This past weekend many boys and girls competed in tournaments. We're very proud of their accomplishments!

We have a very strong intramural program which allows our travel teams to be competitive and successful.

Kudos to all!

This Saturday, join us at Denton Avenue School at 10 a.m. for our 2nd Annual Tournament for Special Soccer. This is what it's all about...children, parents, relatives and friends coming together and having fun. Seeing the smiles on the faces of these boys and girls is reward for all.

Don't forget to mark your calendar for Friday, Nov. 6, the date of our 20th Anniversary celebration to be held at the New Hyde Park Inn. A special thanks from me to all the coaches on their superb effort in getting their articles to me on time and all your phone calls regarding the articles. It is much appreciated.

Game 1

NHP 2 - Northport 1

Cindy, Samantha and Elise had many shots on goal. The defense of Jenna, Paige, Rebecca and Cindy Luk stopped the offense in their tracks. Colleen and Sara at midfield played tough, sending up many leads for the forwards. The first goal was a cross from Colleen that hit off a Northport Player. Goal number two was a shot from Colleen off Maria into the goal.

Game 2

NHP 0 - VOB 3

The girls played hard this game and though they had many shots on goal they couldn't find the back of the net. Ali saved many shots on goal with some awesome hard work.

Game 3

NHP 5 - Stony Brook 3

Ali had a wonderful game. They were up for this game. Colleen banged goal one outside the 18 meter box. Analise scored goal two off a cross from Colleen off her body. Cindy Scianablo blasted in goal three and five on a corner kick from Maria. Rebecca stepped up from fullback and blasted it in. Jenna and Cindy Luk were awesome in defense. Sara was all over the field.

Game 4

NHP 4 - Plainedge 2

The girls outplayed Plainedge with beautiful passing. The first goal was an indirect shot from Maria. Goal two was a beautiful shot from Analise. Goal three was from Maria and goal four was put in by Paige. Jenna, Rebecca and Cindy Luk worked hard in defense. Colleen and Sara controlled the midfield. Cindy and Elise pressed the goal all game. Ali played super in goal.

Game 5

NHP 2 - Farmingdale 1

This was a must win to take first place. The first half ended with Farmingdale scoring. The girls came out the second half determined and controlling the field. They scored fast. Analise sent a beautiful pass to Maria who sent it in. Goal two again came from another pass from Analise to Elise. Ali made some beautiful saves in goal. Colleen, Sara, Jenna, and Rebecca outmoved and never gave the Farmingdale team a chance to touch the ball. Paige and Cindy Luk were like a wall. Cindy Scianablo and Samantha kept the pressure on. Congratulations to all the girls for their hard work and perserverance, proving they belong in division one. Your coaches are very proud of you!

Lady Tigers 3 - Massapequa 0

The Lady Tigers opened the tournament by avenging their loss two weeks ago against the team from Massapequa. Center forward Nicole Cavallaro maintained a team tradition by scoring the first tourney goal from assists by Dana Hammer and Jamie Bourazeris. Nicole returned the favor with an assist back to Jamie for the second goal. The Lady Tigers' defense dominated the game with all-star performances by Raquel Cantu and Francine Leung. The Lady Tigers closed the door with a third goal from Ali Timpano to Nicole who sealed the victory. Tiger goalkeeper Lyndsey DeSarbo was outstanding and recorded yet another shutout (8) to earn the team a bonus point with the win.

Lady Tigers 3 - Larchmont 2

Game two on Saturday was perhaps the greatest game played by the Lady Tigers this year. The girls were down 2-0 early in the second half but showed that they can be the "comeback kids." Jamie to Nicole got the Lady Tigers on the scoreboard to initiate the game's reversal of momentum. Marion Delapena and Domanie Kokkoris were critical in shutting down Larchmont's offensive attack. Dana Hammer blasted in a rebound off the keeper that tied the score at two. With only minutes left, the Tigers again started teeing off on the Larchmont goalie and Hammer nailed a rebound into the left side of the goal for the thrilling 3-2 victory.

