Our junior game seemed destined to end in a well-deserved tie. However, the determination and persistence of Stefani Egre paid off with a 3-2 win. Stefani's last goal capped off a hat trick for the yellow team. Our newest player, Adriana Alessi, started slowly but eventually made her presence known with some great plays at midfield. Eric Schwemmer, as usual, was a standout in goal. The red team had two goals by Lucas Epstein but time ran out before they could knot the match. Billy Russo was terrific as he gave the red team some additional offense with several hard shots at goal.

Our seniors also had a very close game and theirs did end in a 2-2 tie. Tommy Serra and Bobby Lee scored for the yellow team while Dan Downey and Robert DeTrano countered for the red. Curt Walline continues to improve as his dribbling started many attacks. Dave Corroon was the outstanding goal keeper of the game. His confidence in net was apparent as his saves appeared effortless and his punts covered most of the field. Steve Fleisher also had a good game as he made a ton of tackles and his passing continues to improve with each game. John Ferrante had a busy day as he showed his versatility by playing a great game at both ends of the field.

Featured assistants: This week highlights three men who enjoy helping out but shy away from the spotlight. They are always there to lend a hand with all the dirty work, lugging the supplies and setting up the nets. When the players arrive each week, the two sets of nets are always in place with everything ready to go. But without the help of people like this, we would have no program. Thanks to our unsung heroes: Rich Bursig, Kevin Leahy and Tony Minerva.

The New Hyde Park Lady Lynx are proud to announce the Great Beanie Baby Raffle fund raiser to benefit our team. Raffled off on Nov. 13 will be six Beanie Babies, namely, Fortune, Wise, Peace, Erin, Princess and Glory as one package. The tickets are $10 each, as only 100 raffles will be sold. Contact Joe Clark at 488-4437 or any member of the Lady Lynx family for further details or tickets.

Aristocats 3 - Valley Stream Taz 1

The Aristocats rose to the occasion against the physical Valley Stream Taz; despite missing some players, the girls rallied to play a strong match. Forward Suzie Jozkowski started the game in high gear and gave the team a couple of quality early chances, her hard work paid off early with the first goal. Our offense continued the pressure on the Taz goal with Jennifer Fabian providing some solid, speedy play at forward. Lauren Marra played strongly at one of the outside halfback positions. Theresa Piliero was there to make the saves in the net for the first half. Suzie Jozkowski blasted in a nicely angled shot to give the team a 2-0 halftime lead. Diana Amoroso stepped up when the team needed her and played a smart half in the net. Way to go, Diana! Our defense was rock solid today with Alison Luby shutting down countless Taz attacks on the outside; the intelligent play of Alison Art at sweeper anchored our back. Ashley Felcon and Alicia DeMarco had solid games controlling the center of the field, and propelling the Aristocat attack. Alicia DeMarco made a skillful control of a ball in the air, stepped up and blasted in the final goal. Today's victory was truly a team effort with all contributing to the final outcome. Great job, girls, let's continue to work hard as we prepare for our Columbus Day tournament.

Cheshire Cats 1 - South Merrick 0

The Cheshire Cats gave one of their best performances. The key was the defense. Athena Chen provided her usual solid play at sweeper. Meghan O'Leary gave a gutsy performance as stopper. Laura Carey used her power to clear ball after ball. Lisa Virzera and Sarah Mahan used both their speed and aggressiveness to beat wings to loose balls. Stephanie Chan played all three defensive slots to perfection during the afternoon. Michelle Cohen anchored the effort with a number of good saves for her third shutout. At the other end our offense provided excitement and came so close on several occasions but could not get closer until a series in which South Merrick could neither clear the ball nor their keeper pick it up in traffic right in front of the goal. Michelle LaBarbera showed a gritty determination to fight the crowd and give up the game winner.

