Taking a look at this past week we can be proud of the accomplishments of our Wildcats teams.
The New Hyde Park Girls Varsity clinched the Conference Title on its way to the finals...New Hyde Park Boys Varsity made it to the play-offs for the first time...and the Sacred Heart Academy girls won the Catholic League Championship! This is the team the late Bob Fiston coached and he knew that one day the girls would accomplish this feat....
On Sunday, "SHA" beat Kellenberg HS 1-0 in sudden death overtime. As if the final game wasn't enough, the girls had to play their past nemesis St. Anthony's in the semi-finals. Tied at 1-1, the girls had to return the following day to continue the overtime, due to darkness. In the second 10 minute overtime, Bobcat Nicole Fontana crossed the ball to another Wildcatter, Michele Pesiri, for the winning goal! The girls wish to thank Mrs. Pat Fiston for encouraging and supporting Bob's girls to this year's State Championship on Nov. 14.
Let's bring home the title.
The entire Wildcats' family extends its congratulations to both NHP girls varsity and SHA. We wish them both continued success in their drive for the title.

At the Plainview/Old Bethpage tournament last week, NHP teams were outstanding.
The junior division team was a powerhouse! Lucas Epstein and Samantha Epstein led the offense, providing all the scoring. Eugene Simmons was the outstanding goalie, making one point blank stop that had everyone marveling at his big league save. Christian Buccellato, Joe Ferrara and Hector Martinez rounded out the rest of this undefeated squad and supplied the support needed to come out on top.
The intermediate division was a big question mark as they lacked the depth of the rest of their opponents. However, they rose to the occasion and went through the day without a loss. The goals were scored by John Ferrante, Derek Epstein, Steven Serio and a huge blast by Dan Downey. Steve and Derek displayed commendable sportsmanship through some trying times. The midfield was controlled by Melissa Bauer and Debbie Chin. Steve and John shared the goal keeping duties.
Our senior players consisted of Robert DeTrano, Bobby Lee and Curt Walline. They played on a combined team and held their own against some stiff competition.
With only two weeks left to the season, the players and parents look forward to the final week when the two generations clash in the now classic parents vs. the players season-ending match.
P.S. Still holding some items left at Denton Avenue on Oct. 17: one Wildcat jacket with initials "T.P.", size - med.; one small navy blue, zip up sweat shirt with a "Tigger' patch on the front; one cooler. Please call Rich Bletsch at 328-3043 to claim these items.
P.P.S. A belated thank you to J2 Resources (Mark Papalexis) for his donation, the NHP Wildcats for their donation from the recent NHP Street Fair and the Bauer Family for donating some of the food and supplies to our second annual Special Soccer Tournament.

Aristocats 4 - Hauppauge Eagles 1
The Aristocats continued their winning ways with a hard fought victory over Hauppauge. The Aristocats struck early when Jennifer Fabian headed to Suzie Jozkowski who skillfully headed it over the keeper for the score. Throughout the remainder of the half, the team had the better of the play thanks to some smart midfield play from Ashley Felcon. Alicia DeMarco delivered two beautiful long range goals, one on a free kick. Theresa Piliero adroitly made the saves in goal when needed. Unfortunately, the skill level of the game suffered as both sides mixed it up physically. Lauren Marra and Diana Cotilletta split second half goalkeeping responsibilities. Our defense broke down all Hauppauge scoring attempts. The final goal of the game was a beauty into the far corner by Melissa Fulgenzi. Let's keep working hard at practice, girls, as we face our final two games.
Cheshire Cats 1 - Mattituck 0
The Cheshire Cats used an aggressive defense and a swarming offense to defeat the first place Mattituck team. Michelle Cohen was brilliant as keeper to earn her fifth shutout. Miriam Varghese and Alison Dehler-Barnett did an outstanding job in splitting the assignment of marking their top offensive threat. Meghan O'Leary and Stephanie Chan ranged over the whole field to provide an exceptional stopper. Meanwhile, the offense was attacking continually. Michelle La Barbera centered a pass to Julia and Jennifer who touched the ball together to net the goal. The total team effort made this perhaps the best goal of the season and also perhaps the Cheshire Cats' best game of the season!
Lady Jaguars 2 - West Islip Thunder 1
The Lady Jaguars won their sixth straight game in divisional play by beating West Islip Thunder 2-1. Samantha Robbins' collision with the keeper pushed the ball to Jennifer Spota who rammed in the opening goal. Laura Papalexis tied the score at halftime. Lauren Baumann and Lauren Stacom took charge in the half putting the ball into West Islip's end. Finally, Lauren Baumann's pass found Amanda DiJanic, who punched home the game winner.
