Panthers 0 - Fusion 5
The Panthers suffered a tough loss. We could not seem to capitalize. Good midfield by Damien Sabatino and Michael Osorio. Good hustle by Ryan Rusoff and Alexander Corrado. Good defensive playing by Dan Naso, Matt Henderson and Danny Bravo.
Well played game team Fusion. Today's win was the result of teamwork from the keeper to the forwards. Mike Rocco (1) and Mike Oddo (1) both scored on nicely placed corner kicks from Jonathan DeFelice. Andrew Montoni again controlled the midfield with his constant hustle. Dan Lackner, Nick Rocco, Chris Kane, John Jozkowski and Jason Brenner (keeper) all played some solid soccer. Jonathan DeFelice had two goals with Robert Graziano finishing off the scoring with one more goal.
Impact 2 - Little Giants 1
The strong goalkeeping of Jesse Klinger and the determined defense of Paul Roantree led the Impact victory. The first goal was the result of fine team soccer. Starting at midfield, David Schulman passed the ball up to Ben Belmont who threaded a pass up the middle to Makis Konstantatos. Makis' shot was saved by the keeper, but an alert Michael Riccardi blasted home the rebound. Ben Belmont added a goal on a well-placed shot off the inside of the post.
Good effort by the whole team. Excellent goalkeeping from Jim Roth and Dan Romagnoli. Strong defense by Brian Stefanovic and Stephen Montoni with help from Adam Nicoletti. Goal by Ed Daly.
Hurricanes 1 - Rough Riders 0
Though down one man for the entire game, the Hurricanes managed to snatch a hard earned victory from the very tough Rough Riders. Again a terrific team effort. Lone goal scored by Mario Costa, assist by Captain Andrew Morici. Great defense by Derek Cheung, Eric Gerwatowski, Omar Ezat, Brian Biscotti and Alfio Russotto. Great game in goal by Patrick Strefaccio. Great pressure by Jimmy Clark.

Arsenal faced Express in a game that tested both teams' heart. The teams battled back and forth for the entire game. Ronak Amin claimed the midfield for Arsenal and the team rallied. Goals by Michael Santelesa and Eric Wendt gave us the lead. A beautiful banana kick by Joey Beltempo resulted in a goal that had all present cheering. Defense by Michael Wang and James VonDerLinn kept our end clean. Our keeper, Paulo Rodriguez, continues to be the toughest guy between the pipes.
Chicago Fire 3 - Crew 1
Another strong defensive outing exhibited by Patrick Nicoll, Anthony Fini and Daniel Rosenthal. Gabriel Gonzalez was superb in the keeper position. Matthew Uy's spot kick gave Chicago Fire the lead. Game captains Kris Kapela and Max Grant tallied one each to add to the lead. Alex Voskerijian had several opportunities up-front along with Patrik Sawhney. Pawan Sharma's relentless hustle in mid complemented the offense and defense. Great job guys ¬ enjoy your upcoming spring break.
Playing with no subs, the Crew found themselves in a hole after a penalty kick. The speedy Chicago Fire kept us scoreless most of the game, until a super goal off the foot of Tony Peveraro. Relentless pressure by the whole team, especially Nick Marrano and Vladimire Ivanoff who came up from the back just couldn't bring us even. The midfield of John Hunt, Michael Cracchiola, Robbie Martines and Tony Peveraro tied hard to close the gap. Desi Farrell played well in net again. Frank Fabiano, Lorenzo Posadas and Chris Taglich all put in a great effort as usual. Andrew Cohen ¬ heal up that finger fast, we miss you.

Kickcats 2 - Commack 0
After partying away late Saturday night, a very cold, windy and early Sunday morning game, the Kickcats opened up the season with a 2-0 win over Commack.
The first half was scoreless due to a very high wind, however, we opened up the second half with a beautiful goal by Amanda, assisted by Lisa. Ilana added our second goal after some fancy footwork in the midfield. Great stopping by Michelle and Kristina on defense and an all-around great hustle by Marissa. Congratulations Marielle! You proved to your teammates that you can play and dance. Keep up the good work, Kickcats!
Lady Pumas 2 - Lake Grove 0
Today, the Lady Pumas put on a fine demonstration of soccer association in Lake Grove, overcoming a physical team and their hostile group of fans.
The Ladies took control of play in midfield, where Madelyn coordinated the action with Rosemary M. and Evelin's help. As a result, Sabrina gave the girls the lead by the 30th, finishing Maria's initial shot. Five minutes later, Sabrina showed again her finishing touch by volleying over G.K. head and the 2-0 lead.
