This week's junior game featured super offense by Samantha Epstein with two goals. However, the yellow team countered with a goal by veteran Ehrin McHenry and an unknown goal scorer to tie the match. Hector Martinez provided some terrific support at midfield as he threw his whole body into this game.

The senior contest was a nip and tuck battle the entire way. The game was scoreless almost the entire way as Karen Babyak, Debbie Chin and newcomer Hebron Jomell kept the yellow team in check. The match seesawed back and forth until late in the game when John Ferrante blasted a bullet from 30 yards out which caught the upper corner of the net and left everyone flatfooted. Mary Kate Leibman provided much of the ball handling for the yellow team but couldn't quite finish her runs as the red team was up to the task on defense. Just when it looked like the yellow team ran out of gas, Dan Downey shot a rocket off a corner kick to even this game right before the final whistle.

Featured Assistant: Over the years we have had families with more than one member help out with our program. This week we feature a family who could fill a basketball line-up. They gave us a huge helping hand at last year's tournament and easily melt into our group of assistants during our weekly sessions. Anything we need, these are the people we turn to. We extend a big thank you to this modest mob of marvelous mavens, the Minervas - Tony, Mary Ann, Kelly, Jackie and Tina.

State Cup: They will play in the semi-finals in two weeks.

Our Lady Jaguars are now one step away from reaching the State Cup Finals for the second consecutive year, after victories over Brentwood and New Rochelle.

On a beautiful midweek evening, we travelled to Brentwood to do battle with the Pitbulls. Lauren Stacom, Amanda DiJanic and Leah Cantor refused to be intimidated by the Pitbulls and inspired the rest of the girls on. Samantha Robbins blast put us up 1-0 after 15 minutes. Laura Papalexis made all the necessary saves in goal. The second half began with Meghan Pate's pass to Leah Cantor who chipped it to Kristen Fricione who one touched it to Jennifer Spota who then nailed it into the net for a 2-0 lead. Brentwood cut our lead in half but the Lady Jaguars took control and forced the action in the Pitbull end.

Traveling to New Rochelle for our quarter final match our girls were in high gear. Meaghan Dolce, Pamela Fiorillo, Amanda DiJanic and Alyssa Friedman popped in goals to give us a 4-0 lead at the half. Our fullback to forward combination of Stefanie Weitzel and Lauren Stacom became instant dividends with both girls scoring their first outdoor goals! Stefanie blasted in her second goal to help lead to a 7-0 victory.

The coaches would like to thank the Robbins Family (Lori, Stuart and Mike) for their help with the carpooling and the much needed tent. Also we would like to thank Barbara and Mark Papalexis for their carpooling help. Let's keep up the great work girls because this year we want those jackets! And the moms need a vacation!

Once again, the Ladies came out the winners due to their tremendous team work! Right from minute one, the Pumas pressed the opponent to their half of the field and, as a result, Meghan gave them the lead by the 12th minute. The terrific midfield work of Alex, Liz and Evelin generated a good handful of scoring chances, but it was the opponent who got the undeserved equalizer in one of their few attacking ventures.

In the second half, ease and patience replaced their anxiety and our girls put on a great soccer display. Ali's accelerations on left wing gave Huntington's defense more than what they could handle, scoring herself the second and third goals. On the opposite flank, Carolyn and Puja made some beautiful combinations, one of them resulting in Maria's victorious shot, for the final goal. The defensive line led by Rosemary and Lori gave no chances to the opponent during their final attempts, with Jessica, Christy and Tracie's support. Allison made some fine saves, especially while the game was tied, giving her teammates the confidence they needed to look for victory.

It was a great, well deserved win, girls! Look out Port Washington! Here we come June 14!

The Cyber Cats dominated the field today as they defeated HBC by a score of 3-0. Terrific defensive containment by fullbacks Carolyn Durniak, Karen Trebing and Lauren DeSimone kept the ball in NHP territory. At midfield, Stefanie Santoli, Lindsay Martin and Kim Costanzo easily won 50-50 balls and booted numerous shots on goal from outside the 18 meter line. Speedy ball handling by Corinne Tisei and Vicky Parente added the pizzazz necessary for the win.

Scoring opened up in the early seconds of the second half as Stefanie blasted a loose ball into the net. The second goal was set up by Karen's accurate pass to the midfield where Nicole Lippolis headed it to the waiting foot of Christine Zenzerovic. A yellow card issued to the HBC keeper gave Genna Himmelstein an easy penalty kick to post goal #3. Helen Zelman and Kathleen Flaherty shined as they shared goal tending duties for the shutout.

