Aristocats 3 - Valley Stream Angels 2

The Aristocats began their spring season with a hard fought win over division rivals, the Valley Stream Angels. On a chilly, windy day, the first half play was not up to Aristocat standards. Suzie Jozkowski scored the first half goal on a breakaway, while Ali Art and Alyson Bader contributed strong defensive play. In the second half, the Aristocats stepped up their play, led by some quality passing by midfielders Diana Cotilletta and Ashley Felcon. The aggressive play provided a number of solid scoring chances, and Suzie took advantage of them to score twice more in the second half. Alicia DeMarco took control of the center of the field with some terrific tackling and long passes, while Alison Luby was tough to beat on one side of our defense. Aristocat spirits were lifted by the excellent play of Danielle Losonci in the net. In the end, the Aristocats survived a nail-biter to move on to the second round of the State Cup Open competition.

Lady Jaguars 2 - Patchogue-Medford 0

The Lady Jaguars, in a convincing 2-0 opening season victory in the State Open Cup, have advanced to the round of 16.

In the first half our girls controlled the tempo starting with Elizabeth Montrieul at sweeper, along with Lucia Giordano, Stefanie Weitzel and Lauren Baumann, who controlled our defensive end of the field. Heather Burkey's perfectly placed corner kick was banged home for the game winner by Pamela Fiorillo. Laura Papalexis improved her State Cup record to 11 wins and one loss in three years with another sterling performance.

Heather's solo dash and blast into the net locked-up the victory.

The coach would like to wish a speedy recovery to Leah Cantor's foot and Lauren Stacom's knee. Great game girls - let's keep up the tempo.

Bengals 3 - Northport 1

What a great way for the Bengals to start the season, especially for the first State Cup game. Goals scored today came from Matt D., John K. and Peter with the help of our offensive players. Great defensive plays by Fernando, Seb and John M. And as usual, our goalie, Chris S. with some really great saves. All the boys played well and hopefully can keep it up during the whole spring season.

Firecats 2 - Oceanside Riptide 0

Fast start to the Cup season for the Firecats, who dominated both ends of the field. The offense showed no rust from the off-season, as Staci Scianabo, Lauren Ratafia, Melissa Suarez, Ali Hintz and Nicole Lippolis combined to put constant pressure on the Oceanside goal. Although no one could finish in the first half, the defense kept the Firecats even. Stalwart play from Jen Mason and Christine Maulion on the back line and smart, aggressive play from keeper Molly Herrick denied every Riptide offensive. In the second half, the Firecats' midfield took over, with Eleni Roulis, Lindsay Martin, Mary McFarland and Janette Antic quickly breaking up Oceanside attacks and launching counter strikes. Early in the half, a gorgeous corner kick from Staci caught the Oceanside keeper flat-footed to give the Firecats the only goal they would need. Late in the game, Ali out-fought the Riptide goalie to control a chip cross from Stacy and buried the shot to close out a fine victory.

In the first round of State Cup play, the Lady Leopards were eliminated by Oceanside. The Cats turned in a credible performance but were unable to derail the potent Express attack. Lauren Spota and Christine Mikowski were the midfield catalysts. Whitney Blake and Jackie Hazel turned in spirited two-way efforts. Katherine Hock scored the goal. The defense was orchestrated by Samantha Didrikson. Alison Papalexis and Katie Sakowich excelled at marking back.

Little Giants 1 - Crew 5

The Little Giants came up against a very good Crew team and couldn't get it going. Nick Cusumano, Ryan, Sin, Zachary Ricchiuti did their best to pull the ball in the Crew's end of the field. Good goalkeeping from James Roth. Ed Daly and Daniel Santarsieri moved the offense. Goal by Kyle Sheridan.

Fast game up front with two goals by Tony Peveraro, two by Andrew Cohen and one by Chris "the speedy winger" Taglich. Mid-field everywhere (Robby Martines and Tony Peveraro). Defense solid as a rock with Vladimire Ivanoff sweeping, flanked by Lorenzo Posadas and Nick Marrano. Desi Farrell had a strong game in goal. John Hunt, super-sub, played great. Frankie Fabiano was strong.

Fusion 3 2 - Chicago Fire 3

Team Fusion, hold your heads high, today you showed everyone we will not go down easy. In a game that we dominated from beginning to end with no subs and played down one player the whole first half, luck went to the opposing team. Jonathan DeFelice, Andrew Montoni and John Jozkowski controlled the midfield the whole game backed up on "D" by the Rocco brothers (Mike and Nick), Daniel Lackner and Jason Brenner. Robert Graziano and Michael Oddo both played a solid game at the forward position. Our goal was scored by Jonathan DeFelice assisted by Mike Oddo. Remember boys, today we learned two very important things, teamwork and a lesson on sportsmanship.

A defensive battle against two tough teams. Chicago Fire was a bit rusty but is expected for Game 1. Alex Voskerijian, Patrick Nicoll, and co-captain, Anthony Fini created several non-stop hustle and defensive plays. Kris Kapela capped off his corner kick play when he volleyed one in during a scramble. Max Grant's speed and dribbling enabled co-captain Matt Andress to get open and tap in the winning goal. Matt showed his versatility earlier when he made several saves from the keeper spot. Gabe Gonzalez took over as the keeper to end an exciting game.

Arsenal 2 - Rough Riders 1

Goals by James VonDerLinn and Michael Santelesa with an assist to Eric Wendt on a well placed pass. Tremendous midfield play by Ronak Amin. But the play of the day was the save by Joey Beltempo on the penalty kick to save the victory.

Tough season opener for the Rough Riders. First half we opened up a little slow, but the pace was picked up dramatically. Great hustle from Andrew Bott, Joshua Cohen and Steven Halvey. Goal by Matt Simms.

Express 4 - Impact 2

Entire Express team played well to earn a victory in the season opener. Sean Rogers scored a hat-trick on assists from Frankie Tong, Alex Douris and John Coster. Gary Mancini scored on a beautiful crossing pass from Chris Gill. Sammy Wilbur played a tremendous game on defense along with Romulo Fajardo and Jonathan Ramos.

Impact came out strong in the season opener. We applied constant pressure the entire first half, but the tough Express defense wouldn't let us get off a good shot. A strong midfield was played by Robert Maer, David Schulman and Makis Konstantatos (who scored both Impact goals). Anthony Sacino played his position well and kept the pressure on the opponents. Jesse Klinger played very well in goal and was supported by Justin Hui and Declan Fee.

Hurricanes 4 - Panthers 1

The Hurricanes kept tremendous pressure on the Panthers defense. Andrew Morici (three goals) at center, Mario Costa (one goal) left forward, and Zack Marzouk at right forward, they eventually broke through. The Huricanes showed great teamwork all around. The defense and goalies did a great job. Special mention for sweeper Omar Ezat who constantly played offense and assisted on defense.

Lone goal scored by Michael Osorio. Great defense by Jake Weismann and Danny Bravo. Great hustle by Dan Viviano, Danny Naso and Sean Carton. Great offensive pressure by Scott Cohen. Good goaltending by Brian Bravo.
