Bertha M. Knell (nee Wulforst), of Albertson, died on Dec. 31, 1998. Wife of George P. Sr. Mother of George P. Jr. (Skip), the late John R., Thomas J. William H. and Regina K. Griffin. Grandmother of Elizabeth and Jason Knell, John, Robert and Matthew Griffin. Sister of Dorothy Hoeffner, Elizabeth Friedman and Helen Hoeg. Arrangements were made by the Weigand Bros. Funeral Home, Williston Park. Funeral Mass at St. Aidan's RC Church. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery. Donations can be made to Covenant House. Robert F. Pleines, 63, formerly of Albertson, died on Jan. 8, 1998. Husband of Toni. Father of Linda Andruscavage, Danta and Joseph Pleines. Grandfather of Jocelyn, Dale, Jenna, Trevor and Bradley. Brother of Emma McAvoy, Lorraine Kohanowich, Barbara Gerner, John, Kenneth and Peter Pleines. Arrangements were made by Moloney's Bohemia Funeral Home. Religious services. Cremation private at Nassau Suffolk Crematory. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 75 Davids Dr., Hauppauge, NY 11788. Virginia Carney died on Jan. 12, 1998. Born in Brooklyn, she grew up in Williston Park and was a graduate of St. Vincent's Medical Center School of Nursing in NYC. Mrs. Carney served as a first lieutenant in the US Army Nurses Group for 3 1/2 years, serving two of those years in England, France and Belgium during WWII. She also held a BS degree in teaching as well as a master's degree in administration both from St. John's University in Queens. She was also very active in practicing nursing education in Glen Cove. Arrangements were made by the R. Stutzmann & Son Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at Notre Dame RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
