After an exciting tournament, we returned to our regular practice this week. The competition was fierce, as the final scores reflect.

The junior game wound up a 1-1 tie. Michael Raihl led the red team with a great goal. The white team came back with a team goal to secure the tie.

Our senior contest had a different result. Bobby Lee was the top scorer with two goals for the red team. Melissa Bauer was a dynamo on offense with several shots on goal. Debbie Chin was also a major contributor in the attack. However, the star of this game was Curt Walline. In addition to scoring one goal, Curt was a standout in goal. He stopped four different breakaways with diving blocks. The yellow team had its own stars. The midfield of Dan Downey, Charlie Lanza and James Torres made some super tackles on defense and turned around many charges by the red team.

Next week we travel to Plainview for the league's fall tournament. While we're not hoping for rain, we could use more clouds than sun since we don't have any hats to block the sunlight.

Lady Lions 9 - Wantagh 0

The lady Lions played a superior game against this Wantagh team. The Lions came out strong with the offense in total control of the Wantagh defense. Unfortunately, it seemed like an impossibility to stop the girls from scoring. Back passing and playing down didn't seem to work. Great defense by Brittany Schenke, Ariana DiCicco and Lisa Beatty. Meagan Kennedy was solid at midfield. Goals were scored by Danielle Sawicki, Jennifer LaMaida, Christina Cinelli and Alyssa Faller in the first half. The second half scorers were Keriann Simon, Dayna Obidenzo, Alyssa Fishman and Julianne Abel. Keriann Simon, Katie Palmer and even Danielle Sawicki record the shut out.

Lady Lions 4 - Levittown 0

The Lady Lions advance to the third round of State Cup. The offense was sluggish to start, but then we released the lions. First half goal was a beautiful shot by Jennifer LaMaida. Second half, the field was ours. Alyssa Faller punched one in on her own. Meagan Kennedy blasted one with an assist from Alyssa Faller. Jennifer LaMaida got the final goal with an assist from Kati Palmer. Great effort girls! We play on!

Alleycats 5 - East Meadow 2

The East Meadow Bandits thought they could come to NHP and casually stroll down one of our alleys but they were ambushed by the cats, the Alleycats. The Alleycats are known throughout Long Island as a team that plays with their hearts as well as their feet. It was evident as they dominated the Bandits.

It started when Brian M. scored first, Danny Rosenberg followed with another, John Dunlop the third and Danny scored two more to complete his hat trick.

Dave Cantor, Rob Trasolini, Stephen L., and Bryant Wolchok did a great defensive job. The defense has given up only four goals the entire season, two in this game. The Alleycats were victorious with this 5-2 win over the Bandits and remain undefeated in first Division. The Alleycats wish Dan Verbanac and Steven Kang a speedy recovery. We hope they will be able to join us and fully recovered for the spring season.

Lady Starcats 1 - Albertson Tigers 2

This was as close a game as you can get without ending in a tie. Our girls played a strong, spirited game against a tough Albertson team (last year this same Albertson team dominated us in a one sided game - what a difference a year makes). Our Cats scored first on a nice pass play from Meghan Houst to Erin Gilmartin who blasted in the go ahead goal. Our defense led by Caroline Romano and Jessika Wong, kept Albertson at bay. It was not until late in the first half that Albertson managed to knot the score when they won a fight for the ball in front of the net.

Our girls continued to play Albertson tough in the second half. Midfielders Nisha Ohri, Monica Soluri and Deanna Perniciaro controlled the ball and pushed it up to the forwards, helping to create scoring chances. Our Cats had their chances - Megahan & Erin almost combined for another goal - but time ran out before we could connect.

Kaitlyn Kennedy and Alison Monti alternated strong performances at keeper and fullback keeping our girls in the game.

This was a real good game. Well played by all. We just have to execute a little better, and the "wins" wil come! We have come a long way - this effort against Albertson was a night and day improvement from last year's - but we still have a way to go!

Lady Jaguars 2 - Hewlett Blue Magic 1

The Lady Jaguars reeled off their 10th straight win of the fall season by beating Hewlett 2-1.

