NHP will be hosting a tournament for all the LIJSL Special Soccer programs on Saturday, Oct. 17, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Denton Avenue fields.

We have just confirmed that our special guest this year will be Gina, as seen on TV's Sesame Street!

We will be holding a meeting for everyone who would like to help out at the Merillon field house on Marcus Avenue on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m. At this meeting, we will make final assignments and coordination for the many tasks associated with this event. If you would like to help, call Jim Lawler, tournament chairperson, at 352-8939, or Richard Bletsch, tournament director, at 328-3043, or come to this meeting. All are welcome.

Today's senior game had a special twist to it. The teams were aligned based on height. It was the over 5'4" team (red) vs. the under 5'4" team (yellow). Just to prove that size is not the most important criteria in a soccer team, the yellow team (under 5'4") won by a 3-1 score! Leading the way was an old alumni who came back to join us just this week, Tommy Serra. Demonstrating that he has not forgotten what he learned several seasons ago, Tommy scored two goals, with an assist on one by Derek Epstein. Putting the game away was Steven Serio's blast as he easily converted a penalty shot. Bobby Lee tried hard to keep it a close game with the only goal for the bigger, red team. Curt Walline played a super game as he ran the whole field trying to provide some much needed offense.

The junior game was a much closer battle. Stephanie Egre and Vinny Oppedisano contributed goals for the yellow team. However, the red team came right back with goals by Lucas Epstein and our newest player, Matt San Filippo, to knot the match. Elizabeth Alamandy played a terrific game stopping many attacks with her open field tackles. Hector Martinez's two-way play was outstanding.

Featured assistants: This week I'd like to mention all our new assistants who have graciously donated their time to help with our young players. They are: Sadia, Phil, Laura, Christine, Sergio, Beth, Erin, Frank, Lauren and Nicole. It continues to impress me that there are so many teenagers out there willing to give of their time to work with others in our community. Thanks!

The Rockers made a good effort against a tough Rough Rider team. Aggressive goaltending by GianLuca Imbriano and Daniel Lackner. Gabriel Gonzalez and Andrew Bottenhofer played hard in midfield. Tough defense plays by Patrick Strefaccio and Anthony Fini.

Chris Gill and Jonathan Rezin kept the pressure on the opponent.

Vipers 3 - Galaxy 3

Team effort plus for this one. Anthony Perrico scored two and Chris Vrabel scored one. Joe Mongone was covering all shots in the goal. Anthony Mongone, Nick Marino, Dimitri Raftupoulos, Danny Quesada, Mike Rafferty and Chuck Peitler shone in midfield. Awesome defense by Joel Joseph, Isaac Laveaux, John Liguori and Mario Grosso.

A great effort on a hot day by the Galaxy resulting in a 3-3 tie. Goals scored by Eric Small, Mike Gerbe and John Beisner. Great hustle by Brian Ernst, Kenny Salguerro, Matthew Silver and Denis Selig. Good defense by Matt Silver, Leonardo Cappola, Daniel Cohen, Michael Beigat and Michael Small.

We lost our first game in a heartbreaker. Carmine Gironda made a great move to get free for the first goal. Sean McGonigle came out of a pack to net the Tigers' next goal. Rich Caridi hit the post and Andre Burnett, Dan Goldberg, and Allen Williams just missed. Brendon Schweitzer, Ray Anderson, and Dylan Mayer owned the midfield. Joe Mercadante, Dan Wortley, Luigi Muto and Nick Fishman were a brick wall on defense.

The Pumas met a very physical team and once again proved that size is not always important!

Teri opened up the score and a few minutes later Liz took advantage of a rebound to make it 2-0. The Ladies had assumed complete control on two more goals by Ai and Sabrina.

Evelin and Monika kept on dictating the pace; while Rosemary, Jessica S. and Christy took care of the opponent's attempts. With no surprise came the fifth goal by Sabrina. Sure of their dominance, our girls relaxed but still had enough tempo for Maria and Alex to produce two more goals for the final score.