Lady Tigers 3 - Plainedge 0

Dana Hammer resumed her offensive display by knocking in two goals in the first half. Head-to-head tackles by Domanie Kokkoris and Vanessa Canner had the opposition out-muscled. Finesse ball-handling skills of Debra Prevete assisted in the offensive attack. In the second half, Ali Timpano perfectly timed an interception off a goal kick to sneak a third goal. Lyndsey DeSarbo recorded her ninth shutout for the team.

Lady Tigers 0 - Northport 1

With a championship playoff spot already secured, the big, blue scoring machine of the Tigers went into neutral in game four. Forwards Denise PRevete and Raquel Cantu helped the Tigers control the offensive field. Tiger defense was excellent as usual in keeping the scoring to a minimum and Catie Loskofsky and Francine Leung combined for 15 take-aways that halted the Northport pressure.

Lady Tigers 2 - Northport 1

Championship Game

The Lady Tigers celebrated Columbus Day with a first place trophy. The Tigers scored first in a magnificent shot off the left goal post by Jamie Bourazemis. The Tigers' defense was again spectacular and included two goal saving tackles by Francine Leung and tough one-on-one play from Domanie Kokkoris and Denise Prevete. The winning goal came with three minutes left on a cross-body rocket by Nicole Cavallaro. The girls played a magnificent tourney!

Stray Cats 3 - Stony Brook 0

Stray Cats 1 - East Meadow 0

Stray Cats 0 - Port Washington 0

Stray Cats 2 - W. Babylon 0

Stray Cats 6 - Bethpage 1

It was the coaches plan this Columbus Day weekend for the team to use the Brentwood Tournament to get in shape for the remainder of the season and work on their game. Well let me tell you, Stray Cats got game! The team compiled a four win one tie record on their way to a first place finish. The team scored the most goals in the tournament (12) while allowing the least goals (1). Jessica Busardo was the tournament's leading scorer with a total of seven goals. In game five, Jessie had a hat trick plus one as the team nailed down first. Once again the team defense was rock solid. Ashley Campson narrowly missed a goal on a direct kick from way outside the 18 meter in game three. Playing midfield, Lauren C. consistently shut down our opponents. Beth seems never to panic in her position as she comes out of nowhere and steps up to challenge and shuts down any attack. Alison Fliegel alternated between forward and mid field. Her rocket shots resulted in two goals and some nice passes earned an assist in game five. Lauren DeSimone was either charging up the middle to take a shot or rushing back to help out on D. Lauren's soccer sense and anticipation of the play accounted for a big part of this weekend's success. Kristina DiCostanzo, around the net, took the fight out of Bethpage for good. When Michelle Galante gets in the game her speed puts the opposition defense on their heels. She notched the winning goal in game four on a breakaway. Mary Hess hasn't been playing the backfield very long but this weekend she saw a lot of action to fine tune her game. Mary's speed came into play as she made three nice plays on balls right on the goal line. Eileen Hunt, using her body to battle full backs deep into thir zone and then crossing the ball, was a frequent sight. Jessica Lippolis has played every position for the Stray Cats. This weekend her fullback play was solid and key in allowing the opposition only one goal. Keri Lippolis' speed and agility were keys in setting up scoring opportunities for the team. If a coach is smiling it might be because he has a strong goalie. This weekend the Stray Cat coaches had big grins because this team has two dynamite goalies. Vicki Nikic and X'Ania Saldana sharing the nets this weekend were sensational. Allowing just one goal and four shutouts is some kind of weekend. Solid and inspired Lindsay Rella, this weekend, is usually in the middle of the action and this weekend showed some fine dribbling skills. Alyson Rose coming out of the pile with the ball was no exception this weekend. Alyson is making it an art form of stealing balls on throw-ins and keeping the ball in play when everyone else has given up. Once Nicole Southern has the ball there are few offensive players who can get it away. Megan Stevens, recovering from an ankle injury, was unable to play on Saturday. However, her enthusiasm is contagious and her leadership evident as she helped rally the team to two victories. Making her return to the field on Sunday and Monday led to earning the most assists this tournament and a goal of her own. Our thanks to all the moms, dads and friends of the Stray Cats for making this an enjoyable experience for the team. Congratulations to the Stray Cats for putting it all together Monday morning. If we pick up this Sunday where we left off Monday morning then our season will be a success!