The Cats found themselves in a very tough battle with the Avengers from College Point in a game that would decide who would go to the finals of the Waldbaum's Cup. For 75 minutes it was all College Point. The Cats trailed 1 to nil up until that point. Then the Cats woke up and challenged the Avengers. Corinn Jordan found Erika Zimpritsch in the box with a perfect pass and Erika put it in the net to even the score. The Avengers quickly countered with a score to regain the lead. The Cats now decided to show the Avengers the real Courageous Cats. Kathleen Mikowski fed Erika a pass and Erika once again tied the socre. With the second ticking away Kathleen put a through pass to Corinn who scored the game winner. The defense of Cheryl Lee was outstanding throughout the game, which included a couple of empty net clearances. Kelli Gracia was strong at sweeper and Allison Kramer provided strong outside support. Christine Turley and Christine Prizeman were solid in the middle of the field. Tara Loonie, Jamie Fazio and Laura Vosswinkel hustled at the outside midfield positions. Lisa Pagano was once again solid at the net. Great comeback and good luck in the finals. With the games washed out last weekend, the Lady Cougars were forced to play on Wednesday afternoon. On their home turf the Cougars were able to defeat the talented Floral Park Kachinas. With the win the Cougars get to travel up to Scarsdale this Sunday for another chance to advance. Teresa Ferraro opened the scoring after she stopped a clearing pass and then blasted a shot by the stunned goalie. Forwards Allie Bresso and Andrea Flori kept the pressure on while Alison Kiernan added some nice footwork of her own. Goalie Samantha Laszlo kept the Kachinas off the board until Floral Park was awarded a questionable goal late in the first half tying the score at one. In the second half, Dena Wlodarczyk, Nicole Dobranski and Caitlin Kennedy shut out the Kachinas attack. Stefanie Kovacic capped off her clinic like moves and took the ball the length of the field to break the tie, making it 2-1. Kim Carini scored on a rebound off a Nicole Denara shot to ice the victory. It's off to Scarsdale! Good luck Lady Cougars! The Lady Cougars continue on by posting a 3-1 victory over Commack Goldrush. Stefanie Kovacic got the offense rolling by setting up the first goal with some nifty passing to Andrea Flori who hit the crossbar but Kim Carini was right there to tap in the rebound. Carini scored her second goal of the game after great passing from Teresa Ferraro and Nicole Denara. Alison Kiernan, Andrea Flori and Alli Bresso continue their fine teamwork keeping the offense rolling. The third goal was scored by Kovacic on a rebound from a direct kick by the steady Teresa Ferraro. The defense of Nicole Dobranski, Caitlin Kennedy and Dena Wlodarczyk made it easy for goalie Sam Laszlo who only allowed one goal that came in the last two minutes of the game. The Lady Cougars will go to the finals on June 13. Go get 'em Cougars! The Lady Cougars defeated Mamaroneck on their home turf with an impressive 6-0 score. The offense was unstoppable with goals by Andrea Flori (2), Allie Bresso, Kimberly Carini, Teresa Ferraro and Stefanie Kovacic each with one goal. Solid midfield play by Nicole Denara and Alison Kiernan. The defense of Nicole Dobranski, Caitlin Kennedy and Dena Wlodarczyk only allowed one shot on goal. Samantha Laszlo, our goalie, had an easy day. Girls, let's keep it going! Good luck!

This was a nailbiter from start to finish. It was the kind of game where the team scoring first would win. As it turned out, no team could score and our Cats settled for the tie.

Our defense sparkled, led by Emily Glenn, Samantha Kunion and Nisha Ohri, who turned away a formidable Farmingdale offense and consistently cleared the ball flawlessly. Kerianne Stein was sensational at stopper closing up the middle and pushing the ball up the field. Minoca Soluri achieved the shutout.

Our offense played well as our girls dominated play. Our girls had several scoring opportunities, but the net could not be found. Meaghan Houst had a breakaway in the second half, but her rocket kick missed wide left; Kaitlyn Kennedy received a corner kick and blasted a shot, just wide; Deanna Pernicaro, early in the game, just missed scoring from the left wing; Chiara Imbriano set up a play with a crisp cross pass from right wing, but again, the finishing touch was not there.

Our girls benefited from strong midfield play led by Christine Cusumano at center halfback who blocked up the middle, Erin Gilmartin with her strong kicks, Samantha Zuckerman who hustled and pushed the ball forward and Samantha Rosey with her strong kick and throw-ins.

Great effort, girls! Great teamwork! While we need to work harder at practice on our shooting and finishing, it is encouraging to see much improvement on defense (one goal scored against us in last three games) and that our Cats are developing into a fine team! We are all proud of you!

