I want to take the opportunity to thank all our Wildcats' families and friends for their cooperation in making this weekend a real joy!

Our fields were well maintained and the parking guidelines were in place. Many, many thanks to all of you! Remember if we all work together for our children then we can assure them that their program will not be jeopardized.

Be sure to stop by the Wildcats booth this Saturday, Sept. 26, at the New Hyde Park Village Fair. You'll have a chance to meet the coaches and to chat about the Wildcats program. The fair is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and we look forward to seeing you then.

The team pictures were taken this week and I'm disappointed that the following teams chose not to be included in our 20th anniversary journal ¬ Alleycats, Cougars, Firecats, Kickcats, Lazercats, Stryker Cats. There was no cost to the players nor the teams. This was an important occasion - our 20th anniversary. We wanted every team represented at no cost!

Anyone interested in being the travel team's editor, please call Annette Giarratani, 437-9149.

Dinner Dance reservations, please call Annette Giarratani, 437-9149 or Gerry Kassoff, 746-7267. $95 per couple - Friday, Nov. 6, 8 p.m.-1 a.m. NHP Inn.

The senior game saw some great offense this week. The red team's goals were by Debbie Chin, whose hard work enabled her to put the ball in the net, and Bobby Lee, who made use of some fancy footwork for his tally. While the yellow team had many opportunities, the red team's goalkeepers were up to the task stopping shot after shot. Steve Fleisher was outstanding in the nets. Eventually, Melissa Bauer was able to put one away with sheer determination and Robert DeTrano continued his scoring binge with the tying goal for the yellow team. Karen Babyak was a standout at midfield with super two-way play. Providing stellar defense was John Ferrante. His positional play and long passes turned around many dangerous attacks.

The junior game had some explosive scoring as the red team had numerous goals by Lucas Epstein, Eugene Simmons and Samantha Epstein. The yellow team had their hands full but managed a goal by Vinny Oppedisano.

Featured assistant: This week's spotlight features Ray Andersen. Ray is now coaching a travel team which, unfortunately, plays their games on Saturdays. Inevitably, there will be some conflicts and he will miss some weeks. But that does not diminish the enthusiasm he brings with him. His warmth and sensitivity flows naturally and is quite infectious to everyone. If we need anything done, we just ask Ray. He's a true asset to our program.

Last fall, NHP had the pleasure of hosting a tournament for all the LIJSL Special Soccer programs. By any measurement, it was a huge success. Well, our second tournament is now set. On Saturday, Oct. 17, we will, once again, host this tournament at the Denton Avenue fields.

As we have found out, no undertaking of this magnitude could be held without the help of many, many people. The turnout from the Wildcat family last year was way beyond our expectations. We had volunteers from our travel, intramural and special soccer programs, their friends and the NHP Memorial High School's Key Club. We easily exceeded our minimum financial goal, which enabled us to offer a lot more than originally planned. With your help, we should have no problem duplicating those efforts.

We will be holding a meeting the week before the tournament to coordinate assignments for our helpers. More information to follow.

If anyone is intersted in contributing, please call the tournament director, Richard Bletsch, at 328-3043.

Cheshire Cats

Cheshire Cats 1 - Levittown 0

The Cheshire Cats used another full team effort to outlast our old nemesis Levittown by a 1-0 score. Laura Corey and Lisa Virzora gave outstanding efforts at fullback. Athena Chen and Stephanie Chan combined at stopper and sweeper to shut down the middle. Michelle Cohen gave another solid performance in goal to net her second shutout of the season. Jenna Bresso and Kara Beardsley turned in a couple of their best performances.

Sarah Mahan demonstrated her versatility in the dual roles of halfback and fullback. The scoring came from Jami Cantwell who gave 100 percent all day and who hit a corner kick that threatened their defense for the goal!