Lady Lynx 4 - Plainedge Tigers 3
The Lady Lynx took on a tough Plainedge team and stood to the challenge by handily defeating the Tigers.
Adrianna Cavallaro converted the opportunity, equalizing a 1-0 Plainedge lead. After some super midfield play by Michelle Contrada and great goalkeeping by Caitie Clark the Lady Lynx took a 1-1 tie to the half.
The Lady Lynx were on a mission as Lora Tloczkowski took a feed from Lauren Keavney and drove a shot that put the Ladies up 2-1. Adrianna Cavallaro scored her second goal of the day by prying the ball loose from the Plainedge defense. Not to be outdone, Brigid Fee scored what would prove to be the game winner on a blast from 30 yards out.
The Tigers, who refused to go quietly, came back and scored two late goals but the Lady Lynx's defense quickly clamped down on any other Plainedge chances and came away with a well earned win.
Lady Pumas 2 - Lynbrook 0
For the first time this season, the Pumas found serious opposition and they had to work hard to come away with the victory! Even though our girls had the best of the play, they weren't able to get on the board until late in the first half, when Evelin touchd the back of the net.
Determined to get the three points, Monika, Rosemary and Jessica S. were outstanding on preserving the thin margin until Liz made the long pass that Sabrina converted into the second goal. Allison and Laurie, with several key saves, were the last guarantors of this important victory.
A very well fought battle, Ladies! Keep focused and you'll certainly be rewarded!
Lady Tigers 5 - RVC 1
The Big Blue Scoring Machine was in overdrive with smooth performances by goal scorers Jaime Bourazeris, Debra Prevete (plus one assist), and Nicole Cavallaro with a hat trick. The Tigers scored three times in the first half, one on an exceptional cross field pass from Dana Hammer who had two assists on the day. The Tigers were extremely quick at anticipating most passes. Ali Timpano covered the entire field and controlled the midfield. Intelligent plays from Raquel Cantor and Francine Leung protected their team's lead. Catie Loskofsky was using her strong blast to keep the ball down throughout the game. The entire team made a contribution to this win!
Thundercats 9 - Levittown Light Bolts 0
The Thundercats were focused on winning this game. Outstanding aggressive ball control prevailed throughout the game. Maria Saitta, Elise Messina, Becky Heineman and Analise Siciliano each captured two goals. Samantha Sopilnick claimed one on a beautiful pass from Colleen Marino. Cindy Scianablo with precision passes assisted on goal number four. Ali Antman quarterbacked the Thundercats to another shutout.
Lady Cougars 1 - Massapequa Magic 1
Alison Kiernan supplied some early offense but the forwards couldn't capitalize. The Magic scored first in the second half on a breakaway despite the Magic player being clearly offside. However, the Ladies did rebound late in the game on a goal by Allie Bresso on assists by Stefanie Kovacic and Dena Wlodarczyk, Nicole Dobranski led the defense while goalie Samantha Laszlo provided the potion for the Magic's spell. Teresa we miss you!
Saber Cats 1 - Hewlett 1
The Saber Cats played well in the first half, keeping the ball on the Hewlett side. Hillary Depowski sent the ball down the field with a kick to Nicole Davis for the goal. Christina Bognacki and Cristina Cannella played well on defense and Jessica Fliegel played well at midfield. Kristin Armon and Danielle Cass made their presence known on offense.
In the second half, Hewlett played much better and scored a goal.
Once again, Michaila Masci went all the way at goalie and played well.
Firecats 2 - Bayside Queens 3
The Firecats are rapidly cornering the market on close-but-not-quite efforts. A lethargic first 50 minutes saw the Firecats fall into an 0-2 hole. The climb back began with a clever free kick from Christine Maulion to Mary McFarland to Melissa Suarez for the score. Bayside increased their pressure but the Firecats' defense was equal to the task. Melissa completed the comeback with another nifty score. With about three minutes remaining, a questionable foul call gave Bayside a penalty kick which they converted for the victory.
Kickcats 0 - Massapequa 2
We played excellent two-way soccer, however we didn't put the ball into the net.
Katie and Devon shared the goaltending duties and both played well. We all welcome back Lisa who made her presence known on the field. Ilana, Janyne and Michele all had big games and kept Massapequa backing up.
Next week we go on the road and if we duplicate today's effort we'll come home victorious!
"Keep Kicking, Kickcats!"
Lightning Cats 0 - Sachem Mohicans 3
The Lightning Cats did not show up to play today. If it weren't for the incredible goalkeeping by Sarah Ricchuiti and Colleen Grace, we would have been destroyed. Time after time Sachem shot on our goal only to be turned away by Sarah or Colleen. I cannot say enough about how fantastic our goalkeepers played today.