Saturday

Game 1

Kickcats 1 - Sachem 2

Game 2

Kickcats 2 - Carmel 1

Sunday

Game 1

Kickcats 1 - Northport 5

Game 2

Kickcats 3 - East Meadow 2

Monday Playoffs

Kickcats 1 - Carmel 1

We finished in a third place tie, however, we lost the shoot-out 4-2. The first game we played against Sachem. We were tied 1-1 late in the game on Jessica's goal, assisted by Kristina and Michele. A free kick deflected off a Kickcat and, of course, it went into the net and we had a loss as time expired.

Game two was against a physical team from Carmel. Shaina on a burst put the Kickcats up 1-0 early. We got our second goal on a smart play from Kaitlin, who took advantage of a goalie mistake.

The Kickcats didn't wake up until halftime. Ladies, when you play Northport you have to be awake before you get to the field. Janyne kept us from getting shut-out by blasting one into the net.

Game 4 was against East Meadow. Amanda (not to be denied) had two goals and Kaitlin notched another for the victory.

Playoffs: One more time against Carmel with the Kickcats going up early on Janyne's blast. We attacked constantly and played the best two-way soccer we have all year. One more deflection found its way into the Kickcat goal and we went to a shoot-out, which we lost.

Kickcats, if we continue to play with this kind of intensity and desire, we will probably win Division 1 this season. Getting some of our injured players back will probably help also. Get well Lisa, Katie and Marissa. We all miss you. Special thanks to Devon who played goal in all our games and came up big time after time.

Michele, Ilana, Janyne, Marielle, Devon, Bridget, Kaitlyn, Anna, Kristina, Jessica, Katie, Lisa, Marissa, Shaina and Amanda - nice job.

Keep Kicking Kickcats.

Lady Lynx Take 3rd Place

Lady Lynx 2 - Lake Grove Blue Flame 4

The Lady Lynx were never ahead in this one but boldly answered the first two Lake Grove goals with goals of their own. The first by Tracy Rostholter and the second on a precision shot by Honor Adams off a great feed from Jaime Silverman, which carried the Lady Lynx to the half tied at 2-2. Experience became a key factor as Lake Grove pulled away from the girls and went on to win.

Lady Lynx 5 - Cold Spring Harbor Cobras 1

The Lady Lynx, with a "shut up and play" attitude, bounced back in their second game with a relentless offensive attack bolstered by a ferocious defense led by Brigid Fee and the fine goalkeeping of Katie Gilroy and Caitie Clark. The goals came fast and furious but only as the result of great teamwork and pinpoint passing as Tracy Rostholter put us on the board first. Not to be outdone, Adriana Cavallaro scored the second goal and was followed by Jenny Tempone who fought thru the defense and scored on her own rebound. Jennifer Jung iced the win with two quality goals of her own.

Lady Lynx 0 - West Islip Blue Thunder 3

No doubt about it, the Ladies took one on the chin in this game and were outplayed by a division 2 team who went on to win the tournament. On a positive note, the play of the Lady Lynx midfield is to be commended. Without the tenacious play of Michelle Contrada, Jennifer Jung and Jackie Nese the results could have been far more damaging.

Lady Lynx 2 - Dix Hills Comets 1

This was our true test of the weekend, a game in which the Lady Lynx dug in and fought a battle which left our girls covered in dirt and sweat and just a little banged up. The Lady Lynx prevailed only by virtue of an awesome defensive effort led by Vivian Quan, Kaitie Gilroy and Brigid Fee who scored the winning goal on a laser shot from 25 meters out. Tracy Rostholter, again, scored the first goal for the Ladies.

Lady Lynx 4 - Cold Spring Harbor Cobras 0

The Lady Lynx jumped out quickly led by Tracy Rostholter's fourth goal of the tournament and the Lady Lynx never looked back. Sandwiched in between goals by Lora Tloczkowski and Jennifer Jung was a beautiful strike by Michelle Contrada who scored her first goal of the season after having assisted on the majority of Lady Lynx goals. Tracy Rostholter excelled on both sides of the ball as she combined with Caitie Clark for the shutout.