The Aristocats fell to the solid Division I Smithtown Strikers in a tightly contested State Cup Quarterfinal game. Our girls showed they were ready to play from the opening whistle, with forwards Melissa Fulgenzi and Suzie Jozkowski providing the team wth some quality scoring chances. The Aristocats scored first off of a beautiful corner kick from the foot of Ashley Felcon, whorebounded to a waiting Jennifer Fabian, who capably drilled it home The smart play of the Smithtown forwards kept our defenders, Paige Darby and Alison Luby on their toes. They both proved up to the challenge, displaying some tough tackling and clearances. Alicia DeMarco was the steadying influence at sweeper, stepping up to win all loose balls in the middle. Smithtown fought back and scored a nice goal just two minutes before the first half ended. Unfortunately as the second half wore on, the fatigue factor began to take a toll on our girls. Smithtown took control of the play and knocked in a loose ball for the lead. Midfielders Alyson Bader and Lauren Marra played some wonderful runs to try and score the tying goal. The Aristocats' valiant efforts tonight might have run out of time, but not out of heart. Congratulations, girls, on a wonderful effort. Hold your heads up proudly! The Aristocats played one good half of soccer today, but the painful lesson from this game is that one half is not quite good enough. On our first really hot game day, the team controlled the play early on, and scored first on a beautifully placed cross by Suzie Jozkowski to a perfectly positioned Melissa Fulgenzi, who ably touched it home with her left foot. Midfielder Ashley Felcon drove in the left side and blasted in the second goal. Alicia DeMarco played some marvelous sweeper in the first half, dominating the middle of the field. Starting the second half with a 2-1 lead, things quickly deteriorated. Garden City used their size and aggressiveness to win a majority of the loose balls. Defenders Alison Luby, Paige Darby and Diana Amoroso were pressed hard, and responded with some tough play. Suzie Jozkowski made a great individual effort on a long ball to drive through two defenders and deliver the tying goal. Danielle Losonci played capably and bravely in the net, as the shots came fast and furious. The second half was certainly not the high point of the season for the Aristocats. Let's work to put it behind us and remember how good we can be when the team gets two solid halves. Despite playing with only 12 players, the StrayCats gave a strong performance in a tough 2 to 1 defeat. Our inability to sub in the second half hurt, as the team began to tire. Jessica Busardo gave the StrayCats the led in the first half as she connected on a goal from the left corner. Beth DeMarco had a strong game at center fullback as well as midfield as she moved up front to give our halfbacks a breather. Nicole Southern and Ashley Campson were extremely effective shutting down the Celtic attack for most of the half. Late in the half, a Celtic player stole a goal kick and converted for the score knotting the game at the half. Despite dominating most of the offensive play in the second half, Babylon was unable to score as our defense played tough. Lindsay Rella had a strong second half playing both the left and right sides of the midfield. Vjosa Isein was determined to get the StrayCats on top, moving up and down the field with accurate passes. Vicki Nikic had a strong game in goal as her play kept the game knotted for 28 minutes of the half. With less than seven minutes left in regulation, Babylon went ahead. The coaches are proud of the way our girls, despite being very tired, battled a tough team in a game that could have gone either way. Congratulations on reaching the semis for the third years in a row! Jenna Peveraro with her outstanding defensive play kept this game within reach. Ali Antmani in goal kept Massapequa to a 1-0 lead at the half. In the second half Colleen Marino led the offense with a beautiful goal that banked off the pole and into the net. That put the Thundercats within one goal. Then Cindy Scianablo came right back with a blast that went high. Analise Siciliano kept the pressure on but unfortunately couldn't get the score. Samantha Sopilnick had a great defensive game continually pushing up the ball to the offense. Becky Heinemann and Lindsay Cilia help cut Massapequa's angles by never giving up on the ball. Sara-Aron Bayof and Cindy Luk covered the middle of the field relentlessly. Tara Marsigliano played terrific goal in the second half. The only shot that got by her was an unstoppable shot.

A tough loss for the Lightning Cats. We dominated the first half leading 2-1 only to have the heat and the Breakers come back with two goals in the second half.

Massapequa scored first with a weal goal which was misplayed by our goalkeeper. We tied the score on a beautiful corner kick by Kim Grammas which landed in front of the goal. Maria Saitta fought hard and drilled in a nice goal. We went ahead on a nice shot by Colleen Grace, who was set up by Cassie Green's perfect pass.

In the second half the heat got to us. We tried to play very defensively but our midfielders weren't able to keep up the pace. We had an early injury and had to play with only two subs.

They scored two goals to beat us, that were both beautiful goals. They were about 15 yards out and went in right under the crossbar, leaving Maria Saitta no chance at stopping them.

The Firecats were truly ready for this premier team from Albany, but had to play with only one sub when Jessica Monahan's injury from the previous day prevented her from playing. The match up seemed even with fine passing on both sides. Midway through the first half Clifton Park excuted one of their many fine set ups resulting in a goal.

