We were a bit short on players this week due to competitive activities, so we combined our juniors and seniors and played one big intermediate game. An observation: the players handled playing on the full field in the heat better than the coaches! Overall the play was excellent. Adam Jackson deserves special recognition for some fine saves in goal. Karen Babyak and Matthew Saraiva led the defense for their respective teams with strong play. Billy Russo and Michael Raihl were both outstanding in the midfield. The game resulted in a 3-3 deadlock. Goal scorers included Stephanie Egre (2), Andrew Abberton (2), Melissa Bauer, and Kevin Zeit. No soccer next week in observation of Memorial Day. The following week, June 2, it's off to Plainview for their spring tournament.
Please Note:
We are sorry, but if articles are submitted handwritten and cannot be read we will only be able to post the scores for those games.

Sabercats 4 - Jericho 0
The Sabercats were waiting for the right opportunity to score and RoseAnn received the ball and put one into the net. The half ended with the score of 1-0. The midfield sent the ball up and RoseAnn made a nice cross to Stefanie who put it in with her left foot. The defense and midfielders kept Jericho away from its goal. Lauren sent a beautiful through pass and Stefanie connected for another goal. Nicole Davis then added the fourth goal with a powerful shot from outside the 18 yard line. Kudos to our goalies, Alicia and Stefanie.
Tigers 2 - Oceanside 1
The game started off changing possessions left and right and Ray Anderson almost scored off a breakaway. A penalty was committed on Oceanside players, resulting in a goal by Danny Wortley from the side of the box. He booted it over a wall of Oceanside players and the ball tipped off the goalie's fingertips. Nick Fishman played a great game in the net and saved many goals. As the half whistle blew, the score was Tigers 1, Oceanside 0. Oceanside scored halfway into the second half, tying it up 1 to 1. Shortly after, Andre Burnett scored on a breakaway assisted by Joe Mongone with the game-winning goal.
New York State Cup
Speedycats 0 - Mystic Minxs 3
Midfielders Colleen Holahan, Lauren Marra, Allison Ferrara, Diane McCormack and Samantha Selvaggio played aggressively and made passing play after passing play to our front line. Fullbacks Alicia Ezat, Denise Ingram and Alicia DeMarco kept pace with the speedy front line of the Minxs.
The second half the Speedycats showed signs of fatigue as the Minxs added to their score. The front line of Marylou Donavan, Kim Grammas, and Diana Amoroso nearly converted some great opportunities but the ball could not find the back of the net. Janelle Reif was solid in goal. Marie LaMaida get well soon we miss you.
Pumas 3 - Smithtown 3
Giovanni Palazzo got things started with a long range scoring strike from just outside the 18. Matt Siracusa converted a Joe Tempone pass to make it 2-0. Danny Goldberg added the third goal with the assist to Matt Warren. The half-ended 3-0. Injuries to Sal Costa and Chris Brewer. The Pumas held on for the tie. Seth Levine and Bobby Hugli both came up big. Chris Ganz had several great touches, playing almost every position on the field.
Pumas 0 - Massapequa 1
Joe Romano had the best game of his young career. Joe Tempone kept his steady play going. Sal Costa came back strong. Matt Warren was relentless. Christian Mejia had the best opportunity, with 30 seconds on the clock, but it just wasn't to be. Stephan Rigaud turned in a great game in net for the Pumas. Frankie Tloczkowski forced several good opportunities.
Snow Leopards 2 - Hewlett Blue Stars 0
The offense and defense totally dominated the game playing nearly 50 of the 60 minutes in the Hewlett end of the field. Jessica, Gina A. and Lauren gave the Blue Stars a taste of things to come. Jamie, Kim M., Tracie and Allison stepped in right behind and sent it back down the field. Kim S., Marielena and Ellen backed up the midfield so that any through balls were rocketed back up the field. Erin, Claire, and Gina M. helped to keep Hewlett backpedaling all day by their aggressive play.
The first score of the Snow Leopards came when Gina A. seeing a streaking Lauren up the sideline put the ball right in front of her and Lauren unleashed a bomb 25 feet into the net. The second score came when a hustling Gina M. found a loose ball in front of the net and lifted past the Hewlett keeper. Katie H. made some great saves while directing the defense and shut out Hewlett.
Lady Cougars 0 - Cold Spring Harbor 1
Super play by Allie Bresso kept CSH off the scoreboard. The Lady Cougars offense came alive with Teresa Feraro blasting two hard shots at the CSH goal. Nicole Denara made two back to back crosses to a charging Melissa Fulgenzi whose shots were just barely wide of the net. Sweeper Jessica Connaughton was rock solid in anchoring the Lady Cougar defense. The half ended with another incredible save by Allie Bresso. In the second half, the team stepped up their aggressiveness. Melissa Fulgenzi played a through ball to a streaking Stefanie Kovacic whose shot was stopped by a point blank save by the CSH keeper. Maria Mendieta seemed to be all over the middle of the field, winning loose balls and driving the attack. CSH could not find a way to score against the speed of Grace Costanza and Alison Luby at the back. Allie Bresso was unbeatable in the second half. The Lady Cougars came up one goal short.
Jungle Cats 5 - Long Beach Pirates 0
The game opened with midfielders Emily, Rhonda and Nicole getting to the ball first.
Our first point was scored by RM Rhonda who pulled a fast thinking switchoff with RW Grace, and pumped the ball into the net. Assist by CM Nicole and CF Ann Marie. Keeper JoAnne let nothing past, and her first goal clearing kick started a chain reaction which ended when the ball left Grace's right foot and tore into the right corner of the home team's net. Another assist by Ann Marie. With the score now 2-0, Kris Masci pounded the Pirates. Danielle Marra went in for LM and Michelle went in for RD, both kept up the moves. A rested RD Daniella was then able to come in to RM and duel with some of the biggest and strongest players and kept the game plan from wavering. Despite a painful blister, Emily returned to RM and kept the pace until the halftime whistle.
Jessica, who had played LD, now was smiling in goal while JoAnne attacked from RF. She put the first of her two goals into the net with a pass from Rhonda, and the eventually the second off of a Sweeper Andrea's corner kick. In between these two, Grace slammed one into the net from directly in front. Assist by Nicole, who with some help from Danielle, dominated the CM position.
Kris shifted from LF to RF and pounced away at their goal with great passes and another two near misses.
Tomcats 2 - RVC Renegades 0
The goals in this game were by Steve Lotti, who also helped us out in defense. The defense had a terrific game, these players included George Kouzionis, Chris Leung, and Matthew Provetto. Tommy Graziano had some strong drives to the goal. Peter Fabrizi maintained the shutout.
Stray Cats 4 - Hauppauge Magic 1
Simone Russo used her speed and tenacity to assist the sure footed Jessica Busardo for the first score of the day. Eight minutes later, Alison Fliegel supplied the game winner as our play maker Katie Mooney passed to Ali at the top of the box. Ali was triple teamed but hit a low shot past the keeper for the goal. Ali would add one more goal in the half on another well placed shot for a three to zero lead. Lauren DeSimone continues to be the model of consistency controlling the middle of play. Jessica Lippolis played an aggressive game and Viki Nikic added nice passing from right midfield. The Magic scored late in the second half but the Stray Cats answered back quickly. Nicole Southern stepped up from midfield to dribble past a defender and lead Katie with a pass that she neatly deposited.