The Aristocats went west to compete in the Parsippanny Pride Tournament and finished with a solid record of two wins and one loss, just one point short of qualification for the championship game.

Game 1

Aristocats 4 - Cranford Cobras 1

In their opening game, the Aristocats got an early eye-opener when the Cranford team knocked in a quick goal. Apparently that was the signal for the team to turn it on, as the girls took charge of the game from that point onward. Suzie Jozkowski continued to drive down the left side and was able to break free and angle home the tying goal. Diana Cotilletta had a strong game. She stepped in to win a ball and drive a long shot into the net. The team from Cranford kept the pressure on, but our defense, the three A's, got the job done, namely Alison Art, Alicia Ezat, and Alison Luby. Diana Amoroso stepped into the net to protect the lead, making several spectacular saves. Diana Cotilletta made a beautiful feed to Suzie Jozkowski for the 3-1 lead. Theresa Piliero showed she knows how to capitalize when she ran onto a crossed ball and solidly planted it into the goal.

Game 2

Aristocats 2 - Parsippany Hurricanes 3

Parsippany struck first and their skill controlled the early play. Fighting the weather and a bigger opponent, the Aristocats scratched and clawed their way back into the game by sheer determination. Suzie Jozkowski made a beautiful pin-point pass to Jennifer Fabian who punched in the tying goal. The remainder of the first half was a tense nailbiter as these two teams battled evenly to a 1-1 tie. Theresa Piliero was great in the net in the first half, keeping the team in the game. Parsippany capitalized on a couple of mistakes on the slippery field to take a two goal lead. Our girls made us proud as they never hung their heads, but continued to battle until the final whistle. Standing out were the efforts of Alyson Bader and Lauren Marra with some classy midfield play. Our combination of Alicia DeMarco and Ashley Felcon showed they were up to the best their opposition could throw at them. The team scored in the last minute on a scramble in front of the Parsippany goal.

Game 3

Aristocats 8 - Mendham Magic 0

The girls began the game in high gear with rapid fire goals coming from Emily Ocner, Suzie Jozkowski and Jennifer Fabian in the first ten minutes. Diana Amoroso fought hard to win a ball deep in the box and drove home a pretty goal. Strong, aggressive midfield play was provided by Alyson Bader and Lauren Marra who also shared second half goalkeeping duties. Melissa Fulgenzi impressed us throughout the weekend with her skillful, lightning fast play at both forward and midfield; she scored a beautiful second half goal. Emily Ocner, Diana Cotilletta and Suzie Jozkowski scored the other second half goals.

The girls finished the weekend with a solid record of two wins, and one loss, that loss a close 3-2 loss to the division champ Parsippany which cost the girls a shot at the championship game. All the Aristocats came home proud of their efforts throughout a weekend of quality soccer and with memories of the fun we shared away for the weekend. They showed us that there is no "I' in team as each and every girl contributed in a meaningful way to the team's success. Great job, girls! A special thanks to all of our Aristocat families whose support and helpfulness made the weekend such a great time for all of us.

Although the Cheshire Cats played some outstanding soccer this weekend, a scoring drought led to us finishing out of the final trophies. The girls won one, tied three and lost one (in a shootout) to finish fourth.

We started the tournament slowly against Sachem. Michelle Cohen gave us a fine game for one of her two shutouts as keeper. Laura Carey, Sarah Mahan and Athena Chen were rock solid at fullback. Stephanie Chan provided a tremendous job at stopper and halfback. Jennifer Noone and Julia Rowinsky gave us a couple of excellent offensive opportunities but we could not convert. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.

Our second game was against a tough Valley Stream team. The Cats dominated most of this game. Megan Heinemann, Miriam Varghese, and Jami Cantwell controlled the middle of the field. Danielle Young put on a dribbling and ball control exhibition. Katie Warren and Alison Dehler-Barnett helped maintain a strong offensive surge. However, again we could get nothing in and found ourselves behind 1-0 late in the game. With everyone except the goalie charging offensively, Meaghan O'Leary found Lisa Virzera with a pinpoint pass to nail the tying goal with 15 seconds to play.