Lady Cougars

Lady Cougars 5 - Floral Park Kachinas 0

Goalie Samantha Laszlo was outstanding early, stopping a point blank save which pumped up the team. After many shots on goal, Kim Carini scored on a rebound shot from Stefanie Kovacic. Teresa Ferraro set up the play with a nice lead pass. S. Kovacic whistled a shot for a 2-0 lead. That play seemed to deflate the confidenc e of the Kachinas. S. Kovacic added two more goals and K. Carini scored her second goal to cap off the scoring. The assists went to Alison Kiernan and Caitlin Kennedy, who, along with Allie Bresso and Andrea Flori, played with a lot of energy. Nicole Denara, T. Ferraro, and Nicole Dobranski were very businesslike in the midfield feeding the wings all day. Our very tight defense of Jessica Connaughton and Dena Wlodarczyk helped preserve another shutout for goalie S. Laszlo. Keep up the good work girls!

Lady Jaguars

Lady Jaguars 3 - Garden City Rockets 1

In a scoreless first half, Lauren Baumann was controlling the play. Lauren Stacom and Stefanie Weitzel were controlling the G.C. Strikers.

Jennifer Spota and Meghan Pate were winning loose balls at midfield. The Lady Jaguars broke through when Meaghan Dolce blasted the ball off the post. Amanda DiJanic's header found Alyssa Friedman free who tied the score. With five minutes remaining in the game, Kristen Fricione found Sam Robbins, who gave us a 2-1 lead.

In the closing moments, Meaghan Dolce crossed it off a G.C. defender to give us a 3-1 lead. Elizabeth Montreuil had an outstanding game at sweeper. The coaches would like to wish a speedy recovery to Leah Cantor, and Heather Burkey and also to Lucia Giordano who must return back to the US soon.

Lady Lynx

Lady Lynx 6 - Lynbrook Lions 0

The Lynbrook Lions caught the Lady Lynx flat in the first five minutes during which time the Lady Lynx defense, led by Brigid Fee and Lauren Keavney, staved off the relentless Lynbrook attack.

Inspired by the play of the fullbacks, the Lady Lynx attack refocussed. Tracy Rostholter took the corner kick and wisely followed the play to put the ball in the net. Led by Honor Adams' first of two goals, set up perfectly on a left corner cross from Jackie Nese to Jennifer Jung. Jennifer crossed the ball to Honor and pumped it home for a 2-0 lead. The next goal was sparked by Vivian Quan who spotted Jennifer Jung, who drove home the third.

Rostholter made a blind cross to Adriana Cavallaro who blasted it past the Lynbrook keeper. Michele Contrada made a crisp pass to Jennifer Jung, who saw Honor for the pass and the fifth goal. Jenny Tempone made a quick pass to Lora Tzoczkowski, who put it in for the sixth goal.

Enough cnanot be said about the aggressive play of the Lady Lynx defense and also the shutout goaltending of Katie Gilroy and Caitie Clark. With six goals scored by five different players this was truly a team win.

Lady Pumas

Lady Pumas 9 - Elwood 3

The L. Pumas came out determined to put the game out of contention from the start. Madelyn's high volley found the back of the net. The great midfield work of Puja and Teri resulted on a handful of scoring chances, that were not converted until Alex's fine touch made the score 2-0. Elwood was able to reduce the deficit before half time.

The strong defensive line of Liz, Tracie and Jessica L. gave the Ladies the confidence for a powerful restart and a quick 6-1 lead on Sabrina's four consecutive goals! After Allison had stopped a penalty kick, Elwood converted a second awarded by the official; but Ai found Maria and Meghan's speed, who made the score 8-2. With 12 minutes left to play, the Pumas relaxed their game, but Laurie still had time to close out the score.

Another precious work of art, Ladies! Keep up the good work and high spirits and more victories will come your way!

