Merillon 2 vs. Glen Oaks

It is sad to see our softball season come to an end. Every single girl on the team played like a star tonight. Suzanne Kostel was on base 3 out of 4 times. She certainly has a good eye for pitches. Julie Hundertmark, Jaclyn Liebowitz and Natalie Katz, hit the ball very well. Excellent plays in the field were made by Katie Hundertmark, who played a terrific 3rd base all season and Christina Stone, playing 2nd base. Casey Dowdell and Jessica Laredo had done awesome jobs behind the plate all season.

All of my pitchers chipped in tonight to try and get the win. Unfortunately, it took us extra innings to lose by one run. Jaclyn Liebowitz was the star pitcher on the night of June 15. She pitched 3 unhittable innings, striking out 8 batters. Amy Kalwiss did great, pitching her heart out. Hannah Edwards and Jessica Laredo, each came in to help out in key situations, and did fantasticly.

Over the season, remarkable improvement was evident in all aspects of the game, especially fielding and hitting. The girls came a long way and really learned a lot. I want to thank the parents for all their help, support and cooperation. Have a wonderful, peaceful, relaxing summer. Meet you all on the diamond in September for fall baseball. Enjoy.

Merillon 7 - Albertson Herricks 2

A great game played by all Merillon players. The offense was led by Tommy Brennan (2 hits). Christopher Kassoff, Nick Jandovitz, Matt Morrisey, Mike Santalesa bases loaded, double 2 RBI, Matt Loosen 3 run homer. Jamie Brolly 2 RBI Stephen Kostel threw out 2 base runners and Steve Cialone pitched a masterpiece. Nicky Lipinski starred on defense. This was the first win over three rivals in the last two years.

LaVera Pizza Pirates

Just a special thank you to all members of the regular season undefeated LaVera Pizza Pirates. We came up short in our only playoff game but what a great season we had. Congratulations to the winners. CDM Tire Expos - 2

La Vera Pirates - 3

In the last game of the regular season, the CDM Tire Expos lost a tough contest to the undefeated LaVera Pirates, 3-2. The Expos made it close when the hitting star of the game, Matthew Williams, slammed a 2 run double in the 5th inning to close the gap to 3-2. Fine pitching by Matthew Loosen and Matthew Morissey who combined for 7 strikeouts and kept the game close. Good hitting by Leo Varghese who singled and stole 2 bases. Fine base running by Jonathan Nizzo and Chris Lodise who each stole a base. Good fielding and effort by Warren Kelly, Cory Williams, Derek Cheung, Sean McGonigle, Clement Yu, Sammy Wilbur and Matthew Psallidas.

CDM Tire Expos - 2

Lazio Pizza Angels - 6

The Lazio Pizza Angels defeated the CDM Tire Expos 6-2 in a hard fought playoff game. Matthew Loosen stuck out 6, singled and clobbered a fence clearing home run for the Expos. Matthew Morissey who was the starting pitcher, stuck out 3 in 3 innings and doubled. Warren Kelly and Matthew Williams had the other Expo hits against the tough Angels pitching. Good fielding and effort by Sammy Wilbur, Cory Williams, Jonathan Nizzo, Clement Yu, Derek Cheung and Leo Varghese. I would just like to say we had a great group of boys to work with, and they had a fine season. I would like to thank Mike Psallidas and CDM Tire for sponsoring us this year. Thanks to my coach and mentor Tom Kelly for a job well done with the boys. Thank you to Gary Wilbur for the article write-ups and doing a great job with the book and team stats. Thank you to Ron Loosen for helping out and getting the boys ready to play. Thanks to the parents for bringing the boys to all the practices and being supportive.
