County Legislator Richard Nicolello, of New Hyde Park, is reminding residents that swimming pool safety must be a priority. Nicolello said, "All it takes is just a few seconds for a child to drown. I urge all residents to take the following precautions as outlined by the Department of Health."

Don't

* Leave children unattended, not even for a few seconds, not to answer the phone, not to answer the door, not to get something, not for anything.

Do

* Make sure your pool is fenced around all four sides and locked.

* Make sure an adult is always present and watching.

* Make sure a phone is located near the pool.

* Learn CPR

Additional information on injury prevention programs is available by calling the Nassau County Department of Health Office of Injury Prevention at 571-3737.