Not willing to give up, the Cats, led by ???, who charged up the field carrying the ball that passed to Lauren who crossed to Melissa who shot it past the flustered keeper.

The second half was extremely difficult for the Firecats who were trying to keep pace with the rested and multi-subbed Clifton Park team. They netted their second goal and the Cats doubled their efforts. Mary was at her best stealing the ball and sending it up. Christine's throw-ins were awesome and Moira was relentless. Janette was everywhere and a foul toward her by CP in the back resulted in a free kick expertly netted by Michelle. With less than two minutes left and the score tied, we were hoping for an OT, but Clifton Park had yet another breakaway past the tireless Jens and scored the winning goal.

The Firecats should be proud of this effort.

The Jekyll and Hyde Firecats continued to get up for Cup games, avenging an ugly league loss to the Heat with a superior all-around performance. Early in the second half, Lauren Ratafia capped a brilliant run up the right side with a dead-on cross to Staci Scianablo on left wing. Staci's blast gave the Firecats the only goal they would need. Superior play by midfielder Moira Tuohey and sweeper Jen Mason kept matters under control. Several late saves by Molly Herrick preserved the victory. The first hot weather game of the year seemed to catch the Firecats trying to save their energy for the second half. An unfortunate rebound after a save gave the Storm an early lead. The Firecats turned it up in the second half. Excellent playmaking by Michelle Prizeman at center-mid jump started the offense. Melissa Suarez constantly sped past the opposing fullbacks, only to be foiled by a fine performance from the Long Beach keeper. The Firecats never did find the back of the net, as they continue to struggle in league play. In an exciting, nailbiting game, the Cougars persevered against a determined opponent. The action was non-stop and the entire Cougar team gave 100 percent on this hot, humid day. Great goaltending by Andrew H. Fine goal by Ryan S. on a beautiful asist by Ken Z. The defensive unit was led by Kyle R. and Kyle S. Midfield play was controlled by Jake A. and Patrick D. All the boys contributed to this win, as many substitutions were made due to the heat and the intensity of the game. The Cougars have come a long way in their first season of play and to reach the Waldbaum's final in a tribute to their effort and ability. Way to go boys! The coaches and parents couldn't ask for more.

The Alleycats were determined to stay alive in this quarter final round of the State Cup against a tough NY Hota team. They played like gangbusters scoring two quick goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. Both goals were scored by midfielder Dan Korman. One was a fine header placed beyond the goalie's reach. Hota was stunned and was unable to score against the Alleycats defense made up of David Cantor, John Dunlop, Rob Trasolini, Stephen Lind, Steven Kang and the excellent goalkeeping skills of Bobby Thomson. What a game he played in goal making many outstanding saves. Everything was going well until the second half when the referee made some questionable calls in favor of Hota. Then with 10 minutes left, Hota was awarded a penalty kick for a hand ball in the box. This was not intentional but an unavoidable bullet that hit an Alleycat defenseman. Hota scored on this penalty shot for their first goal. Now given some life by the referee, Hota pressed harder. As luck would have it, they scored a ricochet goal off the post to tie 2-2.

The game went into overtime. In the second overtime the ref once again gave Hota a penalty shot for a trip in the box. It was clear that the Hota attacker stepped on the ball causing his fall but the ref called it a trip. It's a shame the game was taken from the Cats in spite of their strong effort and their relentless struggle to win.

The Alleycats are looking to add some strong athletes to their squad for the fall season. Tell a friend. If interested, call Bill Dunlop, 328-0611.

Shaina Stein and Meredith Green were marvelous in goal for the Sparklers. Good all around play by Julia Albanese and Dina Nicastro. Stacy Wood and Meaghan McCullagh scored. Brandi Lacertosa excelled in goal for the Spice Girls. Caroline Smolenski scored a beautiful goal. Great games by Lauren Braun and Brittany Rogers.Melissa and Jacqueline were the catalysts for the Soccer Stealers. Christina, Suzanne and Emily controlled the midfield. Excellent goalkeeping by Ariel and Alexandra. Great defense by Olivia, Grace and Leila. Nicole Daly scored for the Panthers. Good support from Christina Falco, Kaitlyn Rogers and Dolores Youino. Solid defense by Nicole Contrada, Allie Siciliano and Catherine Kane. Sammy Follis and Jessica Egry were solid in goal.

Kristine Del Mistro scored the goal for the Hornets. Solid midfield play by Lisa Beatty and Stephanie Del Mistro. Unbeatable defense by Julianne Abel. Andria Coras and Stephanie Lupo excelled in goal.

Kate Lukasavage, Kristina Loverde, Melie Sesedin and Kimberly Stein played strong defense for the Blazercats. Great goalkeeping by Erin Albertson and Katie Palmer. Christina Cinelli, Kim Vrabel and Christine Kennedy led the offense.