Today, Nicole Desimone and Katie Roth were the only field players to have a good game.
StrayCats 1 - West Hempstead Thunder 2
Today, the StrayCats played what might have been their strongest game but unfortunately came up on the short end of a 2 to 1 defeat. The girls dominated mt of the game but found themselves down by two goals at the end of the half. Alison Fliegel found the back of the net for a goal with 10 minutes left. Strong games for Lauren DeSimone and Megan Stevens who both provided strong passing throughout the game. X'Ania Saldana played the entire game in goal and came up with some nice saves. Ashley Campson provided some big kicks nearly scoring on a direct kick. Nicole Southern and Beth DeMarco played aggressively and were instrumental in keeping West Hempstead on the defense most of the game. Once again the final score does not show how the team dominated the game. Soccer is a game of capitalizing on mistakes and taking advantage of opportunities. Today we came up a little short but the coaches are confident the StrayCats will put it all together. The StrayCats, coaches and families wish Doda Nikic the best of luck and look forward to his return to the sidelines.
Cougars 7 - Farmingdale Vipers 2
The goalscoring was led by Chris DiCicco (hat trick), Jonathan Turnbaugh (2), Dan Reilly and Jonathan Salguero. Although the score indicates otherwise, the first half was close and the Cougars' great defensive effort was led by Paul Hyatt, Conrad Tenenbaum and Mark Russo. Andrew Herrick took charge in the goaltending department, with probably his best effort of the seaon. Fine all-around game from Jessie Walden.
Including the last three games of the Columbus Day Tournament, the Cougars have won six consecutive games by a combined 26 to 5 goal margin. All the boys are giving 100 percent effort and playing together as a team. Keep it going, Cougars!
Crazycats 4 - Oyster Bay 3
The Crazycats were down 3-1 at the half, but came back the second half scoring three goals and shutting down their opponents. Stephen Rampulla finished from a solid shot by Jason Fishman. Rewarded for a hand ball in the box, Joe Fontana converted on a great P.K. Stephen's cross to Jason was our tying goal and Chris Corey scored the winning goal. Exceptional game by our keepers.
Magic Cats 6 - Elmont Rage 2
The Magic Cats came out shooting against their arch rival Elmont Rage. The first half was a defensive battle and ended in a 0-0 tie. The boys came on fire in the second half. Mike Makowenskyj started the scoring. Dan Aruch used his fancy footwork to score our second goal. Pasquale Imbriano scored the third goal using his head on a corner kick by Justin Soluri. Chris Garcia scored our fourth goal on an assist by Pasquale Imbriano. Pasquale used his speed to score on a breakaway. Danny Fini added the sixth goal on a nice shot.
Pumas 2 - Franklin Sq. 0
The Pumas put it all together today and dominated from the start. Total team play was the story in this game. Goals were scored by Chris Kassoff and Chris Ganz, with assists by Seth Levine (2) and Ryu Kawana. Frankie Tlockowski and Joe Tempone controlled the midfield play throughout the game. Superb defense by Giovanni Palazzo and Chris Brewer helped our goalies on the shut out.
The Stormcats short circuited the Oceanside Chargers in this battle of U-11 Division One Titans. Eric Andreuzzi started the extravaganza with an opposite field netter with an assist from Joe Marrano. Then a couple of minutes later, Justin Brobst (four assists) fed Joe Marrano for his first of three goals. NHP's defense, led by Robby Kassoff and Robert Morici, kept the Oceanside offense in check. Right before the half, Justin made a beautiful steal, sent it to Joe who slipped one past the diving goalie.
The second half started with our new offensive weapon Alex Neystat scoring twice with both assists going to Justin. Justin and Joe teamed up one more time to make it 6-2. Daniel Duras, although double and triple teamed the whole game, stifled the defense. Danny Gangale was wonderful in goal. "The Boys are Back." Well done boys!
Tigers 4 - Oceanside 1
The Tigers dominated this early morning road game with a great team effort. Rich Caridi opened the scoring. Brendon Schweitzer banged home a rebound for the second goal, set up by excellent mid-field play by Ray Anderson. Dan Goldberg added goal three on a nice feed from Carmine Gironda. Then Rich Caridi blasted home a loose ball to close out the scoring. Great defense by Dylan Mayer and Luigi M. was complemented by the strong goaltending of Sean McGonigle and Nick Fishman.
