The seasoned regulars were back for an exciting, opening game to kickoff the fall season. In the junior game, Michael Antonoff paved the way for the red team with two solid goals. Andrew Solar and Christian Buccellato responded with one each to end the contest in a tie. Lauren Hyman was a standout in goal for the yellow team to keep the game within reach. Robert Mancini had a terrific game for the red team with several blasts on net. The senior game was another tight match. Stefani Egre was the offensive star for the red team with two goals. Adam Jackson and Joey Bongiorno tallied for the yellow team to even out the scoring. Karen Babyak and debbie Chin were super at midfield for the read team. The yellow team saw Elliot Siegel play an excellent game on defense while Matt Saraiva was the outstanding goalie making some crucial saves to preserve the tie.

On Sept. 15, LIJSL is holding a coach's clinic for the Special Soccer Program in Plainview. Anyone interested in taking this one day course, please see or call Richard Bletsch at 328-3043 to register.

Lady Lions 0 - Smithtown Stampede 1

The Lady Lions came out tough, but the Smithtown Stampede came out right on top. It was an exciting game for both sides, but in the middle in the first half Smithtown got a lucky goal. Al the girls played well. Great passing! Good luck next week Lady Lions!

Snow Leopards 7 - Auburndale Raiders 1

What a way to start the season! The Snow Leopards came out to play with their scoring shoes on. Amanda scored the first goal from point blank range following some near misses by Gina A., who put three in the net for her first career hat trick. Super midfield and defensive wing play by Erin, and Allison Z. help set up the next goals by Jessica and Gina M.

The defense held solid denying the Raiders any opportunities. Jenna, Marielena, Kim S. and Katie cleared almost everything that came their way. Kim M. and Tracie patrolled and controlled the midfield sending pinpoint passes forward. Jamie closed out the scoring with her first ever Snow Leopard goal.

Magic Cats 0 - Massapequa Power 5

The Magic Cats played their first season game as a travel team against Massapequa Power. Though it was a tough competition to start the season, the Magic Cats held Massapequa to a 1-0 lead through the first half. Megan Favale did an awesome job in goal, crushing many attempts by the Power. Dolores Yovino, Ali Fernandez, Nicole Contrada, and Ali Siciliano, on defense, played strong and consistently fed the mid-fielders. Nicole Fertitia, Katelyn Chiasera and Kelly Smolenski worked the field just coming up short of a few goals. Shannon Flynn and Shannon Kearney, at mid-field, never gave up on the ball. Ali Nilsen and Laura Carr, with strong kicks, and hawking the ball, tried to get the game under control; however, the second half was unfortunately controlled by the Power.

Ref-fuel Tournament

The Mountain Lions prepared for the fall season by playing 10 games over the past two weekends at the Ref-fuel and HBC Tournaments. The first weekend was highlighted by well played 4-1 team victory over the Albertson Aztecs and a last minute come from behind draw against Merrick. Thanks to Matt Nathan of the NHP Leopards who helped out the team as a guest player at Ref-fuel.

HBC Tournament

The boys started out the HBC Tournament by losing both games on Saturday. But the Mountain Lions bounded back and proved the type of team they really are by winning the last three games while giving up only one goal. The boys finished the weekend comeback with a 3-0 victory over the Lake Grove Tom Cats who were undefeated in the spring season and in the tournament, until they ran into the Mountain Lions. It was an all around well-played game in which the boys were first to every ball.

Welcome to Matt Siracursa and his family to the Mountain Lions.

Jungle Cats 1 - FP Bravehearts 4

Despite going down by two goals to Floral Park in the first eight minutes of play, the Jungle Cats were able to stabilize their defenses. Nicole, Andrea and Jessica were solid on defense, allowing only two more shots on goal in the rest of the half. Goalie Sara made one spectacular save and made some powerful kicks from goal. Team newcomers Lauren, Christina S., Melissa and Victoria showed a lot of hustle and fit in very well with their new team. Andrea scored a goal for the Jungle Cats directly off of a corner kick at the 20 minute mark.

