With only one week to go, the players were in top form. The junior match saw a memorable game with tons of scoring. Playing for the first time this season with the large nets, goals were coming fast and furiously. Our statistician's head was spinning as no one could recall one player ever putting in five goals, but it happened this week! Melissa Bauer, not normally a huge offense threat, scored on breakaways, off rebounds, every which way. Outstanding passing by Debbie Chin and Stefani Egre. However, responding from the red team were their two scoring machines, Lucas and Samantha Epstein. They combined for five goals to tie this game.
The senior game was no contest as the red team had all the offense. Bobby Lee scored twice, one from an almost impossible angle, while Curt Walline buried a shot just under the cross bar. The smaller nets did not seem to hamper their ability to score. The yellow team just couldn't get started.
Next weekend's our season with the traditional 'parents vs. the players' match. Everyone is looking forward to this very competitive rivalry.
P.S. A black Adidas jacket was lost at either the Herricks Community Center or Hillside Grade School. If found, please call Rich Bletsch at 328-3043.
Cheshire Cats 2 - North Shore 1
The Cheshire Cats used excellent team play to offset the good team play of North Shore for a 2-1 win. Laura Carey returned from an injury to join Lisa Virzera and Sarah Mahan to anchor a swarming defensive effort. Katie Warren demonstrated her versatility in offense, defense, and midfield. Megan Heinemann showed skills in going double duty at midfield and forward. Miriam Varghese broke up charge after charge. However, we found ourselves behind early as North Shore scored first. The girls showed their true mettle while we were behind as everyone picked up their game a notch. Within 10 minutes Danielle Young blasted a shot high into the goal from 25 yards out. It then remained for Michelle LaBarbera to find Stephanie Chan for the game winner early in the second half.
Lady Cougars 2 - P/OB Magic 1
The Lady Cougars controlled the entire first half getting numerous chances but could not come up with one goal. Kim Carini scored with the assist goal to Nicole Dobranski. Allie Bresso and Alison Kiernan kept the pressure on. The Magic netted a goal during the first half to get even at 1-1. The defensive play of Dena Wlodarczyk and Catie Kennedy shut down the Magic's attack. Goalie Sam Laszlo slammed the door on the offense. Stefanie Kovacic scored the winning goal late in the second half on a rebound of a direct kick by Teresa Ferraro.
Lady Cougars 2 - Pat./Med. Pride 1
The Cougars capitalized early, scoring on a penalty shot by Teresa Ferraro. The Pride answered back netting one in from a corner kick. Stefanie Kovacic, fending off a very tough defense, nailed the winning goal off sweet passes from Kim Carini and Andrea Flori. The second half was scoreless thanks to the defensive play of Jessica Connaughton and goalie Samantha Laszlo. Good game girls and good luck in Round 4.
Lady Lynx 3 - Syosset Storm 1
The Ladies, while trying to figure out a tenacious Syosset attack, had to overcome a bout of overconfidence as Syosset took a 1-0 lead to the half and had the Lady Lynx scratching their heads.
The Lady Lynx got back on track as Michelle Contrada converted a penalty kick to equalize the score. As goes Michelle so go the Lady Lynx and they quickly caught fire. The defense, led by Brigid Fee and Lauren Keavney, shut down any further Syosset chances while the attack found their focus. Jennifer Jung stepped up and found the back of the net twice, while feasting on the hard work and precision passing of Honor Adams.
The Lady Lynx displayed poise under pressure in scoring a comeback win! Super goalkeeping by Caitie Clark and Katie Gilroy.
Lady Pumas 8 - Bethpage 1
There was not even a spark from the Bethpage Lightning as they posed no contest for the Lady Pumas. Once our girls got control of the midfield, the fluency of their game came up and so did the score! Madelyn, Alex, Laurie and Maria scored in that order for a halftime 4-1 lead.