The first half was dominated by our girls in the offensive zone. Firing missles at the Hewlett keeper, Maria Concilio, Amanda DiJanic, and Kirsten Fricione were robbed of goals.

In the second half the game was taken over by the Amandas. Amanda Zanetti banged in an early goal in the second half off an aggressive play by Leah Cantor. Lucia Giordano was sweeping aside all attempts by the Hewlett forwards. Sarah Kuehl's indirect found Amanda DiJanic who banged in the winning goal.

Pamela Fiorillo, Jennifer Spota and of course Lauren "The Stopper" Baumann were winning any loose walls.

In this incredible run of 10 straight wins, our girls have scored 24 goals and allowed just three.

Laura Papalexis has been outstanding in goal.

Lady Jaguars 2 - East Islip Strikers 0

The Lady Jaguars continued their rampage through Division 3 winning their fifth straight league game and 11 straight win in the fall, beating E.I. at a score of 2-0.

Sarah Kuehl blasted in the game winning goal in the first half off a pass from Lauren Baumann but the play was set up by Lucia Giordano's end to end rush by her sweeper position. Amanda DiJanic who scored a goal off a beautiful corner by Sarah Kuehl.

The final score of 2-0 was just the end result of fine play.

Lauren Stacom and Elizabeth Montreuil were creating offensive chances with their aggressive play from the back. Lauren Baumann was steady at stopper. Alyssa Friedman and Sam Robbins had their best game of season getting shots on goal. The name of the game girls is put the ball in the net!

Aristocats 2 - North Babylon Fusion 4

The Aristocats played a solid game as a team against a quality opponent. The Aristocats jumped out to an early lead when Melissa Fulgenzi made a beautiful through pass to an onrushing Diana Cotilletta who finished the play with style. Under some heavy pressure from the N. Babylon attack, the standout defensive play of Alicia Ezat and Heather Grant kept the score close. By the beginning of the second half, our midfield of Ashley Felcon and Lauren Marra took charge of the middle third of the field. Marissa Lazo made a great individual effort to drive home the tying goal with a gorgeous shot. Alyson Bader stepped up to play some aggressive defense, while Suzie Jozkowski made several nice drives to keep the pressure on the N. Babylon keeper. Danielle Losonci had a great game, controlling our entire penalty box. Aristocat spirits got crushed by a pair of late soft goals.

Lady Tigers 5 - Oceanside Revolution 0

For the second time in two weeks the Lady Tigers soundly defeated the Oceanside team and did so with a solid team performance. Each of the five goals were scored by a different player. The big blue's offense came early in the first off a scripted corner kick play to Marion Delepena who cunningly crept upfield from center defense to accept a perfect inbound pass from Jaime Bourazeris and send it over the keepers head for the score. That would be all the team would need, but the Lady Tigers added more goals by Nicole Cavelaro (on a rebound off the post), Ali Timpano (assisted by Raquel Cantu), Jaime B. (assisted by Ali T.), and Domanie Kokkoris (assisted by Debra Prevete). The Lady Tigers almost scored a couple on some strong shots from Catie Loskofsky which missed by inches. Goalkeeper Lyndsey DeSarbo recorded her 22nd team shut out thanks to some terrific defensive support from the left footed boot of Caitlin Gracia and the tackling excellence of Denise Prevete.

Sunday's State Cup Result

Lady Tigers 7 - Hauppauge Ruffians 0

The big blue scoring machine was again in overdrive while the big blue wall put the brakes on any attack as the NHP team advanced to the next round in the State Cup. Team rookie Domenique Carusone scored the first goal of her hat-trick early in the first half. More scores soon followed from Nicole C., Ali T., Domanie K., two more from Domenique C. and the icing on the cake by Debra P. Assists were credited to Nicole C (2), Catie L., and Jaime B. The defensive player of the game was Francine Leung who consistently pounded the ball back upfield whenever the Ruffians tried to mount any pressure. Lyndsey D. and Ali T. shared keeper responsibilities and combined for another team shut out.