Lake Grove tried to react in the second half, but Monika and Christy frustrated their intents with their fine defensive play, while Meghan's quick raids kept opponent on the alert. Allison had a fine day in goal, with a handful of great saves, guaranteeing the shut out!
Great victory, Ladies! Great team effort! Keep it up!
Cougars 1 - Elmont 3
In a closely contested game, the Cougars lost to a strong Elmont squad. The Cougars fell behind early, but came on strong in the second half. A couple of excellent scoring chances just fell short of their mark. Lone goal scored by Ken Z. Excellent defensive play from Kyle S., Paul H. and Conrad T. Fine midfield control by Danny R., Patrick D., and Joe G. Good goaltending from Andrew H.
March 28
Cougars 3 - Lynbrook United 0
The Cougars came back from a tough loss on Saturday in the State Cup to post a convincing win against a strong Lynbrook team. All the boys played well on a cold, windy day. Great day for Kenny Z. as he scored his first "hat trick." Fine offensive support from Chris D., Brian C., Jonathan T. and Jesse W. Great defensive control from Mark R. and Jonathan S. Excellent goaltending from Andrew H.
The Lady Leopards battled Levittown and the elements and emerged victorious. It was their inaugural win of the season. The first half had the Cats playing into a strong wind. The Blue Diamond attack was consistently thwarted. Kim Krakeuer and Lauren Lidowsky anchored the defense. Cathy Caballero and Alison Papalexis excellent as marking backs. The defense bent but never broke. The teams were scoreless at the half. In the second half, with wind to their backs, the Lady Leopards mounted an awesome attack. Unfortunately, Levittown was up to the challenge. With five minutes remaining in the game, the Lady Leopards finally broke through. In the ensuing scramble after a corner kick, Christine Mikowski scored. Samantha Didrikson was the midfield catalyst. Jennifer Capasso and Laura Sasso turned in strong performances.
Saber Cats 1 - Merrick 0
In the first half both teams put up a tough defense and the first half ended scoreless.
In the second half, the Saber Cats defense, anchored by Christina Bognacki, Hillary Depowski, Cristina Cannella and Laura Galante, continued to play very well and did not allow Merrick to score a goal for the entire game. A good pass from Danielle Cass gave Maiken Bursig the opportunity to score the only goal of the game.
Nicole Davis also played well at forward and helped to keep the ball around the Merrick goal. At midfield, Courtney Campson and Jessica Fliegel put in a good game. Stefanie Russotto was goalie for the entire game and played well.
Firecats 2 - Clarkstown 2
(Firecats win on penalty kicks, 4-3)
Inspired effort by the Firecats against a talented and physical Clarkstown team. A wind-blown throw-in led to a breakaway and a 1-0 Clarkstown lead, but the Firecats answered immediately. On the restart after a handball, Janette Antic blasted the free kick to Staci Scianablo, who slammed the ball home to tie the score. The game then settled into a defensive struggle. Tough work by Eleni Roulis, Jen Baumann and Lindsay Martin held Clarkstown at bay, as regulation time ended. The Firecats fell behind in the initial overtime, but again roared back to tie when, for the second time in the young season, Staci netted a corner kick. A diving stop by keeper Molly Herrick sent the game into an excruciating set of penalty kicks. Christine Maulion, Jen Mason and Melissa Suarez all tallied for the Firecats in the initial round, but Clarkstown fought back to tie and had two chances to win in sudden death but could not convert. Finally, on the eighth shooter, Ali Hintz put the Firecats ahead to stay with a clever shot low to the corner and one more big save by Molly sealed the incredible victory.
Firecats 2 - Sachem Spears 2
Terrific league-opener for the Firecats, who took the play to Sachem all game long. Huge game for Janette Antic at center fullback. Eleni Roulis and Jen Baumann were also outstanding on the back line. Midway through the first half, the Firecats opened the scoring on a brilliant effort by Lauren Ratafia who, after beating two defenders, released a blast that was partially stopped by the Sachem keeper. Lauren then hurdles the prone goalie to finish the play. Later in the half, nifty pass work between Melissa Suarez and Nicole Lippolis, who had an outstanding game at wing, put the ball on the foot of Ali Hintz whose long drive nestled into the top corner. Without substitutes and facing a stiff wind in the second half, the Firecats played wonderfully in protecting their lead for 30 more minutes. However, fatigue slowed them a half-step in the last 10 minutes and Sachem took full advantage to forge the tie. Nonetheless, the high level of the team's play bodes well for the remainder of the season.
Lady Starcats 3 - Belleport Fire 2
Exciting hard play was featured in the contest which resulted in our girls securing a win in the first week of league play.
