Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy announced recently that the Angelo J. Melillo Center for Mental Health in Nassau County has been awarded a $400,172 grant by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Awarded under the Collaborative Supportive Family Housing Program, this grant will assist homeless providers to acquire, build, renovate and operate facilities that serve parents and individuals who suffer from a mental illness.
McCarthy said, "If we want our children to become productive members of society, we must ensure they have access to the basic necessities, such as food, shelter and a good education. I am delighted that the funds awarded today will help parents who suffer from mental illness give their children a roof over their heads while they get the support they need."
