The New Hyde Park Little League Board of Directors, under the direction of co-presidents Richard Coppola and Al Weinman spent many long heart-wrenching hours agonizing over whether or not to hold the New Hyde Park Little League Breakfast to reward the various teams of boys and girls who placed little league baseball last season with trophies.

Their first inclination was to cancel the whole event, in the light of the World Trade Center tragedy but when they saw in the eyes of the many children disappointment and despair the group reconsidered and held the breakfast as scheduled at the New Hyde Park Inn.

Needless to say the entire affair was very somber and any adult who received any kind of a personal award came to the microphone with gratitude and almost all ended their short speech of acceptance with "God Bless America." That is to say all except the children. They were thrilled and pleased with the trophies they received, which made the entire ceremony so worthwhile. They hooted and howled when each was presented with shiny new trophies of his/her very own and for a moment all assembled at the breakfast focused on the fact that the Little League is after all run for the children.

Co-president Richard Coppola, who is leaving the Little League was honored for his 14 years of service and Donna Sonnenberg was honored for her years of service as well as a player agent.

The league also honored the sponsors whose teams all placed in first, second or third place. They are: Maspeth Savings Bank, State Bank of Long Island and J.