Bengals 2 - Franklin Square 2
It seemed like the only thing on the Bengals' mind was trick or treating today. Nice passing from Ryan C. to Tom J. to Matt who put the first goal in. Second goal was from John K. to Matt. Chris L., and Seb kept the ball moving up front. Ryan L. kept vbusy helping our goalie Tom Heller, who has played exceptional the last two games.
Lazercats 3 - Copiague 3
Steve Zendzian started off the game with a goal right into the corner pocket. Second goal came from a smart pass by Jason Lacertosa to Hector Jaramillo into the net from Adam Ilardi. Third goal by Adam Ilardi again with a bullet into the net. The goalie stood there with amazement. Chris Nyberg had a great game as sweeper. Goalie Alex Mirica had many shots on goal, however, again he preserved the tie!
Battlecats 2 - Copiague 3
An intense game between teams tied for Divisional 1st Place marred by a referee. The sweet corner kick goal of Chris Siracusa to Chris Sigmund. Minutes later, Andrew Simms answered the call scoring on a major effort. Guercio and Rob Snell created many offensive opportunities. Notable efforts at midfield from Brian Eilbott. Jeff Moculeski doubled his efforts on both defense and midfield. Frank Crecco gave his usual all out work ethics on defense. A worthy effort by all.
United 3 - Metro Stars 2
Super game by United. Goals scored by Danny Catapano (2) and Mike Milillo paced the offense. Strong wing play by Frankie Pate, Zachary Moskowitz and Danny Gardner. Joey and Justin Weiss played awesome midfield. Chris Mercadante and Nick Bugilio were super.

Total team effort displayed by Cedric Pizzagalli, Ronak Amin, Frank Fabiano and Omar Ezat (one assist). Another strong midfield performance by Romulo Fajardo and Matthew Uy. Mario Costa supplied the offensive pressure giving him a hat trick.
Panthers played their hearts out and played great despite being down one player. Andrew Morici scored on a perfectly placed penalty shot. Danny Romagnoli sent in our second goal. Good defense by Zach Ricchiuiti and A.J. Brown. Great offensive pressure by Brijen Patel and Sean Carton.
Little Giants 2 - Rough Riders 3

Express 2 - Impact 3
Great effort by Express in a tough loss to Impact. Goalkeeping from John Coster kept us in the game as Kei Suke Homma and Sean Rogers scored. Solid defense by Warren Kelly and Gary Mancini.
Another exciting come from behind victory for Impact. Charlie Cipriano's play in goal was spectacular. Twice he leaped in the air to stop high, hard shots. Makis Konstantatos used his hard, accurate shot to put three balls past the tough Express keeper. Robert Maer helped shut down the opponents by controlling the middle of the field. Michael Cracchiola showed hustle and hard work at right wing.
Manchester United 5 - Rockers 1
Sam Miller's brilliant defensive play sparked Manchester United to victory. Midfielders Patrick Nicoll, Greg Fink and Eric Wendt each contributed a goal in addition to their fine play at mid. Frank DiMaria was an offensive threat on left forward and passed with skill. George Esparza scored twice and Michael Santelesa took charge in the second half to seal the victory.
The Rockers were no match for the mighty United team in the first half. In the second half the Rockers came to life and battled hard. Alan Joseph scored the goal off a Mike Rocco pass. Anthony Fini played tough defense in the sweeper position. Andrew Bottenhofer was aggressive at midfield.
Manchester United 4 - Express 2
In our toughest game this year, Manchester United was finally able to derail the relentless attack of Express. Down 2-1, Michael Santelesa tied the game with a fine shot. Eric Wendt sent home the game winner with a blast to the upper left corner late in the second half and George Esparza added the insurance goal. Brian Yu played another solid game as keeper.
Tough loss for the Express to a strong Manchester United. Goals scored by Sean Rogers and Alex Douris. Excellent game played by Ron Prado, Matt Henderson and Chris McKenna on defense.
Panthers 2 - Fusion 5
Playing short handed, the Panthers gave a good battle. The first goal was scored by Dan Romagnoli with an assist by Sean Carton. Great defensive effort by Chris Crerand, Brijen Patel and Zach Ricchiuti. Great midfield play by A.J. Brown. The second goal was scored by Sean Carton on a perfectly placed penalty shot. Great goaltending by Jim Clark and Anthony Bonilla.
The boys showed that they are not ready to write this season off. Kevin Hiebler played another great game in goal with solid defensive help from Derek Cheung and Eric Gerwatowski. Andrew Montoni controlled the midfield. Damien Sabatino made a great pass to Jonathan DeFelice who scored the first of his two goals (glad to have you back Jonathan). Joey Venizia showed his offensive skills by putting two in the net. Chris Taglich finished off the scoring by adding two of his own.