We now faced an excellent Northport team and a situation where we felt we had to win to have a chance for first. This was the finest moment for Athena, Sarah, and Lisa who shared fullback duties throughout the game. We played with only three for part of the game and only two back after we had fallen behind. However, they stopped any threat by Northport of lengthening their lead and they allowed us to apply offensive pressure on what was a very good defensive team. Miriam, Kara Beardsley and Michelle LaBarbera kept pushing and setting up opportunities. Jami and Stephanie controlled the middle. However, it remained for Jenna Bresso and Laura to use a quick one-two passing combination to spring Julia for a breakaway goal to net another tie.

The tie with Northport had left us with only an outside chance to make the playoffs for first. However, the girls would do everything they could against Syosset to increase that chance. Jenna and Michelle L. made several passes to each other in front of the Syosset goal until Michelle finished one of Jenna's assists. Danielle and Meghan combined in keeper for an outstanding shutout. Jennifer and Katie used their excellent passing skills to set up good opportunities. Alison and Megan connected with an excellent combination in the corner to set up Kara for the insurance goal and the 2-0 win.

Despite the win we still found ourselves playing in the finals for third and not first. Michelle C. was outstanding in notching another shutout and was even better in stopping almost everything in the shootout. Unfortunately, we could not find the net ourselves and Sachem got to celebrate the trophy. This was the first time the Cheshire Cats had finished a tournament without a trophy. However, the girls deserve a "well done" as they played with spirit throughout and never gave up. We will get them next time.

Game 1

Lady Cougars 3 - Kearny Thistle F.C. 1

The Cougars came out storming right from the opening whistle and took control of the game. Stefanie Kovacic and Nicole Denara combined to set up Kim Carini for the first goal. S. Kovacic then made a nice drop pass to Nicole Denara who scored to make it 2-0 at the half. In the second half our defense of Dena Wlodarczyk, Nicole Dobranski, Caitlin Kennedy and Jessica Connaughton held their ground stopping anything that penetrated our zone. S. Kovacic put the game out of reach when she stole the ball and buried her shot for a 3-0 lead. Kearney Thistle capitalized off a scramble in front late in the game for their lone score.

Game 2

Lady Cougars 6 - Buckingham Lightning 0

The ladies had a much easier game with a team from Pennsylvania. The goals were scored by Stefanie Kovacic (3), Kim Carini (2), and Andrea Flori (1). The assists went to Teresa Ferraro (2), Allie Bresso and Alison Kiernan. Tough team defense held the lightning to 0 shots making it easy for goalies Samantha Laszlo and Allie Bresso. Credit the Cougars for playing under such lousy rainy conditions most of the weekend.

Game 3

Lady Cougars 1 - Milburn Mischief 1

Both teams entered the game with a 2-0 record. The Milburn team proved right from the start that they were of equal talent pressuring our goalie Samantha Laszlo the entire first half. Their ball control was terrific but our girls held them to only one goal in the first half. The Cougars played a lot better in the second half and after some nice setups Stefanie Kovacic tied the game at 1-1. That's how it ended and the Cougars ended the preliminary rounds tied for first place with the team from Milburn. Unfortunately, due to the unusual setup by the tournament directors we were eliminated from the championship game.

Saber Cats 0 - Lindenhurst 3

The Saber Cats defense played very tough in the first half. Alison Stern, Cristina Cannella and Hillary Depowski anchored the defense and kept Lindenhurst scoreless in the first half.

In the second half, Lindenhurst scored three goals. Nicole Davis, Christina Bognacki and Danielle Cass had good shots on goal that just missed their mark.

Saber Cats 1 - Garden City Park 1

In the second game, the Saber Cats played with great intensity. The Saber Cats' defensive curtain closed and kept Garden City Park outside of scoring range for most of the game. Good defensive play from Stefanie Russotto, Cristina Cannella and Hillary Depowski.

