On Saturday, April 7, the State Bank of Long Island Padres played their opening game.

Strong fielding performances were given by Prabhat Yeturn, Nicholas Simcoli, Anthony Stacom and Sean Glbacella.

A good supporting offense was provided by a group of players who each hit 3 for 4. These players were Stephen Kennedy, Christopher Dunne, John Grzmalski, Dean Anderson, Thomas Curvand and Angelo Pepe.

Coaches Ray Simcoli and Jim Dunne were happy with these teams opening day performance.

Cardinals vs. Twins

The T.F. O'Brien Cardinals opened their season this morning with a defensive gem of a game. Sparkling defensive plays were made by both teams. Most notably for the T.F. O'Brien Cardinals were the plays of Johnny Mahon (catcher), David Luchino (pitcher), Thomas Perniciaro (right field) and Matthew Magenheim (left field). Matthew Dillon was superb at first base as were two lower farms players called up to fill in roster spots. Benjamin Hesse played well at second base as did Louis Simione in Center Field. Louis also had a fine day as did Michael Ali, both going 2 for 3 with an RBI. David Luchino went 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and Matthew Miller went 3 for 3 with 1 run scored and 2 RBIs.

Meldon Silverman's NHP Brewers won their season opener with good hitting and great fielding. Pitching debut's were made by Stephen Pelezzolo and Bobby Young. Sal, Patrick, Danny and Zack led the offense with key hits. Robert, Douglas, David, and Alexandar and Harris did a great job on the field. Kudos to all.

Pace Pharmacy 7 vs. Blue Jays 7

Well the 2001 Merillon is upon us and the Pace Pharmacy Blue Jays opened the season against the tough Delezia Rest Tigers. The teams played to a 7-7 tie in a nailbiter of a game. Both teams were stellar in the field and at the plate. Defensively the Blue Jays were led by Tom Cunningham, Shelvin Sam, Mike Jandovitz, Anthony Zammit and Michael Pucci with all boys turning in nice plays. Jordan Fox and John Ganz both had brilliant outings on the mound. Both boys pitched themselves out of tight jams. Neil Bisciello was awesome behind the plate. The hitting stars for the Blue Jays were Jordan Fox who knocked in the go ahead run in the top of the sixth. Also pitching in at the plate were Anthony Perrone, Jordan Buff, Thomas Fasano and Gabe Gonzalas. Keep up the good work Jays!

Caruso Barber Shop Reds 7 vs. H. Edwards Devil Rays 6

Great opening day game for the Caruso Barber Shop Reds. Their outstanding overall effort led to a game from behind win in extra innings. Great pitching by John Weitzel, Shane Mangin and Alex Nicolelis. Fine fielding by Stephen Contrada, Frank Bayerbach. Robert Carroll, Chris Ambrosio and Matt Deluca. Solid hitting by John Shane and Tony Peveraro whose home run secured their 7-6 win over the Devil Rays. Special thanks go to Kenny Richards and Stephen Phillips for their outstanding effort as great players.

Hillside Beverage vs. Citiline Florist A wonderful season opener for the Hillside Beverage girls against New Hyde Park Citiline Florist with spectacular fielding by Alli Pisciotta, Caitlin Fichtel and Lauren Jason. There were some great hits by Dolores Yovino, Emma McGrath and Alli Miceli. Gabriella Tagios and Madeline Saraceno showed their field presence behind home plate as catchers. Jaime Nizzo and Cecelia Bocker each gave us a hit when we needed it in the sixth inning. Good job Hillside Beverage.