Lady Cougars 1 - Valley Stream Heat 0

State Cup, Round One - The Lady Cougars won a nail biter against a very tough Valley Stream team. In the first half, Alison Kiernan knocked in a corner kick from Stefanie Kovacic scoring the only goal of the game. Some strong play was showcased by midfielders Nicole DeNara, Caitlin Kennedy and Teresa Ferraro. Good give and go playing from forwards Allie Bresso and Andrea Flori. Goalie Samantha Laszlo played superb recording some outstanding saves especially in the second half. Now, it's on to the second round.

Lady Jaguars 6 - S. Merrick Green Machine 1

In the first half Heather Burkey's corner found Kristen Fricione who punched in the first goal. Lauren Baumann's direct kick found Sam Robbins who blasted home goal #2. Heather's pass to Sam who one-touched to Meghan Pate who blasted it in for #3.

In the second half Heather's corner found Pamela Fiorillo who kneed it into the net. Alyssa Friedman passed to Maria Concilio who one-touched it. To complete the scoring Alyssa passed to Amanda Dijanic for #6. Laura Papalexis and Stefanie Weitzel shared the goal-tending duties with Stefanie stopping a penalty kick. That's the way to play soccer girls - team work!

Lady Pumas 4 - Huntington Y Fighting Irish 1

The Ladies started strong with Sabrina Caronna scoring the first goal. Madelyn Lew working well at midfield with Terry and Alexandra the Pumas went up by two with a well placed goal by Alexandra Neto. The strong defensive play of Tracy, Christie and Rosemary Ferraro kept the Fighting Irish off balance throughout the first half. Alexandra netted the third goal on a fine pass from Maria to finish off the half.

After a quick goal by the Fighting Irish, Sabrina finished off the scoring by converting an excellent pass from Puja Patel. The Lady Pumas are on a roll as we enter the Columbus Day weekend of rest before we get back to work. Continued success in the weeks ahead, you all deserve it!

Lady Starcats 2 - Sachem Thunder 1

This was an excellent team effort resulting in a thrilling come-from-behind victory against a physical and tough Sachem team.

Showing their resiliency, our girls bounced back from last week's tough loss and played with renewed intensity and drive.

Minutes into the second half, Meaghan Houst blasted in the tying goal. Meaghan would rocket in the game winner with less than three minutes to play assisted by Kaitlyn Kennedy.

Defensively our Cats were superb as Jillian Herbst's great block saved the game. Caroline Romans powerfully cleared the ball consistently. Samantha Kunion and Chiara Imbriano alternated strong performances at sweeper. Alison Monti had an excellent debut performance in goal.

Well done girls! Your coaches are very proud of all of you and the way you have played this season.

Lady Tigers 1 - Auburndale 0

The Lady Tigers' defense was overwhelming in their 1-0 victory over Auburndale. The Ladies kept the ball in Auburndale's half for 90 percent of the game thanks to tough play from Francine L. and Marion D. The lone goal was assisted by Jamie B. to Nicole C. Dana H. and Domanik held off any scoring. Ali T. played spectacular midfield covering every inch of the field. Lyndsey D. recorded her seventh shut-out for the team.

Saber Cats 5 - Merrick 2

The Saber Cats' first game in the state tournament was a real nail biter. The game was tied after regulation and overtime, but the Saber Cats won the game in the shoot out.

Maiken Bursig scored first after receiving a good pass from Nicole Davis. The defense, Cristina Cannella, Christina Bognacki and Stefanie Russotto with sweepers Hillary Depowski and Laura Galante once again played outstanding. They did not allow a goal in regulation play. However, the Saber Cats were called for a hand ball at their goal, that gave Merrick a penalty shot and a goal. The game ended 1-1 after regulation time.

In overtime Merrick scored first, but the Saber Cats were not to be denied the game. Jessica Fliegel made a powerful and high kick that found the net, and tied the score, overtime ended 2-2. Great offensive play from Danielle Cass, Courtney Campson, Kristen Armon and Alison Stern for the entire game.

