Other great fielding plays were made by Kaitlyn Kerrane who caught two flies at third base running into foul territory. Christine Deluca made a great catch on a line drive back to the mound that hit off her glove and she caught it on the rebound. Kathryn Leotta made a great play in left field, picking up a hard line drive on one hop and making a perfect throw to third, just missing a runner. Cassandra Malizia made a great catch of a one hopper and made a perfect throw to second to get an important force. Cassandra also caught a fly at second base. What an exciting game between the Lazio Pizza Bears and Nuzzi Fuel. Great play by both teams in a low scoring game. The Bears' superb defense kept it close with great plays by Eric Knudsen, Ed Daly, Michael Pucci, Paul Cunningham and Brandon Loizzo. The Lazio Pizza Bears bats were flat for the first five innings. They then put together a sixth inning rally. Paul Conte started the rally with a single, followed by singles by James Clark and Neil Bisciello which loaded the bases. Jonathan Nizzo recorded two RBI's and was a demon on the base path. The Mariners held on as long as they could, but a last inning rally by Williston Park gave them their second loss of the season (both from the same team).

Stephen Rampulla started the Mariners off with a lead off single to straight away center field. He would later score on a Chris Raulli single. But the bats got quiet after that until the fourth inning when Jason Fishman scored, after drawing a walk, off a Chris Jaroncyzk double. Kyle Reich then drove in Chris with a single.

John Beisner playing both second and third base, did an excellent job, working hard at keeping the ball in the infield. Joey Cantor, catching and playing the outfield, contributed to a terrific defensive effort.

Todd Mandl, the Mariners opener today, led the pitching staff with two scoreless innings and two K's. Joey Connelly pitched one inning and struck out the side in a controlled effort. Kyle Reich closed with a 4K performance. Good job all around.

The Mariners came out to a quick start with everybody hitting the ball solidly. Chris Raulli (3 for 3) and Kyle Reich (2 for 3/HR) led the way for the Mariners at the plate. Chris Fabrizzi, drawing two key walks, contributed to a five run second and fifth inning.

On the defensive side of the picture, Todd Mandl, (1 for 2) and Kyle Sherder (1 for 2) each made heads up plays in the field to squelch a late inning run at the lead.

The Mariners got great performances out of three of their pitchers this afternoon. Opener, Joey Birdsall (three K's), Joey Connelly filling in the middle innings with a five K performance and closer, Chris Raulli (three K's) all made it possible for the Mariners to be victorious. Great team effort fellas!!!

In an exciting first game of the season for the Williston Orthodontics Devil Rays, the boys put on a late rally and almost beat a determined Cantor Contracting team. Excellent work at the catcher's position by Chris Fiorenti and Greg Tloczkowski (two innings each). Chris Grammaticos had a walk and a run scored while Donnie Yaganeh and John Tedesco showed good hustle in the field. Courageous pitching debuts by Mark Rossi and John Cardyes. Manager Phil and coaches Steve and Ron especially want to compliment the boys on showing good maturity and concentration on the field and in the dugout during the game.
