Pantherettes Capture 1st Place at East Meadow Tournament
The Pantherettes started out early this cold Sunday moring, opening Nassau Community College's doors at 6:15 a.m. The time was not a factor for our girls, playing in the highly competitive premier bracket. They took this opportunity to display their fine soccer skills, quickness and teamwork. The girls finished with an impressive record of 4 wins, 1 loss and an undisputed claim on first place.
Game 1 -- Pantherettes 3 - East Meadow Diamonds 0
The opening game set the tone for the tournament. The girls came out and inspired all who watched. Terri Ann Hennessy's agility and speed quickly put the Pantherettes up 2 goals, in the opening minutes. Diana Ryan followed with a powerful shot past the goalie. Lindsey Martin was a forceful impact applying constant pressure on East Meadow's goalie. Justine Fodera was relentless in her pursuit of the ball, shutting down numerous attempts in defense. Jean Bridges chalked up her first shutout of the day rejecting many attempts by East Meadow to score.
Game 2 -- Pantherettes 3 - Brentwood 2
The girls continued to play in their fast and aggressive style. Lindsey Martin's quick reflexes and tenacity tallied her two goals followed by TerriAnn Hennessy with 1. Jessica Marra was an offensive catalyst, keeping Brentwood's goalie diving shot after shot. Parch Patel played stellar defense thwarting many of BW's drives and outmaneuvering their players.
Game 3 -- Pantherettes 2 - Plainedge 3
Tough loss for the girls. The Pantherettes fought hard after a lapse in defense. However, time ran out. TerriAnn's speed and offensive spinning drives were impressive, netting two goals. Danielle Adams was tireless in her two-way playing, mounting many attempts to score. Plainedge's goalie was constantly diving while the clock ran out. Lucky for Plainedge!
Game 4 -- Pantherettes 1 - Valley Stream 0
Lindsey Martin was unstoppable - up and down the gym floor, always gaining the advantage. Lindsey scored on her own throw in, so powerful the goalie couldn't hold onto the ball. Diana Ryan and Jessica Marra's forward attacks kept Valley Stream guessing which way would they shoot from next. Praettee Patel and Justine Fodera dominated the backfield. Jean Bridge's quick thinking and reflexes gained her second shutout of the day.
Game 5 -- Pantherettes 4 - Deer Park 2
The offensive team of Diana and TerriAnn were relentless in their attacks. Diana outplayed her opponents drilling in 1 goal and chipping in another over the goalie's head. TerriAnn weaved in and out between Valley Stream players driving in 1 goal and heading in her second off of Lindsey Martin's powerful throw-in. Lindsey and Danielle hustled up and down the floor setting up many more scoring opportunities. Always threatening to score and quick enough to retreat and gain possession of the ball again, Praettee was outstanding in defense in this game and throughout the tournament. Her brick wall defense was almost unpassable. Jean Bridge was super in goal the entire day rejecting shots and securing the first place win for the team. Great teamwork, girls!
