John DiVello, who is 8 years old, was diagnosed with acute lymphocyctic leukemia when he was 2 years old and is now in need of an immediate bone marrow transplant and his parents are not an exact match.

Therefore, there will be a bone marrow drive at Notre Dame Church, New Hyde Park Road, New Hyde Park, on Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (New Hyde Park Road is Exit 34 on the Long Island Expressway.)

A simple blood test is all it takes to see if you qualify for the donation of bone marrow. To qualify a person must between the ages of 18 and 60, in good general health, and have no history of cancer, diabetes or heart disease. You should not be pregnant or at high risk of contracting HIV. Please, come down and be tested - you could make a difference.

Prior to the bone marrow drive, there will be a "Block Party-type" fund raiser at The Nassau County Inn on Sept. 27 from 1 to 6 p.m. Admission is: $40 per family or $20 for individuals which will include a barbecue, beer, wine, soda and entertainment for the children.

If you cannot attend either event, please make a contribution to: Estates Company No. 3 - John DiVello, Jr. Fund and mail to 1200 Marcus Avenue, New Hyde Park, NY 11040.

John DiVello, Jr.