The Saber Cats were called for a tripping foul inside their box which gave Garden City Park a penalty shot and a goal. The Saber Cats were not going to take another loss.

A great pass from Jessica Fliegel gave Maiken Bursig the opportunity to score our goal. Also, some good offensive plays from Kristin Arman, Courtney Campson and Danielle Cass. A great game from Michaela Masci who played goalie for the entire game.

Saber Cats 1 - Northport 1

Northport scored their goal early in the game. The Saber Cats' offense kept knocking at the Northport goal but couldn't get the ball to fall into the net. Some good offensive plays from Kristin Arman, Danielle Cass, Nicole Davis and Maiken Bursig.

Northport got called for a hand ball in the box. Cristina Cannella took the penalty shot and scored. The defense held Northport scoreless for the balance of the game. The game ended 1-1.

Saber Cats 0 - Farmingdale 0

The Saber Cats faced a very talented and physical Farmingdale team. However, they met the challenge well. The offense managed to keep the ball at the Farmingdale goal for a good part of the first half but could not score. Some good offensive plays from Cristina Cannella, Courtney Campson and Stefanie Russotto.

The defense played outstanding. Christina Bognacki, Laura Galante, Jessica Fliegel and Hillary Depowski would not allow Farmingdale to score a goal. Michaela Masci played goalie, with a sore knee, for the entire game and played outstanding. The defense played an excellent game. The game ended without a goal.

Saber Cats 0 - Rockville Centre 3

Rockville Centre jumped out to an early two goal lead. The Saber Cats' defense stiffened for the rest of the game and did not allow a goal. Laura Galante, Cristina Cannella and Christina Bognacki made some good plays on defense. The midfielders, Hillary Depowski and Jessica Fliegel, had a good game.

Rockville Centre scored the third goal on a penalty shot. Maiken Bursig and Nicole Davis had shots that just missed the goal.

The Saber Cats played well against some very good teams. Good tournament girls!

Game 1

Bengals 2 - West Babylon 2

The Bengals came out ready to play. Tom H., Tom J. and Chris L. worked hard up front keeping the pressure on giving Matt the support he needed to score the first goal. The defense kept strong with Sal and James never giving up, playing their hardest. Within minutes left in the game, Matt had a breakaway, popping the ball over the goalie to tie up the game.

Game 2

Bengals 1 - Albertson 1

Playing our rivals, this was a very defensive game for the Bengals. Ryan C. played very offensively and his corner kicks were very impressive. John K. got a great opportunity to put the lone goal in the net for the team. Tremendous defense from Pete, Jon M., Ryan L. and Fernando who made it very hard for the opponents to get through and giving the team a well deserved tie we needed. Chris S. had the great saves in net, keeping the game close.

Game 3

Bengals 4 - Babylon 3

The first goal was from a skillful assist from Tom H. off his head to Matt. Our second goal was from a well-placed kick off of John K. Third goal came from Matt on a breakaway and around the goalie. Ryan L., Sal and James got a good workout in defense with the opponents. With under a minute left in the game, Matt had another breakaway, getting the ball around the goalie and into the net giving the Bengals the win and him a hat trick!

Game 4

Bengals 3 - Auburndale 1

The Bengals proved themselves in this game against an aggressive Auburndale team and some questionable non-calls by the referee. Ryan C.'s left foot was hot today with two beautiful goals. With some smooth moves, Matt took one down the field and around the goalie for a great shot. Strong mid-field playing from James, Tommy H., and Seb. Our defense took a beating from this team, but Pete, Ryan L., and John M. kept the score close.

Game 5

Bengals 3 - Commack 0

The boys came out knowing they needed this win to stay in the running for first place, and they all did their jobs. Only a few minutes went by when Matt put the first goal in the net. Fernando scored the next goal, which was a beauty assist by Ryan L. The last goal was a magnificent cross by Ryan C. to Chris L. who popped it into the net. Some great saves in net by Chris S. to secure the shut out. The Bengals should be very proud of their performance in this very competitive tournament.