Lady Tigers

Lady Tigers 4 - Garden City 1

The Tigers were the first to strike off a blistering indirect kick by Ali T. into net. Lyndsey D. aggressively protected her netted den. Much of the game's victory may be credited to control of the midfield by players Jamie B. and Marion D. who managed to constantly punch the ball back to the Tigers' forwards. Vanessa C. added the second from 25 yards out. A fast breakaway was stopped by the powerful defense of Francine L. Defenders Catie L. and Racquel C. also mounted a forward push and quickly found outlet passes to Denise P. and Debra P. when the Cudas tried to generate any offensive pressure. Dana H. and Domanie K. consistently succeeded in bringing the ball into the corners for superb cross passes to their teammates. Center forward Nicole C. tacked on goals three and four. The only goal for the Cudas came in the second half on a rebound after a point-blank shot at the Tigers' keeper.

Pantherettes

Pantherettes 4 - Oceanside 1

The Pantherettes continue to impress all with their soccer ability and teamwork. Sharp passing along with aggressive soccer led the girls to a victory over a very large and physical team.

Kara started our scoring with a perfect volley off a precise long cross from Jackie. Diana drove to the net putting the ball in. Carolyn, playing in a unfamiliar position, fought hard in the box for a loose ball, blasting it into goal. Jesse then stepped up with a long, hard shot.

Our midfielders were unbelievable with their two-way playing, fighting and winning almost every ball, advancing it to our forwards.

Our defense, Kristin Pracher and Terri Ann, were almost unsurmountable, with their speed and stamina, shutting down many at Oceanside's drives to the net.

Super goaltending by Helen, her quick reflexes and fast thinking secured the win!

Thundercats

Thundercats 7 - Jericho Jayhawks 1

Thundercats broke out to an early lead over the Jayhawks. Elise Messina (3), Maria Saitta (2), Colleen Marino (1) and Cindy Scianablo (1) kept pounding the net keeping the goalie very busy. Anatise Siciliano and Samantha Sopilnick played hard and kept pushing up the play. Sara Aron-Bayof kept the flow of the game going with remarkable ball control and good heads-up play. Jenna Peveraro, Becky Heineman, Lindsay Cilia and Paige Darby provided a great defensive line with effective passes out to the wings. Ali Antman with help from Cindy Scianablo in second half protected our goal. Good all around team playing. Thundercats go 2-0 for season.

Lady Starcats

Lady Starcats 3 - West Hempstead Fireballs 3

This was a thriller from the opening kickoff to the final whistle. Our girls played their hearts out in the stifling heat and put in a tremendous effort.

Samantha Rosen blasted in a goal in the first half assisted by Deanna Pernicaro. At the half, the score was tied 1-1. Our girls found their second wind. Meaghan Houst rocketed in the tying goal assisted by Christine Cusumano to Samantha Rosen to Meaghan, who just missed her second goal. Erin Gilmartin kept up the pressure on the Fireballs defense along with Samantha Zuckerman, who had several breakaways.

Our girls suffered a setback when West Hempstead went ahead 3-2 midway in the second half. Our girls rose to the occasion. Strong midfield play by Emily Glenn, Jillian Herbst and Keriann Stein. Kaitlyn Kennedy blasted in the tying goal.

Our defense, led by Caroline Romano, Alison Monti and Samantha Kunion, put in a strong effort and kept the Fireballs at bay. Nisha Ohri and Chiara Imbriano combined to make a formidable stopper/sweeper combination.

Monica Soluri saved the game with some spectacular stops that energized our girls.

Excellent effort, girls. Well done! You showed a lot of heart and class in this hard fought contest!

Saber Cats

Saber Cats 1 - Bayside Hurricanes 1

For their second game, the Saber Cats played a talented and well coached Bayside team. Bayside scored first with only a few minutes into the game; but the Saber Cats came back quickly to score a goal. The Saber Cats' defense then took over the game, led by Hillary Depowski at sweeper, who played her first game with the Saber Cats. Welcome to the team, Hillary. Cristina Cannella also played well on defense.

