After the deadline of the Illustrated News last week we received documentation from a resident of Manhasset Hills regarding a 3:30 a.m. attack by two dogs that looked like they were part German Shepherd who attacked the 8-year-old family pet rabbit in the resident's backyard and killed it.

First, the animals had to jump over a chain-link fence to both enter and leave the premises. The rabbit was housed in a very sturdy wood and wire hutch a few feet tall. One of the animals jumped on top of the hutch and removed a tarpaulin, bricks and slate and a heavy wooden top to reach the bunny.

Apparently, the police have already received calls about the animals, which appear to be new to the neighborhood. The police feel that such animals would ordinarily back away from any people in the same area, unless cornered, in which case the possibility of an attack would probably be greater.

The reason the paper was informed was to alert, not alarm, the residents of Manhasset Hills to be cautious of their own pets and if possible, not to leave them out overnight.
