The Herricks Boy Scout Troop No. 201 held an impressive ceremony last Friday at the Albertson VFW, as four of its young men attained the Eagle Scout, the most prestigious rank in scouting.

The young men, Leonard Askinazy, Russell Monti, Christopher Nyberg and Christopher Washburn all worked long and hard to be eligible for the award culminating with a special project.

Leonard Askinazy conducted a toy drive for the benefit of the New York Foundling Hospital; Russell Monti held a food drive for the El Salvador earthquake victims; Christopher Nyberg restored the Nature Path at St. Ignatius Retreat House and Christopher Washburn held a winter coat drive for needy families. All projects were highly successful.

The newly installed Eagle Scouts were surrounded by family and friends. Plus, many dignitaries were on hand to present the young men with proclamations including New York State Assemblywoman Maureen O'Connell; Williston Park Mayor Doreen Ehrbar, Herricks School Board Trustee Christine Turner and Herricks High School Dean of Students William Brennan.
