Having been involved in volunteer and community life for over 20 years, it is our belief that when looking at candidates for elective office it is necessary to look at the overall "package." Involvement, accomplishments and attitude are major criteria for selecting a candidate. Currently, there are four individuals running for two seats in the Herricks Board of Education. Two of these individuals, Christine Turner and Peter Grisafi have been involved, have contributed a great deal to the Herricks school community and both possess a positive attitude toward the future. They are individuals who are capable of seeing an issue as part of a large scheme and who can see the "forest through the trees." They are unselfish individuals who act responsibly with the concern for all when making decisions. It is a shame when candidates are attacked because of personalities rather than discussion of real issues confronting our school district. Both Chris and Peter have made difficult decisions over the years; these decisions may have been unpopular, but the decisions were based upon fact and belief rather than popularity. There have been times when we have not seen eye-to-eye on all matters, but diversity and independent thinking are qualities to look for in a school board member.
We believe that Pete and Chris are the most knowledgeable, experienced candidates in this election. They have spent the time working for our district: their time and energy have made for a better school district. The knowledge and insight they displayed at "Meet the Candidate Night" on May 4 demonstrated why they should be re-elected to the Herricks Board of Education.
We encourage you to vote for Chris Turner and Peter Grisafi on May 18 and ask that you encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same. Thank you!