The game was decided by a shoot out. Michaela Masci had an all star performance at goalie and blocked two shots in the shoot out. Cristina Cannella, Maiken Bursig and Hillary Depowski each scored in the shoot out. A hard fought and deserving win for the Saber Cats, congratulations girls!

Saber Cats 1 - Garden City 1

The Saber Cats scored early when Maiken Bursig kicked the ball into the Garden City net. The defense played exceptionally well, keeping the ball on the Garden City side of the field. Some great defensive plays were made by Hillary Depowski, Cristina Cannella and Jessica Fliegel.

The offensive also played well, but just couldn't get the ball to fall into the net again. Courtney Campson, Danielle Cass and Alison Stern kept the pressure on the Garden City goalie for the entire game. Once again Mikaela Masci went all the way at goalie. She made an incredible save in the first half.

The Saber Cats led the entire game but with only a few seconds left in the game were called for a hand ball in front of their goal. Garden City was given a penalty shot just outside the box and scored. A disappointment for the Saber Cats. But they should be congratulated and be proud for playing an excellent game.

Stray Cats 2 - RVS Roadrunners 1

The Stray Cats notched their first victory of the season in an exciting one goal victory over the Road Runners. X'Ania Saldana was sensational in goal playing almost the entire game under a constant RVC attack. Jessica Lippolis put the team on top in the first half as she converted the score on a cross from Megan Stevens. Our forward line of Alison Fliegel, Mary Hess, Kristina DiCostanzo, Eileen Hunt and Michele Galante were on the attack throughout the game. Their passing and shot selection kept the RVS keeper on her toes the entire game. Midfielders Kerri Lippolis and Lindsay Rella provided a spark late in the game to assist the team. Ashley Campson had a big day in the backfield supplying clearing kicks. RVC knotted the score in the first half but the StrayCats were ready to get on the win track. Jessica Busardo got the game winner on a shot from the top of the box late in the second half to put RVC away. This was a full team effort as every girl on the field did her part and contributed to the win. Nice job StrayCats!

Thundercats 1 - Syosset 0

Thundercats' determination against a tough and aggressive opponent made them victorious. First half remained scoreless. Ali Antman made two beautiful saves in first half. A solid defensive line led by Paige Darby and Jenna Peveraro who gave an outstanding performance. Sara Aron Bayof and Colleen Marino kept pressure on in the midfield by never giving up on the ball and pushing up the play. Cindy Sciarablo and Elise Messina kept pounding the net but the goalie kept shutting them down. Late in second half, off a corner kick by Maria, volleying off Analise to Sara to Maria, Maria to Analise for the score. Ali secured the shutout with a blast off her body. Speedy recovery to Lindsay Cilia! We miss you!

Lady Cougars 2 - RVC Sharks 2

The Cougars had the edge during the first half netting one goal by Stefanie Kovacic off a pass from Kim Carini. They also had a goal nullified due to an offsides call. In the second half, the Sharks took control of the game scoring two goals to go ahead 2 to 1. Jessica Connaughton, Nicole Dobranski, Dena Wlodarczyk and Caitie Kennedy kept the Cougars within one goal with some fine defensive play. With time running out, Teresa Ferraro scored on a direct kick to tie the game. Happy belated birthday Allie!

Pantherettes 3 - VOB 3

The Pantherettes started out strong and fast scoring three goals in the first half, but learned a valuable lesson today: you must play the full game regardless of how many goals you're up.

Our forward line displayed their talents. Jackie opened our scoring by going 1V1 with the goalie. Following was Terri Ann driving to the net, faking out the goalie. Concita stepped up with a chest trap and volleying it in for our third goal. Kara and Marressa were constantly driving to the goal making VOB goalie earn her keep.

Danielle and Kristin played stellar defense shutting down many of VOB's drives. Remember girls, when you get over confident you let your guard down and anything can happen.

Pantherettes 3 - Hewlett 4

Tough loss for the Pantherettes. This battle went to the closing seconds.

In the opening minutes from 20 yards out, Terri Ann stepped up and converted a direct kick. Jessica passed to Jackie, who put the ball in the net. Kristen fighting for a loose air ball jumped and sent a bullet with her head into the net.