From Puja and Meghan's hard work benefited Sabrina, who scored three times in a quick span of eight minutes! Tracie and Christy won their defensive duels while Maria closed up the score by the 15th. With 25 left in the game, our Ladies found the contest out of reach for the opponent!
Great time up for next week's showdown in Port Washington! Be ready!
Lady StarCats 3 - Amityville Lady Warriors 2
This was a strong, well played game. Our fourth win in a row. Two late game, unanswered goals by Amityville made the score a lot closer than the game actually was.
The first half was all StarCats as offensive pressure was applied relentlessly. Our first goal was blasted in by Meaghan Houst on a setup by Samantha Rosenberg. Meaghan would score again on a breakaway. Our girls launched a barrage of shots. The forward line led the offensive thrust. In the second half, Kerianne Stein scored what proved to be the winning goal with a rocket from outside the 18 meter box.
Midfielders continuously won the ball and helped spark the offense. Defensively, led by by Sam Kunion, our girls played tough, turning away most Amityville advances. In net, both Kaitlyn Kennedy and Alison Monti played brilliantly preserving the win. Nice team effort! Keep it up!
Lady Tigers 0 - Valley Stream 0
The Tigers' defense played a solid game and protected their territory with strong performances by Dominie Kokkoris and Francine Leung at the wings and Marion Delapino at center. As the Valley Stream team pushed the ball forward their momentum was quickly stolen, especially with plays by Catie Loskofsky and Vannessa Canner who showed their ball handling strength to the opponents. The Lady Tigers' offense was struggling throughout the game although they outshot Valley Stream 10 to 2. Keeper Lyndsey DeSarbo helped keep the opponents scoreless, but the Tigers had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
Lady Tigers 7 - Hicksville Tornadoes 3
The Blue Scoring Machine was in overdrive again and tallied seven goals to advance to the final eight in the State Cup. The Tigers jumped off to an early lead as Nicole Cavallaro crossed a pass to Ali Timano who drilled in the ball past the Hicksville goalie. Hicksville answered back quickly with a goal but Jaime Bourazeris skied a shot from 30 yards over the head of the keeper. Nicole Cavallaro added another score off a rebound and the Tigers took a 3-2 lead into the half. The Ladies opened the second half with a perfect assist from Debra Prevete to Nicole. Dana Hammer added two more goals - one off a rebound and the next from an assist by Raquel Conti, who scored the seventh goal on an assist by Denise Prevete.
Congratulations girls!
Saber Cats 2 - Auburndale 0
The Saber Cats scored early when Courtney Campson made a good pass to Maiken Bursig for goal number one. Offensively, the Saber Cats played very aggressively and kept the pressure on the Auburndale goalie for the entire game. Good offensive play from Stefanie Russotto and Maiken Bursig who also scored the second goal.
Midfielder Laura Galante had a good game. The defense, led by Christina Cannella and Hillary Depowski, played their usual good game.
Michaela Masci played goalie for the entire game. A great game and win for the Saber Cats.
Stray Cats 4 - Cold Spring Harbor 1
Today, the Stray Cats demonstrated the good, solid soccer they are capable of playing on the way to a 4-1 victory over the CSH Jaguars. Crisp and accurate passing opened the field for the offense in a good effort by all the Stray Cats. Alison Fliegel opened the scoring four minutes into the game on a pass from Mary Hess. Lauren DeSimone had the game winner with Alison getting an assist. Megan Stevens scored the third goal of the day on a pass from Jessica Busardo. Jessica B. closed out the scoring off a nice feed by Megan. Lauren Castilla had a strong two way game today playing solid defense and very aggressively on offense. Jessica Lippolis and Alyson Rose both played aggressively, winning the ball several times in the midfield. Michelle Galante and Mary Hess each had a nice game from the left wing.
