As we prepare for the upcoming season there are some mandatory meetings that the coaches of the intramural and travel teams must attend. The intramural coaches meeting will be held at the Knights of Columbus on Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. The travel coaches meeting will also be held at the Knights of Columbus on Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m.
Game 1
Lady Cougars 0 - Mahopac Yellow Jackets 1
The girls came out the first game controlling the action the entire game but just couldn't capitalize. Stefanie Kovacic, Nicole Denara, and Kim Carini supplied great pressure. Unfortunately the yellow jackets scored right before the whistle on their only real chance of the day. In indoor that's the way the ball bounces.
Game 2
Lady Cougars 1 - Clarkstown Kane 0
Strong defense from Dena Wlodarczyk, Caitlin Kennedy, and Jessica Connaughton. Kim Carini scored the only goal off a perfect pass from Teresa Ferraro. Midfielder Alison Kiernan and goalie Samantha Laszlo stopped every rush to preserve the shutout.
Game 3
Lady Cougars 1 - New Rochelle Bulldogs 1
After the bulldogs opened the scoring early on, the Cougars battled back and Teresa Ferraro stripped the ball away and took it all the way in for the goal. Allie Bresso was tough in the middle setting up the forwards with some nice passing.
Game 4
Lady Cougars 1 - N.R. Blue Waves 0
Stefanie Kovacic scored on a rebound of a K. Carini shot, Jessica Connaughton and Caitlin Kennedy stopped the offense of the Blue Waves holding them to just two shots, K. Carini, while playing with a slight fever kept the heat on all game.
Game 5
Lady Cougars 1 - Washingtonville 0
It was a must win situation for the Lady Cougars in order for them to take 1st place. With the girls looking a little tired the defense of Dena Wlodarcyzk, and Allie Bresso kept their opponents off the board. Finally after some hard work the Cougars Alison Kiernan scored the game winning goal off a corner kick started by Stefanie Kovacic. This proved to be enough for a 1st place plaque. Special thanks to Jim Kennedy who kept track of the scores of all the games, and also plays an important role with his positive team spirit. "Great Job Ladies!"
They did it again this year. The Alleycats dominated the East Meadow indoor tournament in the boys U-15 division. With two teams entered, they finished 1st and 2nd in their class. In addition David Cantor on the Alleycat Blue Team was awarded the best defensive player in the tournament and Steven Kang on the Alleycat White team was voted MVP of the entire tournament by the East Meadow officials. The white team earned the first place spot through the strong efforts of John Dunlop in goal, Rob Trasolini, Mike Pries, Brian Muldowney, Bryan Wolchok and the tournament's MVP Steven Kang. They all alternated between offense and defense. The blue team placed second because of the fearless approach to goaltending by Bobby Thomson and the skillful plays of Dan Verbanac. Mike Baydayla, Mark Goldman, and the tournaments best defensive player David Cantor.
The Kickcats traveled to Rockland County and outplayed their opponents, including their rival Valley Stream, whom they tied 0-0. Our goalie Devon was outstanding, giving up only one goal the entire tournament. Everyone played outstanding including our defense, led by Michele, Marielle and Bridget, our midfield, Jessica, Kristina, Shaina and Amanda and our forwards Ilana and Corinne. We would like to welcome Corrine Tisei to our team who scored 3 goals for us. The rest of the scorers were Jessica (2) and Amanda, Shaina and Ilana each adding one. After a tough season this was a great start. Let's keep it up! Well done girls. Congratulations!!