Game 1

Magic Cats 6 - Deer Park 1

The Magic Cats did not waste time as Pasquale Imbriano erupted into a burst of speed and scored a hat trick to lead the charge. Justin Soluri turned on his jets and scored two goals and Dan Aruch, playing heads up soccer, placed a shot into the net. Deer Park could not penetrate the defensive wall of Mike Nathan, John Fini, Peter Zappulla and Patrick Carton.

Game 2

Magic Cats 0 - Patchogue Medford 1

In what turned out to be a defensive struggle, the boys came up short against a tough division team. The midfield of Mike Makowenskyj, Robby Nilsen, Dan Fini continually fed the ball to the forward line. However, our shots just would not go in. Another stellar performance by Matt Bender in goal.

Game 3

Magic Cats 2 - Auburndale 1

In what turned out to be one of the most exciting games of the match, the boys faced an Auburndale team which always seems to play at a higher intensity against us. The boys fall behind 1-0 quickly and Pasquale Imbriano began the comeback as he placed a rocket into the net.

Our defense once again kept us in the game as John Fini was solid as a rock along with Mike Nathan and Steve Stallone, who continually stopped the charge. Justin Soluri and Chris Garcia led the offensive push. Pasquale Imbriano regained his composure after being struck in the face with the ball and scored our winning goal with time running out. Some outstanding saves in goal by Matt Bender.

Game 4

Magic Cats 5 - Massapequa 0

The boys came out shooting once again and took advantage of Massapequa's mistakes. Chris Garcia was charged up as he scored two goals, one on a perfectly placed penalty shot. Pasquale, playing aggressive soccer scored two goals. Justin Soluri using his speed and fancy footwork added another goal. The Magic Cats would like to welcome Joe Romeo to the team who displayed some nice hustle in the midfield. Mike Makowenskyj and Evan Chen continually controlled the midfield.

Game 5

Magic Cats 3 - Northport 2

This game, the boys showed that they were ready for the challenge. Dan Fini started the attack and scored the first goal. Pasquale once again took charge and scored our second goal and for the lead. Northport came back to make it even at two. Justin Soluri put the icing on his birthday celebration as he sent a rocket into the net on a pass by Joe Romeo to win the game. Once again the defensive wall of Patrick Carton, Mike Nathan, Steve Stallone, Peter Zappulla and John Fini could not be penetrated. Another outstanding performance in goal by Matt Bender. The boys' effort and determination earned them second place trophies. The coaches want to thank the boys and the parents for making this a memorable weekend of soccer!

In their first tournament as a travel team, the Tigers come home with a second place trophy with a record of 3-2 and two shutouts.

Tigers 0 - Sachem 1

Sachem scored on a rebound in the second half to get the win. The Tigers put on pressure but could not capitalize. Brendon Schweitzer controlled play at both ends of the field. Allen Williams and Dan Goldberg had good scoring chances. Great keeper play by Nick Fishman.

Tigers 2 - NCHU - 3

NCHU scored three early goals, but the Tigers kept coming. Rich Caridi netted a left footer on a nice cross from Carmine Gironda just before the half. The Tigers stayed in it when Richie C. stopped a penalty shot. Moments later, Carmine swept one home to bring the Tigers within one. The team kept up the pressure as time ran out, but it was an excellent come back effort.

Tigers 5 - RVC 1

The Tigers dominated this game throughout with a total team effort. Five different players scored goals. Brendon Schweitzer started the scoring off a corner kick. Followed by Sean McGonigle, next was Carmine Gironda which was set up by a perfect pass by Joey Mercadante, Rich Caridi followed and Dan Goldberg scored on a penalty shot. Great midfield play by Ray Anderson and Andrew Burnett.

Tigers 6 - Green Wave 0

The Tigers again completely controlled the game. Allen Williams started the scoring, and then Dan Goldberg racked up a natural hat trick plus 1 (4). Rich Caridi closed out the scoring, and also preserved the shutout with a great save. The defense of Brendon Schwitzer, Dan Wortley and Joe Mercadente was rock solid. Dylan Mayer and Luigi Muto hustled throughout.

