greg and Steven. Greg and Damien added two goals before Lynbrook had a breakaway gaining their one goal late in the game. Great teamwork!
Panthers-2 East Meadow Vipers-0
The Panthers went to East Meadow on an overcast day, to fight a hard fought battle with the Vipers. This was a physical game as the Vipers challenged our Panthers on every possession. Bobby made a great stop with a header at midfield that opened the way for Tyler to attack and score the first goal of the game midway through the first half. Steven Palazollo, Chris Abikaram and Carmelo worked as a team stopping the Vipers and limiting their chances in the first half. The Vipers had a wind advantage in the second half and the Panther keeper Frankie Civitano made four great saves to gain his second shutout of the season. The Panthers sealed victory when Ryan received a cross from Tyler and finished with a strong goal.
State Cup Game on Sunday, Sept. 30
Panthers-2 Garden City Lions-0
The Panthers move on to the second round of the State Cup with a win against the Lions on a cold, cold, wet day. There was no score in the first half, only ringing wet boys trying to gain footing on the damp ground. The Panthers opened the second half with spirit and a driving wind at their backs. Bobby took control of the left wing and Tyler caused havoc in the Lions' defense. Our defensive line, Frank, Carmelo and Chris M. moved up to press the attack. The relentless effort finally broke down the Lions' defense as Tyler stole the ball among the defense and scored a well-placed goal from the 18-yard line. Chris A. and Steven Phillips combined to score an insurance goal as they broke through the midfield and Steven drove home a powerful shot to the top of the net. Good luck Panthers in the second round!
