From Daddy to Poppa
By Daughter Linda Lefton
I've thought many times of what
I'd like to say
When it would be needed on this very
sad day...
From daddy to poppa, a journey
of years...
A transition made easier-
though not without tears.
To daddy, I love you -
I'm your number one...
To contribute as you have, well
I've just begun.
You said just as long as I always keep trying,
Each small step makes a difference
To relieve someone's "sighing."
As daddy your stride was so long
I ran to keep up
As Poppa you slowed to each
grandchild's step
As Daddy your voice could
take over a room.
As Poppa you played Monopoly till
someone went bust, or boom!
Dad, you worked hard and earned
the respect
Of people you worked with on
committees or projects.
Poppa retired and to the golf course
he drove
Movies on Wednesdays, lunches
and shows
Poppa sat in the stands for the
games of the season
A forgotten book, or a ride home
from school...
Call Poppa and he'll certainly know
what to do
Daddy I miss you-I want a
big hug...
A chance to hold your hand and tell you
how much you were loved!
Is it necessary for you to leave
us this way?
I know that you're happy and
free from your pain
On your face is that wonderful big
smile again.
You are with me forever, I'll never
forget
All the places we went and the
time that we spent....
