Doris E. Rogers, of New Hyde Park, died on May 2, 2001. Wife of Edward T. Mother of Douglas, Kevin and Edward. Sister of Warren Johnson and Eric Hahn. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, New Hyde Park. Mass of Christian Burial at Notre Dame RC Church. Interment Calverton National Cemetery.

Walter A. "Bub" McDougal, a popular and charismatic lawyer, banker, raconteur and father of 16, died at home at the age of 79, on May 10, 2001, after a brief illness. Mr. McDougal grew up in Lynbrook and spent his summers in Blue Point where he met and later married Dolores Gleason in 1946. He served his country as a navigator in the US Navy with the rank of lieutenant (jg). He attended Hofstra University and Brooklyn Law School where he graduated in 1948. He joined the law firm of Winne & McDougal and was made partner in 1950. In 1954, he moved to Garden City where he and his wife, Dolores, raised their seven children. He and his family summered for many years in Blue Point and Sayville. In 1970, he was elected president and CEO of Richmond Hill Savings Bank.

After Dolores died in 1972, he married Phyllis O'Connor in 1983 and with that union Bub became the stepfather to nine making him the father of 16. In 1988, he retired as chairman of the board of the bank and thereafter traveled the world.

Bub was active in many charitable, educational, civic, social and professional organizations throughout his adult life. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Anne's RC Church and long-time member of the Garden City Country Club, Nassau Country Club and Sayville Yacht Club. Among his accomplishments, Mr. McDougal, along with his brother Jerome McDougal, was inducted to the Sky Club. He was also "Man of the Year" from Adelphi University School of Banking and Money Management, the South Queens Boys Club and Helen Keller Services for the Blind. He was the past chairman of the Savings Bank Association of NYS. He also served on the board of directors of Mutual of America Insurance Company from 1990 to 1993 and since 1993 has served on the board of directors of Mutual of America Capital Management Corp. He also served for many years as a trustee of Jamaica Hospital and as general counsel and secretary to the board and he was on the board of trustees of Adelphi University School of Banking and Money Management.

Mr. McDougal, known to all as Bub, was best known for his gifted story telling, his poetry reciting, his talented toastmaster skills and his hilarious repertoire of jokes. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, boating and summers in Greenport. He recently lost Phyllis after a brief illness. He leaves behind 16 children, their spouses, 33 grandchildren and 53 nieces and nephews.

"Though he had a very successful career, perhaps his greatest success is that through his magnetic personality, his perpetual generosity and trademark sense of humor, he gained the love of many, the respect of his colleagues and the loyalty of his friends and family. This is Bub's legacy," said his daughter, Nancy Witter.

A Funeral Mass was held on May 14 at St. Anne's RC Church, Garden City. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, New Hyde Park.