Thundercats 4 - Garden City Sharks 0
Colleen Marino leads the offense by first gaining the zone and then passing into Maria Saitta to capture first two goals. Colleen then picks up the third goal off a corner kick by Maria. Cindy Scianablo makes a beautiful pass into Elise Messina for the fourth goal. Good, strong playing by Sean Sopilnick. Once again, defensive unit led by Jenna Peveraro, Cindy Luk and Paige Darby rules the field. Ali Antman gains another shut-out victory with aggressive goalkeeping skills.
Thundercats 2 - Scarsdale Raiders 1
Thundercats had to depend on all their skills to defeat a tough opponent. Throughout first half forwards Cindy Scianablo, Analise Siciliano, Samantha Sopolnick and Maria Saitta kept pressure on. Cindy had some nice shots on net that were saved by the aggressive keeper. The first half remained scoreless. Second half play, Analise took a shot that went off the keeper and Maria was there for the rebound. Scarsdale came back on a breakaway to tie the game. Colleen Marino and Sara Aron-Bayof were awesome in the middle. Jenna Peveraro, Cindy Luk, Paige Darby, and Becky Heineman played textbook defense by beating the Raiders to the ball and aggressive ball control. With four minutes left, Elise Messina captured the winning goal on a blast outside the 18m mark. Ali Antman stood strong in goal to advance Thundercats to round 3.
Aristocats 2 - Garden City Shooting Stars 2
The Aristocats fought to a 2-2 tie against a determined opponent from Garden City. Suzie Jozkowski drove the offense with a pair of splendid first half goals, and solid play throughout. Midfielders Alyson Bader and Diana Cotilletta had tenacious two-way games, showing skill and speed at their positions. Alison Art was the anchor of our defense with some determined, aggressive sweeper play. Theresa Piliero stepped up again to guard the next for both halves.
Unfortunately, the Aristocat level of play as a team was not up to its usual standards, as the Garden City team stepped up to control the second half. Let's keep our focus, girls, as we prepare for our final league game.
Kickcats 2 - West Babylon 3
The Kickcats lost to a rough, tough West Babylon team. We opened up the scoring with a nice pass from Jessica to Kaitlin to Lisa who smacked it into the net. Jessica would add a second goal on a direct kick.
However, West Babylon was a little more determined today. We had a few team lapses where we weren't focused and let up two easy goals. We grouped together late and finished with some intensity. Ladies, when we play a full 70 minutes we'll be unbeatable. With two home games left we've got plenty of time to make some statements to our division.
"Keep Kicking, Kickcats"
Lady Jaguars 1 - Island Trees Fireballs 3
Our girls traveled to Island Trees to battle for one of the top two spots in Division 2. After six straight victories the Lady Jaguars came up short by the score of 3-1.
During the first 20 minutes our girls were playing excellent soccer, fine passing, give and go's along with some shots on goal. Then a penalty kick was awarded to Island Trees for a 1-0 lead. This changed the momentum in favor of the Fireballs.
The second half our girls took over again. Alyson Friedman, Pamela Fiorillo and Jennifer Spota spurred our team on. Even after Island Trees broke free for a breakaway goal to go up 3-0, these Lady Jaguars were on fire. Amanda DiJanic's goal off a pass from Meghan Pate cut the lead to 3-1. Meaghan Nolce, Lucia Giordano and Elizabeth Montreuil were relentless in winning any loose balls.
At the final whistle the score was 3-1, our girls played excellent soccer and the coaches were pleased with the game and the manner in which the girls played.
Lightning Cats 1 - VOB 3
Great game today by all Lightning Cats. Sarah Ricchuiti and Missy Southern shared the goalkeeping and played very well.
Kim Grammas drilled a beautiful shot under the crossbar for the first goal of the game, assisted by Missy's nice pass from the corner. We had many scoring chances but VOB's goalkeeper turned out to be the difference in the game.
Fantastic team effort by all, Grace Emanuelle, Colleen Grace, Kristina Masci, Katelin Shea.