Jaguars 4 - Bethpage 0

Fantastic game by all the Jaguars, totally dominating the game against a very strong Bethpage team. Total team effort, everyone's heads were into the game. Unselfish playing by the Jaguars led to goals by Stephen Rampulla, Danny Corriea (2), and Phillip Zysopoulos with assists from Jason Fishman, Danny, Stephen. Spectacular defensive efforts by Jimmy Catapano, Chris Jaronczyk, Michael Marrano and Aldo Alleva, helped goalies Chris Fabrizi and Tom Kennedy record another shutout. Both goalies had to come up big and they did. Midfielders Vinny Timpano, get better soon, Chris Tamulonis, Stephen Gilory and Tom Rowinski played the best two way soccer of the season. Jaguars, stay focused on teamwork, passing and playing hard for 70 minutes. Great first half of the season, let's keep it up Jaguars.

Lady Pumas 2 - Huntington 0

The Lady Pumas came out today on the soft side and they were unable to impose their game from midfield up. The defense with Teri, Tracie and Jessica S. came out big during that period. Toward the end of the half, after Maria had hit the cross bar, Sabrina's well placed free kick gave our girls the 1-0 lead.

In the second period we saw a new team on the field, dominating the opponent. Maria's volley increased the lead and another 4 05 converted chances could made a more uneven score. Evelin and Alex showed their skills in midfield while Puja was a permanent threat on the left wing. Allison closed out her flank giving no chances to her opponent.

Good game, especially in the second half, Ladies. Let's keep it up!

Stray Cats 3 - Cold Spring Harbor Rhinos 2

Today's game was about as exciting as a soccer game can get as the Stray Cats never trailed in an exciting three to two victory. Keri Lippolis put the team up first as she battled down the right wing to record her first goal of the day. Nice midfield play by Megan Stevens, Alison Fliegel, Lindsay Rella and Jessica Lippolis were the reason the Stray Cat's offense was on first the first half. The Rhino goalie had a habit of coming way out of net and the Stray Cats forwards soon found a way to take advantage. Jessie Busardo and Michele Galante used their speed to bring the goalie out of position. Michele crossed a ball by the keeper and Keri once again used her speed and smart play as she dashed in front of the goal to notch her second score. The Rhinos are an experienced team and refused to give up. A second half score brought the Rhinos within one. Beth DeMarco and Nicole Southern stepped up the defense late in the half. Keeper Vicki Nikic played with confidence and stepped up in the half to make big saves. Left wing Mary Hess who's passing the first half helped the attack, blasted a goal in the second half for what would prove to be the game winner.

Cougars 4 - Elmont Rapids 1

Once again, Cougars came out playing tough and as a team showing off their excellent offensive and defensive skills. Excellent play by Paul Hyat, Frankie Bott, Conrad Tenenbaum, Kenny Zask, David Mintz and Kyle Scheider. Goals scored by Billy Fincke, Chris DiCicco, Dann Reilly and Peter Marson. Good goalkeeping by Andrew Merrick. The way to go Cougars!

Thundercats 1 - East Islip 1

After a terrific three goal come from behind victory last week against first place Hewlett, our girls traveled to East Islip. Having dominated the first 20 minutes, Rebecca Heinemann hit the upper right cross bar but their goalie controlled the rebound. We found ourselves down 1-0 at half but our girls refused to give up. The second half began with tremendous East Islip offensive pressure but solid defense and communication among fullbacks Lindsey Cilia, Paige Darby and Dena Wlodarczyk, together with support from sweeper Jenna Peneraro, was superb. Coupled with many saves by keeper Allie Antman East Islip was held scoreless in the second half. Our scoring opportunity was set up by a beautiful pass from halfback Colleen Marino to Maria Saitta. Maria's breakaway was spoiled as she was mugged from behind in the 18 meter box. A penalty kick ensued and Elise Messina rattled it off the left goal post and into the back of the net. Way to go Thundercats. Next week, Baldwin enters our home turf.

Saber Cats 0 - Farmingdale 2

The Saber Cats did not have a good game against Farmingdale. The Saber Cats defense played tough in the first half without letting in any goals. However, Farmingdale managed to score two goals in the second half. Hillary Depowski, Christina Bognacki, and Lauren Muskin didn't make it easy for Farmingdale to score their goals. They played good defense.