Beautiful game, Ladies! Let's keep the ball rolling!

We started out extremely sluggish against a fast and physical team. The girls were able to go into halftime scoreless. Terri Ann took a corner kick which curved in for our first goal. Marissa's constant fight upfront paid off, putting a beautiful cross into the box, which Kara volleyed into the goal.

Christine, Kristen and Corrine's tenacity showed throughout the game in midfield, as they fought hard to win and advance the ball. Carolyn, Prochee and Kristin were unbelievable, never showing fatigue. Helen chaulked up her first shutout with some outstanding goaltending.

We once again dominated the game with strong defense and offense. Jenna Peveraro led the defense, sacrificing body parts to help keep the game a shutout. Ali Antman did her part with some terrific saves in goal. Paige Darby provided a strong line of passes up to Colleen Marino and Sara Aron-Bayof. The defense had to play hard against a physical Oceanside team. Maria Saitta led the offense with three goals. Two weeks in a row Maria was able to score on a corner kick. Elise Messina banged one in. Analise claimed a goal, as well as Cindy Scianablo who was all over the field and who made a beautiful pass across to Paige to capture a goal, too. The Thundercats wish to send get well wishes to Becky Heineman. Speedy recovery.

Our attack was jump started by the control and passing of Emily Ocner and Melissa Fulgenzi. Our midfield today was keyed by the aggressive efforts of Alicia DeMarco and Ashley Felcon. Jennifer Fabian stepped up to provide some speedy play when the team needed a lift. Garden City scored first. Our girls took this as a signal to pick up their play in an all out effort to tie the score. Alison Art had a solid game at sweeper, and Alicia Ezat also played some superb defense. Diana Cotilletta ran hard to drive the attack late in the game.

Theresa Piliero showed her versatility by giving the team a fine first half in goal, and was there at forward to drive home the tying goal off of a cross. Congratulations on a wonderful effort today, girls. You showed us the high level of play we've grown accustomed to seeing when the Aristocats take the field. Get well wishes to Danielle Losonci from all of the Aristocats' family.

Sweeper Jessica Connaughton sustained an injury that forced the girls to play short-handed. The team stepped up to the challenge and played well. During the first half, the Lady Cougars showed some skillful aggressive play vs. a very physical East Meadow team. Andrea Flori, Allie Bresso and Alison Kiernan applied offensive pressure. Sam Laszlo was sharp in goal. Great "heads up play" by the defense of Dena Wlodarczyk, Nicole Dobranski and Nicole DeNara. The second half featured all the scoring with each team netting one apiece. Stefanie Kovacic scored for the Ladies off a perfect pass from Kim Carini. Teresa Ferraro and Caitlin Kennedy were tight in midfield throughout the game. Hey Jes, get well and quick! Happy birthday, Stef! The Cheshire Cats lost a heartbreaker. One of the most physical teams we have yet played. The girls responded by playing a tough but clean game. Jennifer Noone and Julia Rowinski came close several times to putting us ahead. Stephanie Chan gave an outstanding effort at several different positions before she was knocked out of the game with an injury. Meghan O'Leary provided a tremendous defensive effort at stopper. This was matched by the beautiful play of Sarah Mahan and Danielle Young at fullback. Jenna Bresso provided offensive spark at both halfback and forward. The whole team played with gut and determination.

We had our chances; however, we didn't convert and came up a little short.

We had a big time defensive effort by Anna and Marielle in the nets. The midfield, led by Ilana and Drarissa pursued all 50/50 balls and won most. Amanda had a big time game with many offensive bursts.

Keep your heads up, ladies and play your game. The wins will start coming. Keep kicking, Kickcats!

Our girls started off sluggish and Albertson seized the opportunity. By the time our Cats got up to speed, they found themselves looking at a 2-0 deficit with another defensive lapse. The gap was 3-0. True to form, our girls fought back and gave Albertson a run for the money. Nisha Ohri blasted in one. Finally, offensive pressure was led by Kaitlyn Kennedy and Samantha Zuckerman.