It was deja-vu as our Cats found themselves behind 1-0 at the half, just like last week. But true to form, our girls rose to the challenge and blasted in three goals within the first eight minutes of second half play to take the lead which was never relinquished. The tying goal came on a pretty play when Erin Gilmartin's pass found Deanna Perniciaro whose blast found the net. Minutes later Jessika Wong's pass found Erin who passed off to Meaghan Houst whose rocket shot made it 2-1. A few plays later Meaghan passed off to Jessika whose sizzling shot found the net. Our girls continued to dominate play as Chiara Imbriano just missed on several chances.
With less than 10 minutes to play our girls found themselves shorthanded due to injury and no subs. Thanks to a great defense led by Nisha Ohri and Caroline Romano, our girls hung on to win despite a late game score by the opposition.
Great game, girls! Great effort! Keep it up!
Lady Starcats 0 - Garden City Lazers 4
Tough loss as our girls were eliminated in State Cup competition. While our Cats played valiantly, the opposition, a Division 4 team, was much stronger and held the advantage.
Our girls did put in a brave effort and did not give up, despite the mismatch. Nisha Ohri and Jillian Herbst played hard at midfield, fighting for the ball and trying to create scoring chances. Jessika Wong and Chiara Imbriano played their hearts out trying to get the offense clicking. Defensively our girls had a tough day, but the play of Caroline Romano and Kaitlyn Kennedy just about shut down the Lazers in the second half. Kerianne Stein showed great versatility as stopper, forward and midfielder.
Don't let this loss discourage you, girls! We have advanced in the Waldbaum's Cup and have a whole regular season to look forward to.
Lightning Cats 0 - E. Meadow 4
The girls knew it would be a long day when we had to play with only 10 players. We put up a good fight, playing well for 50 minutes, when we ran out of gas. East Meadow scored three times in the last 10 minutes of play.
Marissa Azzato playing in her second game for the L. Cats was outstanding in goal. She helped keep the game close, making 15 saves and punting to midfield, putting us on the offensive immediately.
Katie Roth, Katelin Shea and Nicole Desimone did a fine job trying to stop E. Meadow. Samantha Selvaggio, Missy Southern and Colleen Grace ran the field well trying to control the game. Sarah Ricchuiti, Kim Grammas and Shannon Lovisi supplied our offensive pressure with a few nice shots on goal.
Girls, the effort today was excellent, the task was just too difficult.
The NHP Lady Tigers started off the outdoor season in a run and gun shoot-out battle at Fort Totten against the Bayside Hurricanes. With a 6-4 victory, the Lady Tigers showed that their balanced offensive attack ws ready to go. The team scored early with an assist from center forward Nicole Cavallaro to right wing Dana Hammer for the first goal of the season. Minutes later, Dana H. returned the favor to Nicole C. for a 2-0 lead. The NHP defense received outstanding play by Francine Leung and Dominie Kokkoris who were instrumental in keeping the ball in the Tigers possession in the first half, but some aggressive play by Bayside allowed the competition to tie the score by halftime. In the second half, Nicole C. took the ball deep to the right side then sent a crisp cross over the heads of the players to left wing Jamie Bourazeris who used her upper body to direct the ball into the open side of the net. Within minutes, Bayside took advantage of an interception and tied the score on a breakaway. The triple combo worked again for NHP with an assist from Ali Timpano to Nicole C. to Jamie B. gave the Tigers the lead to protect. To pressure the Bayside defense, Debra and Denise Prevete maintained a front-line offensive attack while Catie Loskofsky and Raquel Cantu battled for ball control and distribution upfield. To support the forward push, defender Marion Delepena ventured up the center and just missed a score on a stolen pass, but Dana H. followed through with a goal on the rebound. At 5-3, Bayside's star center again managed a breakaway but keeper Lindsey DeSarbo came out of goal and face-to-face with the striker to stop a hard shot and prevent any chance for the opponent to reverse momentum. Dana H. completed her hat-trick with another smart goal on a rebound off the post. Bayside's center added one more goal off her own rebound in the final minute, but the whistle blew seconds later and the Lady Tigers advanced.
Pumas 0 - Floral Park 3
A tough loss for the Pumas. The boys came out strong, playing a solid first half, giving up only one goal on a last second corner kick. The second half bounces just seemed to go the wrong way. Bobby Hugli and Chris Ganz were excellent in goal. Strong defense by Michael Howard, Sal Costa and Chris Brewer. With a few breaks, this game could easily have been a Puma win. Good offensive play by Stevie Mastranandrea, Matt Siracusa, Chris Kassoff and Matt Warren creating many chances, with shots that sailed just wide or high. Solid two-way play by Giovanni Palazzo, Joe Tempone and Seth Levine.