Farmingdale's defense completely stymied the Saber Cats offense. They beat the Saber Cats to the ball and did not allow many shots at their goal. Danielle Cass and Cristina Cannella tried to move the ball on offense. At midfield, Stefanie Russotto and Alison Stern had a good game. Maiken Bursig played goalie for most of the game and played well.

Tigers 3 - RVC 1

The Tigers dominated this game from beginning to end with a solid team effort to win 3 to 1. The goals were bunched together in the first half as Ray Anderson opened the scoring by banging home a nice cross from Rich Caridi. Dan McHugh and Rich Caridi then scored back to back near the end of the first half to seal the deal. Many players had great scoring chances, including Allen Williams, Luigi Muto and Dylan Mayer. Excellent two way hustle by Sean McGonigle, Nick Fishman, Joe Mercadente and Andre Burnett. Everyone contributed to this one!

Speedy Cats 1 - East Meadow Cyclones 1

Speedy Cats came out determined to win today. They were at the ball first every time. Good hustle by Diane McCormick, Angela Cass and Kim Grammas. Excellent shots on goal by Nicole Thomas, Mary Lou Donovan, Jen Fabian and Cassie Green. Although the game was reffed one-sided, Marie Lamaida came back with an awesome goal that stunned the Cyclone defense. Denise Ingrum, Ali Ferrara, Ali Strausberg, Jess Galante and Colleen Holahan played good defense. Janelle Reif in her magical goalie shirt saved the game for the Speedy Cats. Sam, feel better next week, we need you. Thanks to our amazing coaches and wonderful parents for a great game.

Stormcats 4 - Bohemia Blast 2

The NHP Stormcats continued its race to first with a very convincing blowout of the Bohemia Blast 4-2.

The scheduled liftoff was played at the new Harbour Links soccer fields in Port Washington. It is truly a magnificent field.

NHP started its mission when Chris Dijanic shuttled the ball across to Joe Marrano who launched in a shot from a tough left angle. Chris Sawicki eclipsed the defense with feed to Alex Neystated who scored. Score at half NHP 2 - Bohemia 0.

Some of our crew members overheard the Bohemia coach saying, "Houston we have a problem." The second half started with Joe Incalcatera boosting the ball to Chris Dijanic who put the ball into orbit for our third goal. Dan Duras then fed the ball to Joe Marrano who hit an asteroid for his second goal of the contest.

The engineers of this launch was again the defense, playing flawlessly the last couple of games, led by Justin Brobst, Robby Kassoff, Robby Morici, Christian Uy, Michael McHale and John Yom there was no aborting this mission. Eric Andreuzzi blasted the blast back to Bohemia (and their one hour ride home) with his usual thunderous punts into another galaxy.

Well done boys.

Pumas 0 - East Meadow 1

Pumas 4 - Jericho 1

Both teams are tough through the entire game. You knew from the beginning it was going to be by one play that would determine the game, and the East Meadow team got that play. A good and tough played game by both. Well, as Coach Joe says, "Now let's turn the page," as the Pumas did and took on the Jericho in the next state cup round. Another well played game by both teams. Outstanding goaltending by Chris Ganz and Giovanni Palazzo. The Jericho put the goal in first. This did not stop the determination of the Pumas. Stevie Mastrandrea put in the first goal from the beauty pass of Joe Tempone. Matt Siracusa gets a pass from Bobby Hugli and just breaks away and sends it home! Matt Warren adds two to the scoring. What else, but the solid "D" of the Pumas did the job again - Chris Brewer, Seth Levine, Sal Costa and Michael Howard. Rumor had it that Brewer and Levine somehow got up on forward to have some fun! Frankie Tlockowski gave Jericho's goalie a run for his money. Add that to terrific two-way play by Danny Goldberg and Chris Kassoff to finish off another team win.

