Panthers vs. First Lady

Panthers played a great first game. Christina Falco scored her first time goal and assist on the goal was Alley. Meagan and Jessica were outstanding in goal. Nicole C. and Melissa became a defensive wall.

The Pantherettes were eliminated from the Waldbaum's Cup by a strong and aggressive Massapequa team. Thje girls put forth a tremendous performance but were unable to contain the heat, in a see-saw game that ended with the Pantherettes on the short side 2-1.

A through pass from Diana found Kara. Kara fought in the box and buried the ball in the back of the net. Constant forward pressure from Concita, Jackie and Jess, created many scoring opportunities, keeping Massapequa's goalie busy all game. Super two way play by midfielders Kristin, Prachee and Kristin, their aggressive and speedy playing constantly fed our forwards. Our outstanding defensive line of Carolyn, Karen and Christine thwarted many of Massapequa's drives. Our goalie, Helen, played an extremely smart and aggressive game, anchoring our defense and keeping Massapequa's forwards frustrated.

Saber Cats 1 - Hicksville 2

The Saber Cats started strong in their first Waldbaum's tournament game. They put up a tough defense in the first half. Cristina Cannelle and Hillary Depowski kept Hicksville scoreless in the first half. Maiken Bursig made a great move on a Hicksville defender and scored a goal for the Saber Cats in the first half.

Two defensive mistakes in the second half by the Saber Cats gave Hicksville two goals and the game. However, Jessica Fliegel, Courtney Campson, and Stefanie Russotto played well at midfield. Michaela Masie went all the way at goalie and played a good game.

Tigers 1 - Valley Stream Wizards 0

Strong offense by Wizards was defended by Sean McGonigle's great goaltending. Good defensive play by Brendon Schweitzer and Dan Wortley cleared the ball for Allen Williams and Dylan Mayer to make good passes and shots at goal. Wizards held them.

Tigers dominated second half. Andre Burnett and Richie Caridi kept pressure on. Brendon Schweitzer assisted Danny Goldberg who scored. Wizards came back with offensive pressure but they could not get by Luigi Muto with a few excellent blocks and key goal saves by Nick Fishman.

Congratulations Tigers on your first win!

Stray Cats 1 - Stonybrook Red Demons 0

The Stray Cats opened the spring season with an exciting victory to advance to the second round of the Waldbaum's Challenge. It was all NHP in the opening 15 minutes of play as the Stray Cats dominated the action. Jessica Busardo and Alison Fliegel controlled play in the first half. Besides being a threat to score when they have the ball, their passing opened up the offense and kept Stonybrook on the alert. The Red Demons began to mount an attack late in the half but the defensive line of Mary Hess, Ashley Campson and Beth DeMarco shut down the attack. With two minutes left in the half, Kristina DiCostanzo made an excellent crossing pass to forward Megan Stevens who, with her back to the net, scored the game winner with a stunning shot. From here on in the Stray Cats defense took over to shut down the Red Demons. Stoppers Lauren Castilla and Vicki Nikic were solid on defense. X'Ania Saldana earned her first shut out of the season with excellent play in goal.

Aristocats 2 - Commack Sharpshooters 3

The Aristocats played a skillful, exciting game in their Waldbaum's Cup opener, suffering an unlucky loss in the second sudden death overtime period. These cats were purring today, with some quality playmaking from midfielders Diana Cotilletta and Ashley Felcon. Forwards Melissa Fulgenzi and Suzie Jozkowski each scored beautiful first half goals to give the team a 2-1 lead at the half. Solid defensive play throughout the game from backs Alyson Bader, Ali Art and Alicia Ezat. In the second half, our midfield was strengthened by the aggressive play of Emily Ocner, Diana Amoroso and Lauren Marra. Our girls continued their classy play until the game ended in heartbreaking fashion on a long distance goal from Commack. Danielle Losonci continued her confident, skillful play in the Aristocat net. Great effort today, girls against a tough opponent. Be proud of your efforts!

Pumas 4 - G.C. Tomahawks 2

After falling to this same team twice last season, the Pumas put it all together for their first W.C. game. After a scoreless first half, Matt Warren scored his first Puma goal, with assists from Joe Tempone and Seth Levine's strong corner kick. Just minutes later Frankie Tloczkowski made it 2-0, banging home a perfect pass from Matt Warren. Birthday boy Chris Ganz had a huge game, recording the first half shut out in goal, then scoring the last two Puma goals to secure the win. Big assists go to Matt Siracusa and Michael Howard. Strong two-way play by Chris Kassoff, Bobby Hugli and Stevie Mastrandrea. Solid defense by Giovanni Palazzo, Sal Costa and Chris Brewer.