Our girls picked up where they left off at the break, and continued the pressure. Emily Glenn just missed connecting, as did Erin Gilmartin who barraged the defense with a series of blasts. Deanna Perniciaro also just missed. Samantha Rosen connected following a lead pass from Christine Cusumano. The play was called back due to an offsides call. Not to be undone, Samantha blasted in our second goal, minutes later. This was a tough loss to play with full intensity - start to finish! Let's work on it and do it right next week!

The Firecats seem to come up with their biggest efforts against Deer Park, one of their more talented opponents. This game was no exception, as the Firecats, still suffering from a short roster due to injuries, held nothing in reserve. In a reversal of their usual form, the Firecats' offense set the pace. Jen Mason opened the scoring with a gorgeous shot low to the far post. Strong work from Staci Scianablo and Jen Mason got the ball in front, where Melissa Suarez faked the Ambush keeper and buried the game winner. From there, the defense took over. Outstanding back-line work by Jen Baumann, Eleni Roulis and Christine Maulion, supported by terrific two-way play from Lauren Ratafia, Mary McFarland, Lindsay Martin, Janette Antic, Nicole Lippolis and the gutsy Jess Monahan, frustrated the Deer Park wingers. Keeper Molly Herrick was a diving dervish as she stoned every Ambush effort to tie the game.

The Lady Jaguars notched their second win of the season with a 2-1 victory over East Islip.

In a dominating first half, the first goal was scored by Lauren Stacom's one touch pass to Meaghan Dolce. With time running out in the first half, E.I. tied the score. The second half, Meaghan Dolce passed to Heather Burkey who blasted it home for a 2-1 victory.

The Cats had super goalkeeping today from Sarah Ricchuiti and Colleen Grace.

Defensively, Nicole DeSimone and Katie Roth played well, breaking up many plays. At halfback, the standouts were Kim Grammas and Shannon Lovisi. Offensively, Kristina Masci and Missy Southern created a few scoring chances.

Our goal was scored by Shannon, who worked the ball and made a great 20 yard pass to Grace Emanuelle who shot over a charging goalkeeper for the goal.

Keep up the good work Cats, your hard work is starting to show.

A tough loss. An excellent first half with the defense supporting the forwards. Great offensive effort by Danielle Cass and Kristin Arman. Unfortunately, the ball wouldn't go in the net against the Floral Park keeper.

We started with the ball but due to miscommunication, Floral Park was able to put it in the net. Our midfielders Jeannie Fliegel, Stefanie Russotto, Alivo, Stern and Laura Galante gave great offensive support. Michaela Masci played the entire game as goalkeeper and did a fantastic job. All in all, we played very well against a highly skilled Floral Park team.

We played tough to the end, never stopped putting on pressure but fell short to an aggressive team. Marie LaMaida and Marylu Donovan were the offensive catalysts. Christine Coven and Denise Ingram played tough to keep W. Babylon from the backfield. Strong support came from midfielders Angela Cass and Colleen Holahan. Diane McCormack and Janelle Reif shared the goaltending and both played brilliantly.

Let's go to Stonybrook next week with the same "It's not over 'till it's over" attitude and we'll be sure to come home with a win.

Hurray back Tara -we need you!

We dominated this game for 65 minutes but it was the five minutes we did not dominate that resulted in the lone score of the day. As it's been the first two games of the season our defense has been consistent. Beth DeMarco, Jessica Lippolis and Nicole Southern played solidly in the backfield forcing the Cyclone out of shooting range. Vicki Nikic did a fine job in goal. Today the ball was not bouncing our way but in this game you cannot wait for the lucky bounce. You have to make things happen. Playing a 3-4-3 zone for the first time this season our midfield, consisting of Alyson Rose, Lauren Castilla, Megan Stevens and Lauren DeSimone were able to dominate play and keep the ball at the Cyclone net. After watching today's game you can see the team is very close to putting it all together and will be one of the top teams in a very competitive division. The Alleycat defense is in sync despite the new players who have joined them this season. Rod Trasolini and Stephen Lind were a pleasure to watch, denying W. Babylon's every attempt. Bobby Thomson and Matt Nolan shared the shut-out in goal. Don Rosenberg scored twice with the help of Brian Muldowney and Bryan Wolchok. Dan Verbanac scored with Rob Trasolini getting the assist. Congratulations are in order to all the Alleycats for winning the Sportsmanship Award for the second time in First Division.

