Does that name sound familiar? In October for the past few years, there is a day called "Make a Difference Day." Communities from all over the Untied States plan events that have made a difference in their town or village, while involving large groups of residents in the town. I have thought about entering our village in the contest for the past two years, so we still have time for October.
To get our feet wet and to see what kind of response we would get, the Williston Park Village Beautification Committee is sponsoring "Little Make a Difference Day." A few Boy Scout Troops, Girl Scout Troops, Williston Park Little League, the American Legion, confirmation and youth groups have been contacted. These groups are to assemble behind the village hall at 10 a.m. on April 18, along with a chaperone or two from each group.
Each group will be sent to a designated area, for example, the Jack Zweibel Little Park, the storm basin on Willis, the gazebo and other areas along Willis and Hillside. They have been asked to come with rakes, shovels and brooms. If any resident would like to participate, we will be glad to have additional help. Any student who participates must be accompanied by a parent or chaperone for the group.
Keep that date and time in mind and let's see what a "Little Difference" we can make in our village as we clean up the village while promoting community spirit. If you have any suggestions for "Make a Difference Day" or would like to help organize a project, please call at 747-8219 or leave a message at the village hall, 746-2193.
