The Aristocats roamed to the beautiful hills of Connecticut to display some geat soccer in capturing their division championship with a record of 5-0.
Game 1
Aristocats 8 - Madison 0
In their first game of the tournament, the Aristocat offense was in high gear with some beautiful crosses leading to goals. Diana Cotilletta had the hat trick in this game, one goal she drilled directly in on an incredible corner kick. Ashley Felcon had two pretty goals in the first half, with other scores coming from Jennifer Fabian, Lauren Marra and Theresa Piliero. Melissa Fulgenzi showed her versatility with some spectacular playmaking from the midfield position.
Game 2
Aristocats 8 - Hamden 0
The Aristocats knew they were in for a different kind of game against the home team from Hamden. The first few minutes were played evenly with our defense holding the fort led by the play of Alicia Ezat, and Ali Art. A well placed corner kick by Ashley Felcon was touched in by a waiting Suzie Jozkowski. Suzie drove home a nicely angled shot which opened the scoring floodgates. Alicia DeMarco, Theresa Piliero, Lauren Marra and Jennifer Fabrian contributed goals. Standout defensive play came from Alyson Bader, while Danielle Losonci notched her second shutout of the day in the net.
Game 3
Aristocats 5 - Naugatuck 1
The Aristocats picked up where they left off with some classy passes and aggressive defensive play. Suzie Jozkowski jumpstarted the offense with the first score, and made a nice assist to Jennifer Fabian who deftly placed the ball in the back of the net. Throughout the weekend the team received some quality midfield play from Lauren Marra who scored the third goal and Diana Amoroso who made a pinpoint pass to a rushing Suzie Jozkowski for the next goal. A beautiful left footed cross from Melissa Fulgenzi to Theresa Piliero completed the scoring for the team.
Semifinal
Aristocats 3 - HBC 2
Facing a talented team from HBC in the semis, the Aristocats knew they had to continue their smart team play. First half play was basically even, with both teams having few good chances. Ashley Felcon changed that with a longshot with four minutes left in the half. Suzie Jozkowski poured it on with a well placed blast with just two minutes left. Our strength in the middle of the field with Alicia DeMarco and Ali Art held the HBC team scoreless. In the second half, Suzie Jozkowski scored on a nice assist from Ashley Felcon with just two minutes gone by. HBC showed their mettle and class by battling back with two nice goals to make it an exciting final 10 minutes. An incredible effot by midfielders Diana Cotilletta and Lauren Marra kept the ball under Aristocat control as time ran out.
Finals
Aristocats 5 - South Huntington 0
Playing their third game of the day in plus 90 degree heat, the Aristocats limped into their final against the undefeated team from S. Huntington. Emily Ocner took charge of the game early with some energetic play at midfield, she fought and scrapped for every ball, scoring the first goal. Our defense was the star of the first half with some incredible tackling by Alicia DeMarco and Alicia Ezat. Danielle Losonci made several incredible saves in the first half to hold the shutout. Alison Luby continued her tough as nails defensive play in the second half. Second half goals by Suzie Jozkowski, Ashley Felcon, Diana Cotilletta and Jennifer Fabian sealed the victory in a game which was much closer than the final score.
The Aristocats went home champions with five wins, including three shutouts for keeper Danielle Losonci. Every girl on the team played well and contributed to the team's success. It's nice to win, but it's even greater to play quality soccer over a weekend. We also enjoyed the opportunity to share the fun at the amusement park and the late night dinner for 36. We left Connecticut exhausted, but exhilarated from a wonderful weekend of soccer and team spirit.
The Firecats put on a dazzling display of complete soccer, parlaying speed and finesse with toughness and, occasionally, ferocity. The result was an undefeated, untied and practically unscored upon run, good enough to take home the first place trophy.
Firecats 3 - Sachem Indians 0
The Firecats started cautiously, taking no chances while sizing up their opponent. Midway through the first half, a booming corner kick from Staci Scianablo eluded the Sachem keeper, causing a defender to reflexively grab it. Jen Mason converted the ensuing penalty kick to put the Firecats on the board. The offense opened up in the second half, with Nicole Lippolis and Staci denting the twine. Meanwhile, the defense, anchored by Lauren Ratafia, Jen Baumann and Eleni Roulis was impenetrable. Janette Antic pitched the shutout in goal.
Firecats 6 - Mineola Angels 0
Another careful opening half for the Firecats, with Nicole notching the only tally off a nice change of field from Mary McFarland, as the team minded its defensive end. The second half was quite a different story, with the Firecats' front seven frequently resembling an avalanche, as they overran all obstacles in their path. Booming throw-ins from Christine Maluion, and pinpoint passes from Molly Herrick in the midfield supported an offensive juggernaut which saw Jen Mason (two goals, to go with two assists), Melissa Suarez, Ali Hintz and Mary all strike pay dirt.