Lightning Cats 1 - Commack Mustangs 0

The Lightning Cats would like to welcome Marissa Azzato to the team. Marissa started in goal and played tremendously, making many saves and punting well. The defense was led by Katie Roth and Nicole DeSimone, playing tough. Katelin Shea and Michelle Kroll helped the defense by playing very strong at halftime.

Sarah Ricchuiti started the second half in the net. Sarah made a couple of fantastic saves to keep us in the game. Samantha Selveggio and Shannon Lovisi showed their desire to win by hustling at both ends of the field.

With time running out in regulation, the Lightning Cats applied tremendous pressure in front of the Mustang's net. Cassie Green drilled home the winning goal with the assists going to Colleen Grace and Melissa Southern.

Cheshire Cats 0 - Valley Stream 2

The Cheshire Cats lost a tough opening round Waldbaum's Cup game to Valley Stream 2-0. We had some excellent individual play but never managed to put it all together. Laura Carey provided heads up play and some surprising speed at fullback. Megan Heinemann and Jami Cantwell were both outstanding at halfback. Katie Warren showed tremendous versatility in playing several positions well. Julia Powinski provided some exciting moments and excellent chances at forward.

Bengals 1 - Hewlett 2

The Bengals teamwork and skillful playing kept the score very close to one of the top placed teams in the division. An excellent job came from all the Bengal boys proving that working together always pays off. The offensive playing from Ryan C., Matt, Greg, John K., and Tom J. kept the pressure on throughout the game. Chris L., Tom H., and Peter "Z-MAN" were working real hard supporting the offense and defense and did a superb job. The defensive playing from Fernando, Ryan L., John M., and Seb made it tough for Hewlett to get through which only scored their one goal in the game. Our goalie, Chris Sawicki, proved himself again today having numerous saves which aided the Bengals. With under a minute left in the game the Bengals got the break they needed with a penalty shot which was taken from Matt D. who kicked it to the post which ricocheted into the net tieing the score and putting them into sudden death overtime. Hewlett ended up squeeking in the first goal winning the game. The boys did a great job today and should be very proud of themselves and of each other on how well they all get along together as a team.

Lady Starcats 2 - Bellport Fire 1

Our girls staged a second half rally to come from behind and defeat Bellport with a late game winning score. Each of our girls shone brilliantly as they came together in the second half to dominate play.

The tying goal was scored when Meaghan Houst placed a perfect cross to Sam Rosen whose blast found the net. Our defense kept us in the game led by the strong play of Kaitlyn Kennedy and Samantha Kunion as Bellport advances were rejected and cleared. Midfielders Christine Cusumano and Deanna Perniciaro controlled the ball and pushed it up to help feed a relentless second half attack onto the Bellport zone. The winning goal was fired in with less than two minutes to play by Erin Gilmartin.

Monica Soluri and Alison Monti combined to put in a very strong effort in net.

Nice comeback, girls! Let's try to play with this second half intensity from the opening kickoff.

Lazercats 2 - Middle Country Sharpshooters 1

New Hyde Park opened the scoring with a goal by Hector Jaramillo early in the game. Going into the second half with the score tied at 1-1, the boys were determined to come out on top. With a corner kick, Steve Zendzian placed the ball perfectly as big Sean Hunt notched his first goal of the season. Dan Takesky and newcomer Ed Koslakis played a great game limiting Middle Country's opportunities. When they did have shots, goalkeeper Alex Miricia was there to make spectacular saves.

Lady Leopards 0 - Hewlett 1

The Lady Leopards suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat at the hands of Hewlett. The loss eliminated them from the Waldbaum's Challenge. In the first half, the Blue Spirit dominated play. Only a tenacious defensive effort kept them off the board. Cathy Caballero and Christine Mikowski were midfield standouts. The defensive play of Kim Krakauer, Andrea Hiebler and Michelle Colletti was outstanding. Patti Leahy was sensational in goal. In the second half, the Lady Leopards went on the attack. Unfortunately, they could not hit paydirt. Katie Sakowich, Lauren Lidowsky and Whitney Blake were the catalysts. Hewlett took advantage of a defensive lapse and scored the game's only goal.

