On Nov. 13, the Herricks Community Fund held its 3rd Annual Fundraiser Dinner Dance at the Swan Club. More than 180 people from the Herricks community, along with administrators, principals and teachers from the school district, as well as local politicians, spent the evening dining and dancing and generally having a great time. Along with the jocularity, the purpose of the evening was for the fund to raise money for mini-grants for school projects that enhance the education of the Herricks school children.
The highlights of the evening included a visit and presentation from Nassau County Executive Thomas Gulotta. There were also presentations from representatives of New York State Senator Michael Balboni and Assemblyman Thomas DiNapoli as well as by North Hempstead Town Councilman Anthony D'Urso who attended the dinner.
Other political figures in attendance were North Hempstead Town Councilwoman Doreen Banks and Williston Park Village Deputy Mayor Doreen Ehrbar with her husband Paul who is the president of the Herricks School Board.
Further, there were more than 30 raffle prizes including a $500 and a $250 cash prize; lunch for four at a top restaurant in New York; a bus trip to Atlantic City for four and a two-night stay at a four-star Manhattan hotel.
The best news of the evening came when I had the honor of presenting to Herricks Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Sidney Freund, a check in the amount of $5,000 for mini-grants. This is the third year that the fund has been able to provide funding for mini-grants.
A lot of work went into the preparation of this event. The funds second vice president Jackie McHugh chaired a committee of dedicated individuals who put in a lot of time and effort to make the dinner dance a success. And we can't forget the many, many supporters of the fund and the Herricks community, both individuals and corporations, whose generosity made this a successful fund raising event.
Thank you all and see you next year at the Herricks Community Fund's 4th Annual Dinner Dance.