Lady Lynx 1 - Valley Stream Tornadoes 0
The Lady Lynx, on the rebound from a heartbreaking Waldbaum's Cup loss, took to the road for their first league game and responded with heart and character in a tough, physical, well played game, on both sides of the ball. It seemed through the first five minutes of this game that it would be all Lady Lynx and it would be only a matter of time until we broke through as Honor Adams dazzled the Tornadoes with footwork and Lora Tloczkowski just outran everyone in a Valley Stream jersey. The opposition hung tough and eventually turned the momentum in their direction, which started center-fullback Brigid Fee's day and she was awesome, combining smart play and booming clearing kicks she totally frustrated the V.S. attack.
Late in the first half the Ladies scored the only goal of the game as Michelle Contrada drove the ball to the top of the 18 box and passed to Jennifer Jung. J.J. then fired a shot, which was stopped by the V.S. keeper, but Adrianna Cavallaro, in perfect position, fired it home. Our girls would have to make this goal stand up for another 30 minutes and they rose to the task.
Tried as they could, V.S. threw all they had at the Lady Lynx in the second half and the Ladies stood tall, as they hung tough in a furious half of soccer. Our attack was thwarted on numerous occasions by excellent Tornado goalkeeping and by a pair of sturdy sidepipes, as our girls fired shot after shot on the Valley Stream net. On the other end, Caitlin Clark was absolutely super in goal as she withstood the V.S. barrage and stopped a Valley Stream breakaway late in the game with a beautiful sliding save.
This was a super win for the lady Lynx and after all ws said and done there were far more smiles than bruises and icepacks.
Lady Jaguars 1 - Rockville Centre Rush 3
The Lady Jaguars' amazing run in the State Cup which saw them make the finals in 1997 and win the State Challenge Cup in 1998 came to an end in the second round of the open cup by the score of 3-1 by a solid division one team, RVC. The lady J's started out strong with Heather Burkey's corner kick which was hammered home by Pamela Fiorillo. The gallant play of Lucia Giordano, Kristen Fricione and Alyssa Friedman kept the game close, but a penalty kick by RVC and another goal by a fine pass gave RVC a 2-1 lead.

Jennifer Spota and Maria Concilio were playing the ball long. With less than three minutes to go in the second half with the wind at their face East Islip scored a goal off a beautiful corner on which Stefanie Wertzel had no chance, to give E.I. the win.
Bengals 1 - Elmont 1
This was a very defensive game for the Bengals. The offense had a difficult time controlling the ball with the windy weather conditions. The defense had to work extremely hard to keep the Bengals alive. Seb had the opportunity and put the ball in the net to tie the game for the Bengals.

Stray Cats 5 - Riverdale Instigators 0
With a convincing 5 to 0 victory over the Riverdale Instigators, the Stray Cats advance to round two of the State Cup. Riverdale played tough the first half but despite the Stray Cats playing with the wind in their face, broke on top first. Alison Fliegel had the game winner on a blast past a solid Riverdale keeper. Beth DeMarco at fullback and Jessica Lippolis at stopper were the defensive catalysts the first half. Fine midfield play by Alyson Rose, Lindsay Rella and X'Ania Saldana controlled the tempo of the half. In the second half with the wind at our backs the Stray Cats exploded. Megan Stevens, Michele Galante, Keri Lippolis and Alison Fliegel (second goal) all lit up the net with goals. Many of the girls played unfamiliar positions in the second half with great results, showing the depth that this team has. Let's keep up the good work and not forget that a tough Merrick team awaits us in two weeks.

Lauren Castilla had a fine game, challenging the Freedom attackers. Vicki Nikic had a strong performance in goal, making numerous saves on the way to the shutout. The team so far this season has showed how crisp passes can open up the attack. Mary Hess and Eileen Hunt alternated between forward and midfield and each played a fine game. Michele Galante's speed and aggressiveness proved big in the first half as she scored the game winner from left wing. Alison Fliegel came through in the second half as she blasted in the second goal. To support the forward push, defender Marion Delepena ventured up the center and just missed a score on a stolen pass, but Dana H. followed through with a goal on the rebound. At 5-3, Bayside's star center again managed a breakaway but keeper Lyndsey DeSarbo came out of goal and face-to-face with the striker to stop a hard shot and prevent any chance for the opponent to reverse momentum. Dana H. completed her hat-trick with another smart goal on a rebound off the post.