Today's biggest obstacle was that we had no subs. Our girls played well enough to win and deserved to win.
SpeedyCats 2 - Smithtown Barrage 3
The SpeedyCats played very well today against a team that they had previously tied. Despite some key saves by goalies Janelle Reif in the first half and Tara Marsigliano in the second half, the final score did not reflect the team efforts. Jessica Galante, Diane McCormack, all performed extremely well on defense against a very aggressive team. The forwards, Ashley Weinstein kept constant pressure on the other team's defense. The midfielders Christine Coven kept the ball moving downfield. The first score was a powerful midfield drive by Marie LaMaida. Marylu Donovan scored to put us within one goal of the opposition. We are all proud of the strong team effort!
Battlecats 5 - Merrick 2
A solid victory with fine contributions by the entire team. Robbie Guercio accounted for two goals, one off a perfect Chris Siracusa corner kick and the other from Richie Femia. Andrew Simms scored off a beautiful setup from Juan Flores. Chris Siracusa, on a corner kick, curved it for a goal. Chris Sigmund added another. Jeff Moculeski held the midfield. Richie Crifasi had a number of quality saves in goal.
Bengals 3 - GCP Generals 1
The Bengals were ready for this one. Their skills showed throughout the game. Great cross from Pete to Ryan C. gave us our first goal. Second goal came from Pete who popped it high to Ryan C. who put it in the net. The last goal was from a beautiful cross from Ryan C. to Matt D. who finished the job. Chris S., Fernando, Seb and John M. were unstoppable in defense, building a wall to stop their opponents from getting through. Tom H. shined today with his aggressiveness, stopping the Generals dead in their tracks. The boys played a great game and should hold their heads high!
Cougars 6 - Huntington Sharks 0
Scoring was led by Jonathan Turnbaugh (hat trick), Ryan Schoendorf, Dan Reilly and Ken Zask. Outstanding midfield effort from Patrick Devins. The defensive unit had its best day of the season. In fact, Mark, Kyle and Paul had assists on three of the goals scored.
The coaches are proud of the way the Cougars are playing ¬ a fine all-around game of soccer. The team work has improved tremendously since the beginning of the season, and the word "team" certainly applies to the Cougars more so now than ever before.
Lazercats 3 - GCP Militia 0
The Lazercats, winning their first encounter, had no doubt that they were going to walk away with another victory. the first goal was scored by Adam Ilardi, next one by Stroshein. Tom McGuire sent the third bomb into the goal that blew up the Militia. Mike Jaroncyzk, Sean Hunt and Jimmy Zyzopoulous all kept the pressure in the Militia zone. Alex Miricia came up with a lot of huge saves. Kudos to all!
Pumas 4 - East Meadow 0
The Pumas pulled out all the stops today and dominated the entire game. Another total team effort gave the Pumas their second straight shut out victory! First goal scored by Ryu Kawana, off a nice lead pass from Seth Levine. Seth them powered a penalty shot past the goalie for the second goal. The third goal was set up by a perfect cross pass by Bobby Hugli, to Frankie Tloczkowski. The final score came off another Seth Levine lead pass, this time to Joe Tempone who blasted it home. Superb defense by Matt Siracusa. Excellent two-way play by Michael Howard, Stevie Mastrandrea.
Tigers 1 - Auburndale Thunderbolts 2
The Tigers played an excellent game against a first place Auburndale opponent and never let their guard down the entire game. Outstanding goaltending by Richie Caridi and Nick Fishman. Carmine Gironda scored the only goal on a breakaway. Dan Goldberg and Dylan Mayer were just shy of goals. Allen Williams and Luigi Muto gave it their all. Great team effort.
Tigers 2 - Hicksville 0
The Tigers controlled the action from beginning to end in this second round State Cup game. Rich Caridi started the scoring off a nice feed from Andre Burnett. Brendon Schweitzer was a force from one end of the field to another. The defense of Ray Andersen, Dan Wortley and Joe Mercadante was superb. Dan Goldberg put an exclamation point on the game with a second half goal assisted by Sean McGonigle. Excellent game!
