On Dec. 4, the Notre Dame seventh grade girls won a real thrilling, physical game against St. Elizabeth of East Northport by a score of 34-31. Trailing most of the game by a few baskets, the girls kept their composure and completed a combined 14 to 25 shooting from the foul line which was an important factor in this hard-earned victory.
The girls played an intensive full court press on defense in the fourth quarter which brought them back into the game. There was a balanced scoring attack with Shaina Pollock scoring 10 points with several key assists. Melissa Flaherty scored five points with strong rebounding and chasing down loose balls against a very physical opponent. Annie Verdino blocked several shots on defense and scored six points. Kerri-Ann Rudd took a long outside shot for two points with 30 seconds left, scoring the go-ahead basket. Lisa Karcic scored 11 points showing everyone that she is back to her "old self" of making steals and driving the floor with lay-ups. Stephanie Liguori is really showing her ball handling skills and driving the floor with lay-ups. Keri Lippollis and Sonia Mardarowich did a great job on the press, causing several turnovers and going after loose balls on defense.
Karen Ernst, recovering rapidly, showed her support for her teammates, and the girls are anxiously awaiting her return to the court. Thank you, parents, for all your support!