Firecats 4 - Albertso Raptors 0
D- (as in Dinosaur) Day began with a matchup against some familiar faces. Albertson forced the play early on, but the Firecats defense was up to the task and soon the tied turned. Jen Mason, who had a fabulous tournament, scored twice more, once on an assist from Staci. In the second half, two booming goals by Janette Antic, the second practically from the midfield line, gave the Firecats plentyof breathing room.
Firecats 1 - Rockville Centre Raptors 0
Another set of Raptors lay in wait for the Firecats and these proved to be a somewhat tougher breed. The tense first half ended with no score. Fine anticipation by Lindsay Martin cut off numerous attempted Raptor forays. Molly, at keeper, was at the top of her game. Although not tested often, she was called on to make several quality saves to keep the Firecats in the game. Finally, after miscellaneous posts and crossbars, Jen Mason found the net, allowing the Firecats to post their fourth consecutive victory.
Firecats 2 - Commack Diamonds 1
Although perfect through four games, the Firecats had only a two point lead in the standings, and a loss in the final game would have knocked them from their first place perch. Fittingly, it was the homestanding Diamonds, in second place and also undefeated, who provided the last obstacle. Five games in three days had taken its toll on the Firecats' short roster and several of the girls played with injuries. The Firecats took the early lead when Nicole set up Melissa nicely for a score. The game then settled into a fierce, physical struggle, with both squads engaging in some serious banging. Early in the second half, a nice play on a 50-50 ball gave Commack a breakaway, which they converted to tie the score. Although undoubtedly stunned to have surrendered a goal for the first time all weekend, the Firecats defense dug in. Eleni, Jen Baumann, Christine, Janette, Mary, Lauren, playing on one good leg, and Molly slammed the door on the Diamonds. Although a tie would have been good enough, the team refused to settle for one and, in the final minute, one last terrific play by Jen Mason sprung Ali on the left wing. Sprinting by the last defender and cutting toward the goal, Ali unleashed a top-corner rocket that clinched the victory and the unblemished championship. Congratulations to all on a marvelous effort.
The Lady Jaguars played in the U-14 flight in the Randolph Invitational Tournament in NJ. Winning three games and losing one, outscoring their opponents 8 to 2 and capturing second place.
Game 1 - Lady J's 1 - New Rochelle Stingers 0
Game 2 - Lady J's 1 - Roxbury Lightning 2
Game 3 - Lady J's 5 - Sparta GIB 0
Game 4 - Lady J's 1 - Randolph Strikers 0
In the opening match on a perfectly manicured field our girls came ready to play. After a scoreless first half Amanda DiJanic's aggressive play and pass allowed Kristen Fricione to bang in the game winner. Lauren Baumann, Stefanie Weitzel, Heather Burkey and Lucia Giordano were too quick for New Rochelle's forwards and thus our girls revenged a shoot-out loss in the Northport tournament.
Game 2 was a classic. Roxbury Lightning at the end of the tournament were the champions, outscoring their opponents 17-0, but our Ladies came to play. Lauren Baumann's first half rocket that landed in the net for a 1-0 halftime lead. But this battle began in the second half. Meaghan Dolce, Elizabeth Montreuil, Meghan Pate and Samantha Robbins were using all their skills to hold off our opponents. Roxbury tied the score off a pretty play but the true star to this game was Laura "The Keeper" Papalexis making two spectacular saves which they were talking about at the hotel all night. A late goal by Roxbury with three minutes left gave them the victory.
The opening game on Sunday vs. Sparta was very successful as Heather Burkey's two goals, Lucia Giordano, Leah Cantor and Stefanie Weitzel's goals allowed the Lady J's with a 5-0 victory. Maria Concilio and Jennifer Spota had a few unlucky shots on goal.
In the last game with second place on the line our girls, led by Meaghan Dolce and Lauren Baumann would not be denied. Sam Robbins and Amanda Dijanic led the attack up front. Elizabeth Montreuil, Kristen Fricione, Stefanie Weitzel and Lucia Giordano were relentless on defense winning all loose balls. As the second half began, Maria Concilio, Jenny Spota and Leah Cantor were pushing the ball up field, when Meghan Pate's outside the box blast sailed into the net for the game winner. Laura Papalexis provided another shut-out and our girls came away looking like champions with second place trophies.
Fabulous tournamnt - keep up the good work girls!
