Last week the Sewanhaka Central High School Board of Education held a hearing, followed by its general meeting, at the New Hyde Park Memorial High School for residents to hear the proposed plans for the Alva T. Stanforth school. The Sewanhaka Central High School is the last of only two central high school districts on Long Island and includes the high schools located in New Hyde Park, Floral Park, Franklin Square and Elmont. Last weekend, attorney Thomas Liotti pushed for an injunction against the planned aerial spraying of Anvil, a pesticide substitute for Malathion, a neuro-toxin. State Supreme Court Justice Leonard Austin ordered the county to prove its spraying efforts were legal Monday at 2 p.m. and stopped the county from conducting spraying before that time. FULL STORY
