Dr. Barbaro's Bears looked great. Jaclyn Leibowitz and Maggie Morrisey were simply outstanding, getting five hits each. Aileen McGonigle, Eileen Dillon, and Karina Tamara all had three hits each and were great defensively. Kimberly O'Neill not only got her first hit of the year, but added two others for a three hit day. Erin Campbell, Annmarie McHale, Julia Diolallevi and Valerie Fiore were exceptional defensively, plus getting two hits each. Stephanie Mongone got her first hit of the year, smashing the ball past second for a single. Well done, Bears!

The Mountain Star Raiders played their most exciting game of the year against a great Little Shoppe of Flowers team. The star of the game was Matt Morrisey, who struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth inning to get the save, threw out a runner stealing third with a perfect throw and just missed getting a second runner in the same inning. John Amico made great tags. John also made a great catch of a high fly at shortstop. Matt also made a great play at second, knocking the ball down with his chest and throwing a perfect strike to first. No, maybe the star of the game was Jamie Liebowitz who also made super throws from his catchers position, had a grand slam and a single knocking in the winning run in the top of the fifth. Jamie had six RBIs. No, maybe the star of the game was Matt Santalesa, who pitched two great innings, made great plays at shortstop, including diving in the hole for a hard grounder, getting up and making a perfect throw to first. No, maybe the star of the game was Mike Graham, who pitched three great innings, had a single, double, RBI and two runs scored. No, maybe John Ligouri was the star of the game, hitting two doubles and a single and who scored an important run with a great slide at home. The other stars were Steve Bartoloni (two walks, stolen base), John Morano (walk, single, three stolen bases and a great job catching), Brian Ernst (single, double, two stolen bases, and an RBI), Mike Schacor (double, RBI), John Karahalis (fouled off many pitches in great at-bats), and Joey Venezia (single, robbed of a second hit, and great plays in the field).
Little Shop of Flowers almost pulled off the comeback of the century falling one run short of tying the game with their last lick. Michael McHale was the offensive star hitting for the cycle. His homerun smash to right in the bottom of the sixth got us within one. Nick Zacarese got his first homerun of his Merillon career, crushing the ball to left center. Chris Kassoff also was great offensively, going 4/4 with a triple in the fifth. Chris Ganz was great in the field. Robby Kassoff pitched brilliantly shutting down a very tough Mountain Star team. Watch out guys, Little Shop of Flowers is about to bloom.
The Merillon Stingers came through once again with three runs in the first inning and six runs in the second inning against Williston Park 3 (WP3). A fine offensive hitting display and a combination of aggressive base running gave the Stingers the lead they needed! Mike Lanza, Billy Campbell, Jim Campbell, Sam Pizzichillo, Mike Marano and Jerry Campbell were all the offense the Stingers needed. The Stingers' ace pitcher, Billy Campbell, who threw for his first complete game holding WP3 to only one run, led the defense's excellent fielding by catchers Sam Pizzichillo and Jim Campbell, fine first base playing by Steve Gilory and outstanding fielding catches by Jerry Campbell and Brian Carton with a clutch catch in center field. Outfielders Adam Greco, Mat Williams, Eric Urso and Manaj Thadiani also joined in on the defensive show. The whole team pulled together bringing themselves to a 9-1 victory. Go Stingers!
