As our soccer season resumed under absolutely gorgeous weather as the spirit and enthusiasm never missed a beat. Due to conflicts with other local activities we combined all the players into one huge game. The red team roared off to an early lead with Stefani Egre supplying much of the power. She tallied a hat trick (three goals) and was ably supported by Andrew Solar with a fourth goal. The yellow team answered with Joey Ellul rocketing in two goals. Andrew Abberton added another one as did our newest player, Joey Andreani, to knot the gam at 4-4. Adam Jackson had his hands full in goal but rose to the occasion with many fine diving stops to keep the contest close. Dylan Dowdell played very well at midfield with great passes. Dimi Karras boomed some big free kicks to jump-start many plays and Nicholas Marangoudakis was super with outstanding tackles on defense.

Sabercats 4 - West Hempstead 2

Our sympathy and prayers go out to all those who lost loved ones and friends on Sept. 11. After a moment of silence, West Hempstead and the Sabercats played an enjoyable game of soccer. The forwards, Nicole D., RoseAnn, Stefanie, Danielle pushed up with shot after shot and all near misses. Lauren took control and tied the game. Then, Maiken gave Lauren a through pass and she scored again and finished the game with a hat trick, the third goal - a penalty shot. Kristin had a nice goal to the far post. All the players played well. Great game by the Sabercats.

Speedycats 1 - East Meadow Cyclones 2

The Speedycats played the always tough Cyclone team. They scored both their goals in the first half. Diane McCormack scored the only goal with a blast from just outside the 18 meter box.

The second half was all Cats. The defense led by Marie LaMaida, Alicia Ezat and Denise Ingram were able to shut down the Cyclones. The midfielders of Colleen Holahan, Allison Ferrara, Lauren Marra, Samantha Selvaggio and Jessica Galante started to gel and made some fine passes to the front line. The goaltending of Janelle Reif and Joanne Montoni was outstanding.

Lady Panthers 5 - Massapequa Miracles 1

Olivia and Kelcey each had two goals and an assist and Emily netted another to give the ladies their second win of the season. Kathy was magnificent in the center and Stacey and Jenna used their speed on the outside. Dominique, Alison, Jessica and Jackie worked well with each other on defense to thwart the opponents' rushes and start offensive opportunities. Tanya and Annmarie were instrumental in keeping the offensive pressure on. Once again, Brianna turned back all Massapequa opportunities in goal. Good work, ladies, and keep up the good work!

Tigers 2 - Syosset 6

The Tigers had a tough loss against Syosset. The Iron Curtain defense played an awesome game, which included some incredible saves by Dylan. Midfield had a tough time in keeping the ball up. The goalie, Nick, was saving shots left and right. Both Raymond and Ronak managed to keep the pressure on. True to Tiger spirit this pressure led to two great goals by Allen and Joe. The entire team showed great heart and fought to the end never giving up.

Jungle Cats 1 -

Plainview-Old Bethpage Sharks 0

The Jungle Cats played an outstanding game in their home opener to defeat the Sharks 1-0. The defense was superb throughout. Goalie Lauren made five saves in the first half, one of them spectacular. Jessica, Andrea, Nicole, and Michelle anchored the back line. The defense did not allow a shot on goalie Sarah in the second half. The Jungle Cats received solid two-way performances from the mid-fielders Christina, Shannon, Melissa, Danielle, Rhonda, Alison, Ann Marie, Sarah and Lauren. The forwards also gave an inspired effort, showing creativity and hustle from Kris, Grace, Christina, and Victoria. Grace scored the game winner on a great effort midway through the second half. The Jungle Cats took a total of 10 shots on goal throughout the game, including shots from Shannon, Melissa, Grace, Victoria, Kris and Jessica. The Jungle Cats demonstrated spirit, effort, and communication in this victory.

Lady Lynx vs. Manhasset Warthogs

Talk about your range of emotions. After having the ultimate and most atrocious act of terrorism laid at our doorsteps, we as a small part of the global soccer community, packed up last Sunday and headed to Soccer Park on what would be a perfect early fall morning.

After acknowledging a moment of silence, our daughters lined up under the skirl of bagpipes, Amazing Grace and God Bless America filling the air as both teams set their collective chins to the task at hand.