Great game! First half action was intense as the Revolution could not penetrate the defense of Michael and Jimmy. About midway, Gabby connected on a 35-yard direct kick over the goalie's hands. Midfielders Robert and Stephen were up to the task going hard in both directions. Second half thanks to Chris (about 20 saves) kept the Jaguars in the game. Strong effort up front and at midfield by Vinny and Phillip. The Jaguars proved they can play with anyone in the division.

Just would like to thank everyone who supported the Jaguars' carwash. It was a complete success.

Total domination is the game story. Crisp, one touch passing and finese plays are fast becoming a team trademark. Goal scoring by Lawrence Ziegelbaum, Brian Eilbott, Eric Iocco and two from Leo Lumermann. Rich Femia created nightmares for Deer Park. Juan Flores maintained total midfield control. Frank Crecco allowed Richi Crifasito notch the shut out easily. Fine effort boys. We tied in the second half on a penalty kick scored by Joe Gainer. Andrew Herrick provided great goaltending. Excellent defense from Kyle Scherder and Mark Rossi. Fine all around effort from Ryan Schoendorf and Paul Hyatt. The Pumas came out wanting to play. Six minutes into the first half, a goal for Chris Kassoff off a headed pass from Frankie Tloczkowski. The next goal was Seth Levine, a throw in right into the net! Goal three was a corner kick by Seth, off Chris K's head, to Frankie who sent it right passed the goalie. The final goal was scored by Michael Howard off a beautiful pass from Chris Ganz. The defense kept a tough Hota team, led by Chris Brewer, Sal Costa and Ryu Kawana. Giovanni Palazzo and Bobby Hugli were outstanding in goal allowing only one goal. Terrific all around play by Joe Tempone, Mat Siracusa and Stevie Mastrandrea.

The Stormcats took the sting out of the Garden City Stingers in a battle of Division 1 giants. We took a quick 1-0 lead when Robby Kassoff blasted a shot and Joe Marranno nailed in the rebound. The defense, led by Danny Gangale and Joe Incalcatera, kept a pesty Garden City team in check.

If you watched any Stormcat games, you would know to beware of our corner kicks. We scored again on our only attempt. Robby Kassoff's corner kick to Daniel Duras gave us a 2-1 lead.

Daniel Duras gave us his second goal one minute later. Christian Uy's perfect throw in to Eric Andreuzzi gave us the winning goal. Our offense was led by Justin Brobst and Chris Dijanic.

We had a defensive struggle against a tough Middle Country team. Several shots on goal by Pasquale Imbriano and Justin Soluri just wouldn't fall in. Great defensive play by Steve Stallone, Mike Nathan, Robby Nilsen. Fantastic goaltending by Matt Bender kept us in this game. This was an unacceptable loss for the Bengals. With many opportunities to score and helping the opponents to score on ourselves the Bengals managed to stay in the game. Chris L. and Seb had their hands full with the opposition. Being down, Tom J. assisted to Matt for the first goal. Our next goal was on a beautiful corner kick from Ryan C. to Tom J. who headed it into the net. Having tied the game at this point, Tom H., Fernando and the aggressive Pete worked real hard to keep the opponents from getting through to the net. Matt gets an opportunity and scores another goal to put the Bengals in the lead. Elmont came back fighting, putting two more goals in on us, winning the game. Chris S. had a good workout today and saved many shots on goal, keeping the score close.
