Held for the very first time at Leonard's of Great Neck, the North Hempstead Town Fun Day Reunion, under the direction of Commissioner Anne Croce was, without a doubt, its biggest success thus far.

More than 800 happy senior citizens, from all over the town, packed into the ballroom and were treated royally as they were served a breakfast buffet of pancakes, sausages, eggs and bacon and bagels...all they could eat.

The entertainment, of Ron Coleman, the Long Island Swing Ensemble and the Mummers of Long Island was emceed by Deputy Park Commissioner Warren Shein, who also was able to sneak in a few solo numbers with the band.

The entire day was made possible by the generous sponsorship of Rita and Frank Castagna, of the Americana; Fran and Larry Pierce of Pierce Coach Lines and Joseph Mancino of Roslyn Savings Bank.

Commissioner Croce couldn't find words to express the gratitude she has for all the help the wonderful sponsors give to her and to her staff in making the popular event such a success. She said, "You just ask and they are there ready to help!"

Besides the sponsors many dignitaries stopped by including Nassau County Executive Thomas Gulotta who praised Croce and her staff for their hard work and then pointed out that the dedication of all those who made the day such a success helps to make Nassau County such a wonderful place to live!

State Assemblywoman Maureen O'Connell was on hand to greet the seniors, as were Nassau County Executive Thomas Gulotta and County Legislators Richard Nicolello, of New Hyde Park and Barbara Johnson, of Port Washington. Also joining the list of county representatives were Nassau County Citizen Affairs Commissioner Rena Iacono and Deputy Commissioner Ralph Caruso, who between them both know just about every senior citizen in the county as they are both so interested in the seniors.

Town officials were also on hand for the festivities including: Supervisor May Newburger, Councilmen Angelo Ferrara, Jim O'Connor, Councilwoman Doreen Banks, Town Clerk Linda Green and Receiver of Taxes Anne Galante.

The seniors all had a wonderful time and no one left empty-handed as goody bags were placed on all tables for the seniors, compliments of many more sponsors. It was truly a "fun day" for all!