Speedycats 3 - Bethpage Broncos 2

The Speedycats started the fall season where they had left off with an impressive win over the Bethpage Broncos. Marylou Donovan, with a well placed pass from midfielder Lauren Marra, started things off with a blast that found right side of the net. The Broncos came back and tied the game. The offensive play of Kim Grammas and Joanne Montoni paid off with Kim scoring the goal. For most of the first and all of the second half the Cats midfielders led by Colleen Holahan, Allison Ferrara, Jessica Galante, Lauren, Samantha Selvaggio and Alicia DeMarco were able to gain the upper hand in controlling the middle of the field.

The second half started with Bethpage tying the score. Offense lie of Diane McCormack, Jannelle Reif and Marylou, who with a burst of speed out ran their fullback and scored the go ahead goal.

Sabercats 4 - Plainview-Old Bethpage 1

The Sabercats started out with a new lineup and different position changes. The Sabercats seem a little flat in the start of the game. Plainview was able to put in the first goal but the Sabercats shut them down after that. The Sabercats answered their goal with a goal by Cristina C. with the assist from Maiken.

The Sabercats came on strong in the second half. Danielle had some beautiful plays to the right with some nice crosses. Lauren received one and put it on goal. Rose Ann who had a great game sent the ball over to Lauren who gave it to Nicole R. and she scored. Rose Ann, Nicole D. and Erin had some "heads up" scoring opportunities. Finally, Jessica made a play to Erin, Erin played it over to Courtney. Courtney put in the fourth goal.

Lions Win Opener vs. Syosset United

On a beuatiful Saturday afternoon the NHP Lions U-10 boys came out roaring. Brandon, Tommy and Stephen C. kept the pressure on and it paid off with a great goal by Alex. The defense of Charlie, Robert, Thomas and Max was awesome. The next goal started with a neat pass from AJ to Andrew who pushed it to Drew for the score. Steve . was fantastic in goal. What a way to start the first season together. The coaches and parents are very proud of you.

Lady Panthers 4 - Plainedge 3

The ladies started off strong taking a 2-0 lead with captain Olivia Peros converting a corner kick and a long-range strike by Kelcey Zacarese. Goalie Brianna Coker kept the ladies in the game with her quick reflexes and sent play downfield with high and long punts. Dominique DeFelice, Ali Grammas, Jackie Masci and Jessica Egre kept the box clean on defense. In the second half, a couple of unlucky bounces enabled Plainedge to tie it at 2 before Stacey Wood dazzled the crowd with her fancy footwork and smashed one off the post where Annmarie McHale drove it home to re-take the lead.

Cougars 4 - Hicksville Earthquake 0

The New Hyde Park Cougars began their inaugural season in fine fashion, completely dominating the Hicksville Earthquake in a convincing 4-0 victory. In a tightly played first half, the Cougars' offense finally broke through. On a fine pass from midfielder John Weitzel, Robbie Ferlazzo scored the game's first goal, rifling in a shot from the right side. Midfielders John Ganz, Mateuse Sulkowski, and Joshua Blank kept the pressure on, controlling the pace of the game for the Cougars. Coupled with the smothering wall of defense led by Jon-Paul DiMarco, Joe Myones, Conor Kerrane, and Nima Shahi, the Earthquake offense was reduced to barely a tremor. Goaltender Robert Butler played flawlessly, making several outstanding saves to frustrate the Hicksville squad. The second half belonged totally to the Cougars.

Cougars Tournament

The Cougars played in their first game/tournament this weekend. After a slow start losing the first game 1-0, the boys came on stronger with each game. They tied the next two games before they broke loose and dominated the last two games by the scores of 7-0 and 4-0. This enabled the Cougars to capture third place and win their first trophy. The offense was led by Robbie, Tommy, Patrick, Jason and Andy. Nima and Robert played outstanding in the nets. Big John, Jon Paul, Conner, Joseph and John played well at midfield and on defense.

The boys never gave up and demonstrated teamwork and sportsmanship. You should be proud. Special thanks to the parents for their support over the long hot weekend.