Kara, Caroline and Corrine were the heart of the game today. In a game where there is no room for error, these girls stepped up, doing the job. Playing midfield their stamina should be applauded, not only forcing plays and pressuring Hewlett's goalie, they were quick enough to aid our defense when needed. Kristin anchored our defensive line showing she is a force to be reckoned with.

Helen was outstanding in goal, standing her own ground, guarding her goal, rejecting many of Hewlett's shots. The team would like to thank Helen for her dedication, making today's game despite a prior commitment!

Firecats 1 - Northport Extreme 2

In a game that might have gone either way, the Firecats wound up on the short end because they could not get the right bounce at the right time. The defense seemed confused in its marking assignments and Northport took full advantage, cashing in a corner kick which was not cleared. The defense settled down after that and hard work by the offense caused a foul in the penalty area. The ensuing penalty shot was converted and the Firecats left the field at halftime knotted 1-1. As the ball rolled lazily through the box, a desperation clearing effort found the top corner of the net instead. To their credit, the Firecats turned up the heat, but the ball still would not cooperate.

Lady Lynx 1 - Elmont Raiders 4

This score is not indicative of the Lady Lynx' effort put forth during this game. The girls came out flat against a much larger, more experienced Elmont crew who quickly took advantage of a few defensive cramps and took a 2-0 advantage. Michelle Contrada and Adriana Cavallaro played quality soccer in the Elmont end but could not convert. In the defensive end Brigid Fee gave new meaning to damage control by rejecting chance after chance by girls twice her size.

In the 58th minute, Jaime Silverman took a crisp pass from Honor Adams and took the ball deep into the Elmont zone. Jaime was the picture of desire as she blasted a shot from deep in but was rejected by an Elmont defender. Jaime alertly headed the ricochet into the Elmont net for the lone Lady Lynx goal. Although knocked to the ground and hurting, Jaime continued, and so will the Lady Lynx!

Lightning Cats 0 - Long Beach 5

We had an outstanding scoreless first half against the toughest team in the division today. Defense and halfbacks played a tough game of positional soccer. Offensively, we missed a couple of chances to take the lead and possibly defeat the Piranhas.

Super job by all Nicole DeSimone, Katie Roth, Katie Shea, Shannon and Michelle Kroll.

Special thanks to Sarah Ricchuiti who played the entire game in goal and was spectacular. It was nice to see the Lightning Cat girls rally around her and show her how important she is to the team.

Speedycats 0 - Stonybrook Shooting Stars 1

A strong offensive push by Marie LaMaida, Marylu Donnovan and Christine Coven. Despite a strong defensive effort by goalie Tarra Marsigliano and fullbacks Ashley Weinstein and Jessica Galante, the Shooting Stars slipped a goal in. Diane McCormack and Janelle Reif fought off furious charges. Nicole Thomas was solid in goal. Speedycats Colleen Holahan and Angela Cass had a great game. Success will follow your solid efforts.

Battlecats 1 - Farmingdale 0

Battlecats on a roll with third straight win, and third straight shutout for keeper Richie Crifasi who was mobbed by his teammates at the final whistle for his stellar performance. In this very intense game, a perfectly placed corner kick by Lawrence Ziegelbaum found its way to Richie Femia who tipped it in from close range for the lone goal. Excellent midfield play from Juan Flores, Eric Iocco. Notable never say die offensive pressure from Andrew Simms. Chris Siracusa was once again magnificent at sweeper. Keep it up boys, your efforts and respect for each other are obviously paying off.

Bengals 7 - Babylon 2

Within minutes, with a beautiful cross by Matt D., Ryan C. put one in. Moments later, it was like an instant replay, Ryan C. scored again. The offense remained hot throughout the game with help from Chris L. and Seb. The next four goals were scored by Matt D. aided by Peter and Fernando. Great defense led by Ryan L. and Sal who put up a wall and didn't allow our opponents further opportunities to score. In the final moments, Tommy J. scored the final goal for the Bengals. Great job boys! Keep up the good work.