Tigers 6 - Smithtown North Stars 0

The Tigers proved again team effort paid off. The Tigers completely dominated the game. Carmine Gironda started with the first goal with a great assist by Allen Williams. Ray Andersen followed with goal number three and four of the game. Dan Wortley continued the scoring with a well deserved birthday goal. Luigi Muto ended the game with goal number six. Excellent team effort. Andre Burnett and Dylan Mayer just missed the goal numerous times. Great goaltending by Rich Caridi and Sean McGonigle to secure the second shut-out of the tournament. Brendon Schweitzer, Joe Meradante were unbelievable in defense and never let their guard down. Nick Fishman kept the pressure on. Great team play and a well deserved win!

The Cougars finished third and lost out on second place by a two goal differential.

Unfortunately, the Cougars started out slowly on and lost two hotly contested games: 3 to 1 to the Bethpage Storm and 3 to 2 to the Glen Cove Strikers. Both games could have been won, as the Cougars applied tremendous pressure in the second half, but couldn't overcome their first half mistakes.

The third game resulted in a 7-1 victory over a gallant, but overwhelmed Hauppauge Vipers team. The entire team's passing was crisp and combined with excellent defensive and midfield plays.

The Cougars continued their excellent play on Monday which resulted in a 3-1 victory over Valley Stream in the first game and a 2-0 shutout of the Bellport Wildcats in the second game. The latter victory over Bellport was probably the Cougars best game of the season against a strong, rough and talented team.

It was great for the coaches to see the entire team play stronger and stronger as the weekend progressed, and trust that this is an indication of how the remainder of the season will progress. A special thanks to the parents for their fine support during the weekend.

The Battlecats come home proud having to settle for a third place trophy, one point out of second, losing just one game, plus having beaten Sachem, the team that finished second, and finished with a record of two wins, two ties and one loss. Also, they managed to get what no other team in the division had, three shutouts. Throughout the weekend, our offense consisted of Andrew Simms, Robbie Guercio, Richie Femia, and Robert Snell as our power forwards. Juan Flores, Leo Lumermann, Chris Sigmund, Eric Iocco, Lawrence Ziegelbaum, Brian Eilbott and Jeff Moculeski rounded out our solid midfield. The defensive efforts of Frankie Crecco, Chris Siracusa, Larry Lewandoski and Peter Burger consistently gave keeper Richie Crifasi confidence and support in many pressure situations. Coach Ted Adams and Joe Dombal thank Clare Adams, Jessica Behr, Cassandra Buonsante, Deanna Cannella, Joanna Dombal, Alyssa Kuczinski, Alexandra Nilsen, Krista Schlueck and Alyssa Tagios, all of whom contributed to an outstanding display of hard playing and good sportsmanship. Game summary as follows:

Game 1

Wildcats 0 - East Islip Blue 3

An excellent East Islip team kept offensive pressure on us throughout the game and came out on top. We stored the experience for future use.

Game 2

Wildcats 4 - Massapequa 2

Our strong opponent scored two early goals. Wildcats' girls countered with a comeback offense that led to four goals by Alyssa Kuczinski, Joanna Dombal, Alyssa Tagios and Clare Adams. Outstanding goalkeeping by Alexandra Nilsen who repelled many offensive attacks.

Game 3

Wildcats 3 - East Islip Red 1

Wildcats' girls woke up early and continued their winning ways against another formidable East Islip team. Sharpshooting striker play with two goals by Deanna Cannella and one goal by Joanna Dombal led the way for the win. Our team learned the meaning of "moving the ball up the sideline" and fully executed this soccer basic to victory!

Game 4

Wildcats 1 - East Islip Blue 0

With first place at stake, we used our first game's experience and demonstrated why the opponent can't score if we have the ball for most of the game. Forward tandem of Alexandra Nilsen, Joanna Dombal and Clare Adams pressured East Islip's outstanding goalkeeper who stopped several of our shots on the goal line. Sweeper Deanna Cannella took the goalie's punt upfield where a quick pass by Clare to Joanna gave us the winning goal. Strong goaltending by Krista Schlueck and Alexandra Nilsen kept a great opponent scoreless.

New Hyde Park thanks the East Islip Club for a well managed and exciting tournament!