The experience of watching these kids flying up and down the field, kicking up the morning dew, tearing up chunks of turf and giving their all was purifying. For 70 minutes we were able to escape the reality of what our corner of the world now has to deal with, and more than a few of us savored every second. After the final whistle I, along with most of you, then got in our cars and punched in 1010 WINS to tune in for our latest shred of hope, but oh, those precious 70 minutes.

"How 'bout 'dem Lynx."

The thoughts and prayers of an entire nation are with those directly and indirectly devastated by this unspeakable act of cowardliness. God Bless America.

Magic Cats 0 - Oceanside Power 1

This was a fast paced, well played game. Megan Favale was phenomenal in goal the entire game. Saving many attempts by the Power. Our forwards, Nicole F., Ali S., Katelyn C., Alley F. just came up short on many attempts. Great defensive teamwork ruled. Dolores Y., Nicole C., Alley N., Laura C., shut the Power down. Kelly S., Shannon F. and Shannon K. jumped on every ball controlling the midfield, passing the ball up to our strikers who just couldn't put one in the back of the net. The lone goal came late in the first half, when Megan saved a blast, only to have the ball pop out and tapped in by the Power. Great teamwork girls. Go Magic!

Cougars 4 - Lynbrook Sharks 0

The Cougars traveled to Lynbrook and played the pesky Sharks. The first half was a hard fought battle with the Cougars dominating play. Robbie appeared to put in the first goal of the game, but the play was called offside. It wasn't until two minutes left when Joe took the ball at midfield and smartly dribbled through the Shark defense and put home the game's first goal. The second half was all Cougars. Great offensive pressure by Jason, Andy and Matt opened the floodgates. Tommy, Patrick and Conner each scored to put the game out of reach. The defensive wall was led by Big John, Jon Paul and Robert. John and Josh controlled the midfield and Nima handled the few balls that came his way.

The Cougars would like to express their heartfelt condolences and best wishes to the victims and families of the World Trade Center attack. We thank all the brave men and women who worked so hard to help during this terrible crisis. God Bless America.

TopCats 1 - Garden City WildStorm 0

The TopCats led by team Captain Michelle Vias in goal and supported by the defensive unit of Kimberly Kinch, Jennifer Fox and Dina Nicastro shut down a very talented and aggressive GC team. Caroline Smolenski scored on an electrifying goal assisted by Joanna Dombal. Cara Rosario spearheaded the spirited play of the TopCats all game long. The TopCats would like to welcome new players Jennifer Fazzolari, Kimberly Kinch, Mary Phelan, Michelle Wenz, and Melissa Pastoressa.

Mountain Lions 5 - Garden City 3

The Mountain Lions put in a solid team effort in route to a victory over Garden City. Michael Riccardi started the scoring when he blasted home a loose ball in front. Matt Siracusa put two more in the net with high hard shots from outside the box. Danny Naso joined in the fun with a well-placed left-footed shot off the inside of the post and into the net. Makis Konstantatos added the final goal by beating both the last defender and the keeper. Mountain Lion goalkeeper Johnny Coster had an outstanding game, making several diving saves to help preserve the victory.

Lions 2 - Albertson Atomics 1

The U-10 Lions did it again. This game was a nail biter with the Atomics taking the lead just before half time. The Lions came out strong in the second half with Tommy taking a pass from A.J. and going down the field for the score. Drew, Thomas, Alex and Brandon kept the pressure on and Stephen C. followed with a neat goal of his own. The defensive wall of Max, Charlie and Robert held the opposition at bay. Nice job in goal by Steve L. Keep up the good work boys!

Insync 2 - Heart Breakers 2

Insync started their season off with a tie to a team that earned their goals well. Both teams played their hearts out. Jamie Reich scored two goals for Insync in the first half to put Insync up 2-0. Renee Barlev made nice saves in goal and Diana Losi took control back on defense, with the help from Ariel Fishbain. The second half, the girls tired some, but Lelia Cohen, Lauren DiGiovanni and Christina Markadakis wouldn't let that stop them as they hustled up and down the field trying to score a third goal. Excellent teamwork girls. Keep working hard.

All games played on Sept. 23 began with a moment of silence out of respect for the World Trade Center victims, their families and all the rescue workers.
