As a resident of Garden City Park for the last 15 years, it saddens me to see what is happening to this wonderful community. As I walk down the streets I see businesses that do not maintain their property and consistently violate codes. Cars parked on sidewalks, weeds as tall as trees and garbage spewed in the streets.

Just the other day I was horrified to see two children hanging out their apartment windows. The windows were old and their frames rotted. Some apartments are overcrowded with immigrant workers. Are we waiting for a tragedy to occur before anything is done? Where are our building inspectors? I see houses being knocked down and being replaced by houses which are far too big for the property they are built on. These houses are built right on top of one another; they look totally ridicules and change the whole face of our community. Maybe it's time to look at our building codes. Things need to change!

Police also need to control our streets better. The undesirables that hang out in a local bar need to be controlled or better yet, shut down! This is a family community and we all need to stand up and demand better. How about spending some tax dollars to make our community beautiful. Planting a few trees would be a start

The Town of North Hempstead officials need to wake up and notice Garden City Park. We pay taxes too!