For the second time in two seasons the Stray Cats captured third place at the Manalapan, New Jersey Memorial Day Tournament. With the exception of the final game of the weekend, the team played sound soccer in compiling a two wins, one tie one-loss record. Despite the fact we finished with an identifical record of the second place Monomouth Spiders, the Cats had to settle for third on a tiebreaker. Jessica Busardo accounted for four goals in four games despite being marked by two players most of the weekend. Megan Stevens played right midfield like a point guard plays in basketball. Her positioning of players as play develops and pinpoint passes bring a whole new dimension to the offense. Ashley Campson booming goal kicks and well placed free kicks kept the opposition on their toes. Nicole Southern was assigned to guard the fastest forwards of our opponents and it was a familiar site to see her come up with the ball. Lauren Castilla strong play in game two was a big factor in come from behind tie in a tough game two. X'ania Saldana solid work in the net was a big key as the Stray Cats only allowed three goals in three games. Beth DeMarco anchored the defense and showed that she is not just a defensive player as she had numerous shots on goal in game three. Alyson Rose's tournament typified her season marked by consistency and her ability to come up with big plays. Lauren DeSimone's (one goal) contribution to the team's success cannot be measured in just goals. Lauren had a huge game two playing stopper and her ability to be in the center of a developing play make her a big part of the Stray Cat team. Lindsay Rella's aggressive play from midfield was a big factor as the Stray Cats dominated game one with sound defense. Kristina DiCostanzo (two goals) showed she could provide offense from both sides of the field. Viki Nikic played half of the games in goal and half at the stopper position. Viki took control of game two and her second half play in the net was a big key in allowing the Stray Cats to come from behind as she controlled the tempo of the game. Alison Fliegal had a huge tournament scoring a total of seven goals. Her goal in game two was a rocket that tied up the game with minutes left and her two goals in game five were all the offense the Stray Cats could muster against a tough Parsippany team. Mary Hess showed her versatility and importance to the team providing strong minutes from all positions except goalie. Michele Galante's (one goal) speed and her constant pressure on the opposition's goalies put our opponents on a state of panic the entire weekend. The Stray Cats didn't finish first and we didn't finish second but we did accomplish what we set out to do. That was to play some good sound soccer and to have a good time doing it. Just remember the Waldbaum's finals and a chance to be division champs is still within our reach. Let's go Stray Cats!
The Bengals played very well with the rough competition and the heat to deal with this weekend. The boys worked hard together as a team to keep them in this tournament. Goals were scored by Matt (4, and one assist), Pete Z. (1 and four assists), John K. (3), Christian (3), Greg (1, and one assist), Ryan C. (1), Seb (3), Fernando (1), and Chris Sawicki had two assists.
Chris Lang, Tom Jelcic and Tom Heller kept feeding the forwards throughout the games giving all the opportunities for the scoring to happen. John Moffa and Ryan Leung were solid in defense making the opponents have a tough time scoring on the Bengals.
Chris S., Tom H. and Tom J. also played goalies during the weekend all doing an excellent job for the team. The boys had a great weekend and lots of fun and proved themselves again as a well skilled aggressive team.
The Lady Leopards participated in the 15th Annual RAMS Tournament in Randolph, New Jersey. In four contests; they won one and tied one; good for a third place finish. On the first day, playing shorthanded, the Cats opened with a 1-1 tie with New Rochelle before being beaten by the eventual tourney winner, Sachem, 5-0. Things got a little better the second day. The Lady Leopards started with a heart breaking 2-1 loss to Denville but rebounded to trounce host Randolph 6-0.
The Cats featured a balanced scoring attack. Whitney Blake and Katherine Hock each scored a pair of goals. Cathy Caballero, Alison Papalexis and Jackie Hazel each scored one. Andrea Hiebler successfully converted a penalty kick. Midfielders Diana Buccella, Samantha Didriksen, Lauren Lidowsky and Lauren Spota, were the catalysts. They triggered the offense with pinpoint passing. Kim Krakauer orchestrated a strong defensive effort. Michelle Colletti and Patti Leahy were solid in goal.
In the scorching heat of Memorial Day weekend, the Jaguars fought hard, fought tough and came away with three wins, one tie and only one loss. The weekend started slowly witha loss to East Islip (1-4) and this game was closer than the score indicated, the boys would like to play that one again. Second game we crushed South Merrick (3-1) but lost the services of our guest player Joe Marrano who was fitting in and playing hard/smart soccer. Third game was the hardset, as Lake Grove was relentless but the Jaguars preserved (1-0). Fourth game was the showdown with Smithtown (2-0), although this was no gimmie, the second goal midway second half was like a cool breeze on a hot day. Last day, game five, Bellport, a worthy challenge, pushed the Jaguars to the limit and the game ended in a tie (1-1). I would like to thank Aldo Alleva, Robert Bridges, Jimmy Catapano, Daniel Correia, Chris Fabrizi, Stephen Gilroy, Tom Kennedy, Michael Marrano, Chris Raulli, Thomas Rowinski, Vincent Timpano, Phillip Zysopoulos for all the effort and hard work that was put in. A special thanks to Joseph Marrano who gave it his all and still came to cheer on the team even though he could not play the final three games. Keep up the hard work Jaguars.
The Magic Cats traveled to Philadelphia and enjoyed a fun filled weekend.

With the game tied, with time running out Mike Makowenskyj found the net to earn our victory. Our defensive wall of Mike Nathan, John Fini and Patrick Carton kept their opponents in check. Super goaltending by Steve Stallone.

Congrats, girls.
