At the last meeting of the Parks Civic Association, a member of the Lockheed Task Force, appointed by the Town of North Hempstead, James McHugh, of New Hyde Park, reported that there had been a walk-through of the Lockheed property requested by the Village of Lake Success for elected officials of the village and the town. According to Town of North Hempstead representative, Ellen Markowski, another walk-through is being requested, by the town, for the members of the Task Force from New Hyde Park.

Other topics discussed at the meeting were the efforts put forth, so far, by the New Hyde Park Manor Oaks School Health & Safety PTA members to try to reduce the speed in front of the school from 40 m.p.h. to 30 m.p.h.

Both Connie Negron and Stephanie Regalbuto spoke about the project and the negative reception from the DOT. The Manor Oaks PTA is working very hard to try to make this a safer stretch of road for the children of New Hyde Park.

A community resident reported that a Day Care Center has been planned for 160 children and 25 teachers on Jericho Turnpike, opposite King Kullen. She said that the building is being built up to her property line and will have a major impact on her house and quality of life.

Since the project is within the confines of the Village of New Hyde Park, the resident was urged to go before the village board and discuss the problem, especially since there are new trustees that are being sworn into office next week.

A resident in the audience said that he had heard that a theater catering only to Indian films was going to be built in approximately the same area as the theater that was on that site years ago known as the Allen Theater. However, there was no confirmation that the rumor was true. President Mildred Tassone said she would try to find out from the Town of North Hempstead if in fact the rumor is valid.

The Annual Meeting of the Parks Civic Association will be held on April 21 at 8 p.m. at the New Hyde Park Memorial High School.