Lady Pumas 3 - POB 1

In their first game of the season, the Lady Pumas showed some of the rust from the winter recess. In spite of their dominance in the first half, the finishing touch was missing and only by the 30th Madelyn converted a penalty kick for the 1-0 lead.

Rosemary and Liz performed well under POB's pressure in the second half, well supported by Tracie and Jessica. After allowing the equalizer, our girls finally revved up the engines under Teri's command in midfield. Alex put the truth in the score board with 10 minutes left and Sabrina sealed the victory with a fine touch. Laurie performed well in goal and we all wish her a good and quick recovery.

Let's get our gear up, girls! The real challenges are coming!

Firecats 0 - Hewlett-Lawrence 3

The luck of the draw didn't go the Firecats' way, as they found themselves in an unusually tough first round Waldbaum's Cup matchup against their old nemesis with a new name. The team's misfortune extended onto the field as well, where their hard work in both ends went unrewarded. Credit must be given to Hewlett, which displayed impressive offensive control and solid defense. Nonetheless, it must be observed that all three goals came off scrambles in front of the net and, each time, a slightly more fortunate bounce would have allowed the Firecats to clear without danger. Hopefully, the team has now filled its quota of bad karma for the season, and can look forward to more just results in the future.

Cougars 5 - Bayshore 0

The boys picked up their winning streak where they left off last season. Great goalkeeping by Andrew H. and the solid defense by Paul H., Kyle S., Conrad T. and Mark R. allowed our midfielders and offense to make quick counterattacks. Goals scored by Kenny Z., Jonathan C., Jonathan T., Patric D. and Chris D.

Stormcats vs. Oceanside Chargers

The Stormcats took the electricity out of the Oceanside Chargers in a wild, wooly, fast paced challenge. The Stormcats led by Joe Maranno's two goals. The first goal was set up by Daniel Duras' fancy footwork. The second goal was assisted by Dan Gangale's monstrous boot from his own goal. The Stormcat defense was led by Robert Morici, Joe Incalcatera, Chris Dijanic, Robby Kassoff and Alex Neystat.

The offense had many runs by the always hustling Michael McHale and Justin Brobst.

This game was tied after regulation. This game was tied after the first overtime. This game was tied after the second overtime. What next, a shoot out? Mono a mono. The Stormcats all scored with the tremendous thunderfeet of Daniel Duras, Joe Marrano, Christian Uy, Robby Kassoff and Eric Andreuzzi. Four of five Oceanside boys scored. What a contest.

Well done boys!

Kickcats 4 - RVC 1

The Kickcats traveled to Rockville Centre for the first round of Waldbaum's with a minimum number of players. RVC scored the first goal. Kickcats kept fighting back when Corinne Tisei scored her first goal as a Kickcat. Great support from Lisa Karcic and Jessica Schacor. Outstanding defense led by Bridget Holahan and Marielle Ferstenberg. After regulation play and two five minute overtimes, score still tied 1-1.

Scoring three penalty shots, Jessica, Lisa, Michele and not giving any by goalie Katie Simmons.

Alleycats 3 - Stony Brook Red Devils 0

Alleycats advanced by beating the Stony Brook Red Devils 3-0 in the State Cup. Despite the lack of practice, the Cats put it together and gave all the spectators their money's worth. Anyone could see it. They were determined. The first few minutes were spent finding their rhythm and once they did the game was over. The first goal came when John Dunlop fooled the goalkeeper by heading the ball downward beyond the goalie's reach. The quickness of Dan Rosenberg assured this score. Minutes later a similar situation occurred. Rob Trasolini kicked a corner but Rob found the ball back before him at the wing. He gave it another shot, a low line drive. John Dunlop dove for it with the goalkeeper and both players came tumbling to the ground. The goalie managed to barely deflect it. With the ball still in play and the goalie down and out, Dan Rosenberg slammed the ball into the net for his second goal. Later in the second half, Rob Trasolini dribbled the ball against a tight marking defender. Somehow, he managed to cross the ball to Steven Kang who finished with a nice pass into the goal.

Remember, this was a total team effort and the scores could not have been possible without the playmaking effort of Mark Baydala, David Cantor, T.J. Santo and Stephen Lind in defense and our two goalies, Bobby Thomson and Matt Nolan.
