Sixth Grade

Nortre Dame 25 - St. Annes 24

What a way to start the 1997 basketball season. Coaches can't take many nailbiters like this one.

Notre Dame's sixth grade basketball team met a formidable St. Anne's team and beat them, with only seconds left, by a score of 25 to 24 to record their first win of this season.

Stephen Rampulla, running the floor for the Bombers, led the way with 12 points. Center Jason Fishman, although having a rough night at the foul line, contributed with seven and was inspiring on defense. Big Steve Gilroy, three points, made his presence known throughout the game. Sam Pizzichillo rounded out the scoring with three points.

Great work by Billy Finley, who had one assist and blocked two shots in this game where every shot was needed. Chris Fabrizzi, in his first game, was a force to be reckoned with on defense. Mike Depowski, the fire ball, made some nifty moves to get free and had two assists.

Notre Dame 30 - St. Aidans 10

Defense was the name of the game today as the Notre Dame Bombers beat an always tough St. Aidan's squad by a score of 30 to 10.

In the narrow St. Aidans gym, the Bombers decided to use a zone defense. The defense was led by Vinnie Timpano (two points) who demonstrated what collapsing on the opponent actually means. He was all over them like a glove to a hand. Joe Valane, clogging up the middle, helped to hold St. Aidan's scoreless until after the first half.

The offense was run tonight by Abed Bhuyan (four points) and Stephen Rampulla (four points) who found ever present Jason Fishman (six points) and Steve Gilroy (six points) in the middle. Sam Pizzichillo, making his own breaks by working hard, contributed with four points. Jimmy Catapano, in an inspiring performance on both offense and defense, completed the scoring with four points.

We're playing basketball now! Proud of you guys!

Holy Spirit 24 - Notre Dame 20

The Notre Dame Bulldogs fought hard but were outscored by a very good Holy Spirit team.

The star of the game was Pasquale Laucella, who out-hustled his opponents, grabbed important rebounds, and led the team in scoring with eight points. John Amico and Steven Bartoloni added four points each. John had beautiful drives to the basket on his shots. Steven worked the boards grabbing offensive rebounds and getting fouled on his shots and shooting 2 for 3 from the foul line. James Ort was all over the court. His hard work paid off and he made 3 or 4 from the foul line adding three points. Ricky Cinelli played great defense, stealing the ball many times and added one point. Anthony Regalbuto played great, getting shots off on the offensive end, getting fouled and just missing his foul shots. Steven Humburg and Brian Ernst hustled the entire game. They caused the Holy Spirit team to lose the ball on the press. Both Brian and Steven made great passes on offense. Stephen Diolallevi hustled all game grabbing important rebounds.