Stormcats 3 - Valley Stream 3
This should have been a walkaway for NHP. The defense was as stingy as ever, not allowing a goal in the first half, led by Robert Morici and Joe Incalcatera. Danny Gangale was spectacular as he stopped a couple of close range missiles.
Daniel Duras started the scoring with a mammoth throw-in by Robby Kassoff. Our second goal came when Mike McHale headed a loose ball in front of the net. Next, Dan Duras fed Eric Andreuzzi who neatly put one away. Chris Dijanic was a force playing two-way soccer.
Magic Cats 1 - Syosset 3
The Magic Cats lost a heartbreaker to Syosset on some questionable calls. Down 1-0, Pasquale Imbriano evened the score. The defense held its own against an aggressive Syosset team. Great defensive play by Mike Nathan and John Fini. Great passing by Justin Soluri and Mike Makowenskyj. Great midfield support by Joe Romeo.
Stormcats 1 - B.W. Gotechhee 2
The New Hyde Park Stormcats lost its State Cup game to a very talented B.W. Gotechhee team 2-1 in a great contest. The game was played under adverse playing conditions at the Metropolitan Ovale.
Joe Incalcatera and Chris Dijanic were awesome on defense. Our only goal came when Eric Andreuzzi banged one off the crossbar and Daniel Duras pounded the rebound in.
Aztecs 0 - Stingers 1
Aztecs were strung early, but settled down to play like maniacs. Lou Flaherty and John Weitzel combined for 63 saves. Wesley Macker, Don Saldarriaga and Mike Sausto were smothering. Goal by Jason Brown and Mike Marsigliano negated by offside call.
In a well played game, the Stingers came out on top with a goal by Angelo Grgs. Solid midfield play by Robert Butler kept the pressure on. Great defense by Tom Graziano.

An exciting game! Excellent effort by the entire team. Solid defense by Peter and Danny. Goals scored by Ryan C. and Ryan M. Bobby Young played fantastic goaltending. Alex, Ryan, Sean, Joe and Vincent gave their best effort ever.
Dragons 2 - Dynamite 1
Well played game by both teams. Dragon goals scored by Roberto Marchitelli and Zachary Santangelo. Great assists from Joe Myones and Michael Santangelo. Great defense led by Jon Paul DiMarco and Billy Campbell.

Panthers 1 - Rockers 2
Panthers played their best, playing short-handed. Dan Romagnoli scored the goal. The boys deserve credit for always giving 100 percent. The coaches were proud to coach a group of fine young boys. Enjoy the holidays to A.J., Brijen, Chris, Declan, Andrew, Zach, Danny N., Danny R., Sean, Jimmy, Anthony and Aneste.
The Rockers proved hard work pays off. They won their first game of the season. David Schulman scored the first goal. Alan Joseph scored the game winner with 20 seconds left in the game. Danny Viviano was super in goal. Mike Rocco was tough on defense. Gianluca Imbriano was aggressive at right forward. Special thanks to Joe Clark, the stand-in ref.
Little Giants 0 - Fusion 1
Well played up and down the field game by both teams. Excellent goalkeeping by Stephen Montoni and Brian Bravo. Good midfield and defense from John Hunt, James Roth and Robert Lenora. Paulo Rodrigues and Nick Cusamano had some strong kicks.
Team Fusion played their best game of the year against a tough Little Giants. Kevin Kiebler again displayed his fine skill in goal, stopping the Little Giants time after time. Derek Cheung, Joey Venizia and Affie Russotto all played solid "D". Eric Gerwatowski played his best game of the season at midfield. The offensive pressure was supplied by Robert Graziano and Chris Taglich. With about two minutes remaining in the game, Jonathan DeFelice put one past the keeper to give team Fusion the win.