Mountain Lions 2 - Valley Stream Dragons 1

The Mountain Lions slayed the undefeated Dragons in a hard fought battle. Makis Konstantatos struck first off a well-placed crossing pass from Ed Daly. Robby Martines, playing center forward, blasted home a goal from just inside the box. Eric Wendt and Michael Riccardi played their best game of the seaon at midfield. Paul Roantree overcame injuries and played a tough gritty game. Danny Santarsieri finally got over the Mets' loss and played a hard game, battling in the corner for every loose ball. As usual, Johnny Coster put up a wall in front of the net.

State Cup Game 10/24

Mountain Lions 0 - Asphalt Greenwave 3

Playing a bigger team which has been together for three years, the Mountain Lions stepped up to play their best game of the season. The boys showed themselves to be a skilled and determined soccer team. They gave it everything they had, including their hearts and bodies, right up to the final whistle. The Greenwaves may have won the game, but the boys from New Hyde Park won the respect of everyone at the field. Great job!

Jungle Cats 1 - Plainview/Old Bethpage Sharks 2

Jungle Cats Bested by One Goal

The Jungle Cats went into the game determined to top the Sharks for a second time this month, after a 1-0 contest at the Brentwood Tourament [more to come on that] locking up a third place.

Without many players and subs, Daniella Sacino made three dangerous stops during the first half. Together with stoppers Pallavee Panchal and Christine Toth, Andrea Neto swept the center area, passing out to Nicole Halpern and Rhonda Albaneze. Theonly two goals scored by the other team were both made with Danielle's hands already on the ball. Christine settled into her position and began judging all remaining attackers for some great steals and kicks back to her waiting forwards. Ann Marie Puma had a near miss from the top of the box. At halftime, we had our work cut out for ourselves.

In the second half, Kristina Masci and JoAnne Montoni shared left wing and made the best of it - with a penalty kick from JoAnne, Nicole DiSimone powered it into the Shark's net with her left foot to put the Jungle Cats within one. Shannon Lovisi had a number of drives from mid-field, only to settle for some near misses for her, Rhonda and Ann Marie. Kudos to the Jungle Cats for dominating the ball in the second half against such a physical team.

Cheshire Cats 3 - Ronkonkoma 0

The Cheshire Cats put everything together for a 3-0 win over Ronkonkoma. The game displayed fine defensive play by Athena Chen and Miriann Varghese. It displayed fine goaltending by Eileen Hunt and Danielle Young. Mostly it displayed excellent passing and the ability to take advantage of scoring opportunities despite a good goalie in net against us. We started the scoring on a throw in from deep in the opponent's zone. Danielle's long throw literally hit an opponent in front of their goal and bounced in. The second goal was more traditional as Michelle LaBarbera set up Katie Warren who blasted a shot past the keeper. We closed the scoring when Stephanie Chen netted from the back post one of Kara Beardsley's corner kicks. Kara's corners were beautiful in this game. Also, this was Stephanie's second goal of the year on the same play.

Despite the result, great efforts were put in by Paulo Rodrigues in goal making some great saves, and by the defense led by hustling Anthony Sacino, Anthony Fini, Jonathan Ramos. Midfielders Christopher Shing, Mario Grosso and Carl Calabro won the ball consistently and pushed it up to forwards Steve Tomasik, Patric Johnson and Brian Bravo creating scoring chances. Diamonds 0 - Double Trouble 1

Home team comments: The Diamonds held the powerful Double Trouble team to only one goal with great defense by Valerie, Katherine, and Diana. Lauren and Aileen made some outstanding saves in goal. Marissa and Jessica fought hard to win the ball in the midfield all game long.

Visitor comments: Defense seems always to play second fiddle to the offense. The glory goes to the scorers. I contend that to play defense a special mindset and courage are required. This game was a defensive gem, showcasing the courage and desire of both teams. If not for the rocket of a shot by Juliann Glassheen this game would have ended in a 0-0 tie. With tremendous respect I praise the play of Brittany Trumpy, Kimberly Kinch, Alex Vigliarolo, Jessica Egre, Allison Tripptree and keeper Michelle Vias who had three saves and directed the defense to perhaps their finest game. Coming along beautifull at left wing is the play of Kara Innella and Christine Cuestas.