Jaguars 2 - Hewlett Blue Lightning 1

The Jaguars defeated the Blue Lightning in a fierce battle. Lucky for us they could not get through the defense led by Jimmy and Aldo. The rest of the half was back and forth, ending at 0-0. Second half, Phillip scored from a nice feed from Vinny, and Danny knocked it in on a pass from Chris. Solid midfield play by Robert. Chris F. was fantastic in the nets. Let's build on the positive and minimize the negative. Let's go Jaguars!

Lazercats 7 - Wantagh Arrows 0

Dan Takesky opened the scoring. This goal was followed by Hector Jaramillo who scored two times. The team kept pressure in their end and Adam Ilardi scored the fourth goal. Kevin Philbin finished the first half scoring. In the second half Kevin Philbin scored again. The final goal was scored by John Strohsheir. The Lazercats showed great teamwork and passing skills by Rich Lababara and Russ Monti. Steve Zendzian sealed the shutout in goal. Great job guys!

Stormcats 7 - Franklin Square 0

The Stormcats totally dominated the Franklin Square Road Runners 7-0 in our most lopsided victory in a while.

Mike McHale scored a hat trick with many nifty moves. His first goal was assisted by Dan Duras. Then, Dan Duras slipped one through to Robby Kassoff for a goal. Eric Andreuzzi got his first of three assists when he fed Joe Marranno. Robby Kassoff booted a brilliant corner kick to Mike McHale who headed the ball in. Mike then passed to Joe Marranno who netted his second goal. Eric Andreuzzi fed Mike McHale, then Christian Uy to finish off the scoring. The defense only let one serious run come by. Robert Morici, Joe Incalcaterra and Justin Brobst were just too overpowering. Danny Gangale kicked and touched the ball twice during the contest. Yet another tribute to great defense.

Well done, boys!

Magic Cats 3 - East Meadow Bandits 3

The Magic Cats staged an incredible comeback. Down 3-0 at halftime, the boys did not give up!

Chris Garcia started the scoring with a perfectly placed shot. Pasquale Imbriano scored the next two goals, the last goal with the clock running out. Justin Soluri had several shots which bounced off the post. John Fini was our anchor in defense, playing in pain.

Evan Chen and Steve Stallone also played with injuries. Good defensive effort by Patrick Carton and Peter Zappulla. Aggressive midfield play by Mike Makowenskyj and Dan Fini.

Crazycats 3 - Oceanside 5

The Crazycats lost a tough game to Oceanside. Chris Corey scored two, one from a chip by Todd Mandl and the other on his own. Jason Fishman scored on a nice ball through a crowd of players in front of the net. Excellent play by David Mintz, Stephen Rampulla and Michael Depowski. Crazycats you have to find the back of the net. Good luck this week at the Northport Tournament.

Pumas 1 - Oceanside 2

Playing against the high scoring, undefeated heat, the PUmas came up with a solid effort, but just fell short. Michael Howard and Seth Levine were superb; controlling the midfield play. Excellent two-way play by Stevie Mastrandrea and Matt Siracusa. Strong defense by Sal Costa and Chris Brewer. Solid forward play and good passing by Frankie Tloczkowski, and Joe Tempone. Chris Ganz and Giovanni Palazzo were super in net. The unassisted goal was scored by Michael Howard. Thanks to Bobby Hugli for coming to cheer on his teammates.

Stormcats 2 - Franklin Square 3

The first half we missed numerous chances and were down 3-0 at the half. The second half was a different story. Joe Marrano scored on a brilliant pass by Robert Morici. Two minutes later Joe Incalcatera passed to Robert Morici who blasted one. The defense played a great second half led by Alex Neystat and Chris Dijanic. The midfield was solid with Christian Uy. The goalkeeping was also solid with Dangale and Eric Andreuzzi. The offense had many opportunities.
