6th grade Boys
Notre Dame 37 - St. Vincents 26
The Notre Dame Bombers, already 3-0, came out with the fire still lit when they met St. Vincent's of Elmont and beat them by a score of 37 to 26.
The bombers were led by forward, Sammy Pizzichillo, who played hard on both ends of the floor and led his team with 11 points. Stephen Rampulla, followed with 9 and ever present Jason Fishman, off to a great start this year, had 7 points. Big Steve Gilroy, a presence in the middle all year long, had two points and several blocked shots.
But defense was the name of the game. Joe Valane and Chris Fabrizzi teamed up to shut down both forwards and guards as they tried to penetrate the Bombers 2-1-2 zone defense. Michael Depowski (4 points), was asked by coach Rampulla to "sit in the pocket" of St. Vincents leading scorer, and in his pocket he certainly was, holding the team's leading scorer, with the help of "The Cat," to 0 points in the second half.
Excellent effort from Abed Bhuyan, who ran the offense in the second and third quarters and Billy Finely and Vinnie Timpano who's defense was inspiring, 4-0, you gotta love it!
Dec. 19 -- Notre Dame 29 - St. Bonaface: 23
The Bombers were at it again when they took on St. Bonaface of Elmont, a team that they lost to in all matches last year as well as in the St. Bonaface yearly tournament. But not this time!
The scoring was led by point guard, Stephen Rampulla, who controlling the offense had 8 points and Jason Fishman, who found himself at the foul line 14 times because of his intense and inspiring play, had 7 points. Sammy P had 4, and Jimmy "The Cat" Catapano had 3 and ran the floor in the third quarter. Michael Depowski had 2 and Vinnie Timpano, hitting a key fade away jumper with only one minute left, had 4 points.
Chris Fabrizzi, making his presence known throughout the game, had two late, key rebounds in the close contest. But the play of the game belonged to Mike Lanza. Coming off the bench late in the fourth quarter he blocked a shot that would have put St. Bonnies within 2 points with half a minute left. And as if that wasn't enough, he hustled after the ball and pushed it forward to a waiting Sammy Pizzichillo who took the lay-up and put the bombers ahead by six and St. Bonaface out of time and energy. Big play indeed!
Be proud boys, hard work pays off!!!
