The Garden City Park Fire/Water Department mourns the March 1 death of Robert H. Banks, longtime Water and Fire Commissioner, who served as its secretary from 1982 to 1993 and a 25-year member of the Merillon Engine Company No. 2 of the Garden City Park Fire Department.

Garden City Park Water/Fire District Commissioner, Frank Boccio said, "Bob Banks' devotion to the Garden City Park Water/Fire district began well before his 1982 win for commissioner and continued until his death on March 1. His absence in the community will be highly felt and he will be truly missed by all who knew him."

Banks, a 50-year resident of Garden City Park is also a past president of the New Hyde Park Kiwanis Club and the past Lieutenant-Governor of the Long Island North Division of Kiwanis International. He was also a member of the Garden City Park V.F.W. Post No. 120.

Banks is survived by his wife, Mary and his sons Donald, Dennis and Bobby and five grandchildren.

Services were held at the New Hyde Park Funeral Home. Internment was at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury.
