It was reported at the last New Hyde Park Village Board meeting, by Trustee William Fischl, that the engineers have run into additional problems with the repairs and the work on Jericho Turnpike and it may not be completed this year. They discussed doing more night work; however, since they cannot pour asphalt in cooler weather, the asphalt plants usually close down after Thanksgiving. In the interim there will be another meeting in Floral Park to further discuss the situation.
In other matters Trustee Fischl reported that the flooding problem on North 6th & 7th Streets, south of Bryant Avenue, is the result of a drainage pipe that is not located properly and is not draining the rain water. It is now necessary to determine who the pipe belongs to since it borders on the Town of North Hempstead portion of New Hyde Park.
Apparently near the beginning of November Trustee Fischl inspected the site of South 3rd Street that has been the topic of concern to the village. He found no cars or trucks, no activity or work going on in the owner's yard. On Nov. 5 the Nassau County Department of Health called to report that the county does not have the facility for a decimal reading of noise. Regarding the smoke and odors at the site, the health department stated that, as yet, they have received no complaints and without a complaint they cannot act.
A resident said that there is still activity of loading and unloading equipment in the middle of the street between the hours of 4 and 5 p.m.. However, when the police are called, by the time they arrive, the activity has ceased.
Trustee Robert Seldomridge stated that at a meeting at village hall the owner of the property assured everyone that he would do everything possible to get the trucks as close to the gate as he could and he then said he would be in touch with him to ask him if it is possible to back the trucks into his yard for unloading.
Trustee Frank Komornik reported that he is very pleased with the progress of the Memorial Park renovations. The first week the drainage was completed, then the sprinkler system was installed and the forms are ready to pour the concrete. If the weather holds, the project could be completed by the end of this December.
Trustee Seldomridge displayed, to those in attendance, the new recycling containers. They are bigger and stronger and residents are encouraged to use them. Further, it was suggested, although not mandatory, that perhaps the old containers could be put out for collection. It was also suggested that residents put their address on the container.