In the second half, the Saber Cats' offense played aggressively and kept the pressure on the Bayside defense. Laura Galante and Jessica Fliegel played mid-field and helped to keep the ball near the Bayside goal. The Saber Cats just missed getting a couple of additional goals. Good offensive playing in the second half from Kristin Arman, Courtney Campson, and Maiken Bursig. Stefanie Russoto and Michaela Masci shared the goalie position and played well.

Aristocats

Aristocats 1- Valley Stream Angels 2

The Aristocats fell victim to missed chances in a tightly contested match against the Valley Stream Angels. Our girls started the game in low gear, but soon picked up the pace as forwards Melissa Fulgenzi and Emily Ocner keyed the attack. Strong support came from midfielders Ashley Felcon and Diana Cotilletta, but the team just couldn't get the ball into the net. Starting the second half down by a goal, the Aristocats raised the level of their play. Alicia DeMarco moved up to midfield to jump start the offense. Solid defensive play throughout the contest came from the tough play of Alison Art and Alicia Ezat. Ashley Felcon drove in a penalty shot to tie the game after a hard working Emily Ocner was fouled in the box. Unfortunately, the team couldn't sustain the intensity as Valley Stream stepped up their aggressiveness to score a late goal for the win.

Kickcats

Kickcats 3 - HBC Rolling Thunder 4

The Kickcats came up on the short end of the score. In typical Kickcat fashion, we never quit and played to the end. Devon and Katie shared the goaltending responsibilities and came up big time after time.

Ilana, Marissa and Michelle controlled the midfield to set up our goals by Jessica and Kristina. Jessica also added a penalty kick.

Next week we travel to Cold Spring Harbor with today's intensity and attitude. I know we'll all come home winners.

Keep kicking Kickcats.

Lightning Cats

L. Cats 0 - Commack Tornadoes 2

Super first half for the Lightning Cats. Sarah Ricchoiti and Shannon Louisi played fantastic in goal today. The defense, led by Nicole Desimone played a tough game.

Our halfbacks played well also, creating a few scoring opportunties. Good efforts by Michelle Kroll, Coleen Grace, Kim Grammas.

L. Cats forwards played a strong game. Missy Southern had a goal called back on a questionable offside's call. Kristina Masci and Kaitlin Sara rounded out the offense.

Speedycats

Speedycats 0 - Plainview-Old Bethpage Night Hawks 1

The Speedycats showed great determination but were not rewarded with a goal this game.

Several scoring drives by Nicole Thomas and MaryLou Donovan were thwarted by the errorless defense of the POB Nighthawks.

Control of the center was provided by the aggressive midfield play of Colleen Holohan, Christine Coven and Jessica Galante who made every attempt to support the offensive effort.

Good defensive playing by Katie Nielsen, Denise Ingram and Marie LaMadia.

Excellent job Tara Marsigliano at playing goalie.

Against a team of the POB Nighthawk caliber one mistake can cost you and that's what happened as the POB Nighthawks scored late in the second half to end the game 1-0.

StrayCats

StrayCats 0 - Babylon Celtics 1

The StrayCats found themselves on the wrong end of a one goal defeat against Babylon. This was a tale of two halves as Babylon dominated play in the first half and the StrayCats bounced back to dominate play in the second. X'Ania Saldana started the game in goal and did a splendid job stopping the Celtic attack. Fullbacks Mary Hess and Ashley Campson were able to slow down a very speedy Celtic attack. Halfbacks Lindsay Rella, Keri Lippolis, Eileen Hunt and Michele Galante were kept busy trying to keep Babylon from the backfield. Just as last week, one letdown can hurt, as Babylon scored the only goal of the day with minutes left in the half. Much to the StrayCats' credit, the second half was all NHP. Megan Stevens was the offensive catalyst as she battled down the wing to keep the pressure on the keeper and set up the offense. Alison Fliegel's corner kicks brought the team inches from a goal. Despite this loss, the coaches saw many positive things to build on. We're sure next week on Oceanside the StrayCats will bounce back with a "W" and the first of a Cat winning streak!

