At the annual installation dinner of the New Hyde Park Fire Department, Sinead Merrick, of the Rescue Company, was presented with the "Firefighter of the Year" award. She was so honored for her exemplary performance under extreme duress in saving the life of a family member. FULL STORY

The Board of Education Meeting at the Manor Oaks School on July 9 began with a moment of silence for former Superintendent of the New Hyde Park/Garden City Park School District Thomas Rooney who recently passed away and Superintendent Joseph Rudaitis requested that the flags on all of the schools be flown at half-staff. Phillies broke the winning streak of the Twins in a very exciting game. Frank Pate started for the Phillies, pitching three scoreless innings. Helping him out in the field with some good defensive plays were J.D. Delnevo, Dylan Brolly, Toni Citrinti and Thomas Mauro. Joe Morana relieved Frank for two innings and was able to keep the twins in check. Some outstanding catching for the Phillies by Chris Sanchez who gunned down a runner attempting to steel third and James Regan making a few smart plays on balls hit in front of the plate. Offensively, Lou Zaremba and Gurshaan Bains drew tough walks to start a five run inning capped off with a bases loaded double by Kevin Seger. Kyle Brennan came in to pitch the last and was able to close out the game. Great game from both teams.