Crew 1 - Chicago Fire 1
Excellent game played by the Crew. Offensive pressure by Tony, Andrew, Frankie and Robby resulted in a fantastic goal by Frankie Tong on a header. Midfielders Vinny, Jonathan and Robby stepped up, as did Sammy Lorenzo. Anthony and Vladimire on "D." Desi Farrell was splendid in goal taking opportunities away from Chicago Fire.
Chicago Fire played a "never give-up" type performance against a tough Crew team. Leading the charge was "Crypt Keeper" Andrew Alexander as he gave his best in front of the net. Playing shorthanded, Matthew Uy displayed his "look-up" type skills and placed a perfect pass through to the awaiting Super Mario Costa who shot it through past a diving keeper during injury time. The always-reliable Cedric Pizzagalli teamed well with Romulo Fajardo on "D." Chris Murphy played relentlessly on mid, giving support to Ronak Amin and Omar Ezat on the offensive pressures. The team wishes Daniel Sasso a speedy recovery from injury.
Impact 2 - Rough Riders 6
The Impact gave it a fine effort. Michael Riccardi led the offense with two goals. Jonathan Rezin continues to play smart soccer at both forward and defense. A super play by Paul Roantree saved a goal when he cleared a ball, which was inches away from going in the net.
Best team effort of the season. Michael Oddo was tremendous with his two-goal effort. Completing the scoring was Andrew Bott, Matt Simms and Max Grant (2). Matt Nathan was tough on defense and offense, assisting on a few goals. Defense squad was led by goalie Steven Tomasik, Michael Wang and Tom Casalino. Outstanding play by James VonDerLinn and Matt Andress.
Rockers 1 - Chicago Fire 1
Fantastic team effort by the Rockers against a very tough Chicago Fire team. The Rockers really came together as a team in the last three games. Super effort by Alan Joseph to assist on a Mike Rocco goal. Danny Viviano was sensational in goal. Anthony Fini, Daniel Lackner, Patrick Streffacio and Gianluca Imbriano were strong on defense. Nick Rocci, Andrew Bottenhofer and Gabrial Gonzalez made some nice passes.
Chicago Fire entertained the parents with crisp passing all game long and they applauded with approval. Playing in different positions, Cedric Pizzagalli, Chris Murphy, Ronak Amin and Frank Fabiano had several opportunities but just couldn't get anything by a tough Rockers keeper. Romulo Fajardo displayed his speed as he cut down several breakaways. Matthew Uy's textbook cross from the left was easily finished by a tap from Super Mario Costa. Omar Ezat handled the keeper spot well.
Rough Riders 1 - Manchester United 1
Great team effort played by all the Rough Riders against a tough Manchester United team. You boys played your hearts out and that's all a coach can ask for. Thank you for a great "undefeated" season from your coaches and good luck in the playoffs.
The battle of two undefeated teams lived up to all the pre-game hype. Michael Santelesa scored the lone goal for Manchester United. Richard Caruso dazzled all with his incredible ball handling. The Rough Riders scored on a penalty kick to knot the game. A great finish for two outstanding teams.
Fusion 2 - Crew 2
For the second day in a row, team Fusion faced a tough fight. Today it was against the Crew. Derek Cheung, Affie Russotto and Joey Venizia all played great defense. The goals were scored by Jonathan DeFelice and Chris Taglich on a great cross from Robert Graziano. Missing was Andrew Montoni and Coach Andy, due to a death in their family. The teams' prayers go out to the Montoni family.
Great game by Crew. Beautiful cross pass by Andrew Cohen to Tony Peveraro for a goal. Offensive pressure by Frank Tong and Andrew Cohen was relentless. Great defensive play by Jonathan, Lorenzo Posadas, Vladimire Ivanoff and Anthony Thomas. Robby Martines and Vinny LaMaida were super at midfield setting up their forwards. Great game by Desi Farrell in net.