Battlecats

Battlecats 1 - Smithtown 0

A total team effort with contributions made by everyone. Brian Eilbott got the lone goal after a brilliant second effort from a scramble in front. Constant pressure from the forward combo of Andrew Simms, Chris Sigmund, and Leo Lumermann. The midfield of Robbie Guercio, Eric Iocco, Lawrence Ziegelbaum and Juan Flores maintained total control. Notable defensive efforts from Larry Leewandoski, Peter Burger and Jeff Moculeski. The defensive sweeper and stopper combo of Chris Siracusa and Frank Crecco caused major frustration for the Smithtown forwards. A well earned shutout by keeper Richie Crifasi. Hard work pays off. Well done boys!

Cougars

Cougars 1 - Uniondale 1

Fine game by the Cougars against a speedy, talented Uniondale squad playing shorthanded. The entire Cougar team played determined. Both goals scored by Ken Zask, with fine assists by Kyle Schoendorf and Jonathan Turnbaugh. Defensive effort was led by Dan Reilly, Mark Rossi and Joe Gainer. Offensive play was supported well by Brian Carton, Conrad Tenenbaum and Chris DiCicco. Fine goaltending by Patrick Dedins and Andrew Herrick. We couldn't convert on some tremendous scoring chances, but are getting closer to finishing the plays.

Magic Cats

Magic Cats 2 - Massapequa 1

The Magic Cats gave an entire team effort in this game. The first goal was scored by Justin Soluri, whose shot went right through the goalie's hands on a nice long pass from John Fini. The boys made it 2-0 at the half when Dan Fini set a rocket toward the net which hit off the post and was headed in perfectly by Mike Makowenskyj.

Great offensive effort by Dan Aruch and Chris Garcia. Superb goaltending by Matt Bender. Keep it up guys!

Stormcats

Stormcats 7 - Merrick 3

The Stormcats totally dominated this contest. Daniel Duras scored the first three goals in the first seven minutes, with assists from Robert Morici, Eric Andreuzzi, and Robby Kassoff. Robby then put two blasts from the right side with assists from Joe Marrano to take a 5-3 lead into half time. Robby's corner kick to Michael McHale whose picture perfect header gave us an unsurmountable lead. The defense, led by Alex Neystat, Joe Incalcatera and Justin Brobst were too much for Azzurri. Dan Gangale and Chris Dijanic played brilliantly in goal and forward. The last goal came when Christian Uy passed the ball to Robby Kassoff who finished the game with a "hat trick." Well done, boys!

Tigers

Tigers 3- Rosedale 1

The Tigers played an inspired home opener, defeating a determined Rosedale squad 3 to 1. Nick Fishman and Rich Caridi made key saves, in addition to scoring goals. These tallies were set up by Dylan Mayer and Alan Williams. Carmine Gironda added the insurance goal on a nice lead pass by Dan Goldberg. Great team defense by all the boys secured the win.

Pumas

Pumas 1 - Hewlett Marksmen 1

The Pumas bounced back with an all out effort for their home opener, and controlled the play for mst of the game. Superb goaltending by Bobby Hugli and Giovanni Palazzo. Outstanding defense played by Sal Costa, Ryu Kawana and Chris Brewer at sweeper. Excellent two-way play by Chris Ganz, Michael Hoard and Seth Levine. After a scoreless first half, the Pumas got on the board first, when Seth Levine sent a lead pass to Frankie Tloczkowski for the goal. Strong forward play by Stevie Mastrandrea, Joe Tempone, Chris Kassoff and Matt Siracusa.

Bengals

Bengals 2 - Albertson 5

An unfortunate loss for the Bengals. This has been a mental match for our boys playing this rival team. Although the boys work hard, they can't seem to get it together. Our first goal came from an assist from Tommy Jelcic to Ryan Campson who got the ball around the goalie and into the net. The second goal was also assisted by Tommy Jelcic to Matt D. to get another one in. Boys keep working hard, and one day you'll beat this team.
